I bet most of you don't even remember what it is.

Of course I do, it's a Hillman Husky, which I would have known even without looking at the photo info, A whole 1.4 litres of Rootes Group's finest parts-bin scavenging.

With mass over generalisations like that you will fit in very well here* We all agree with you about the veedubs though

Very true. Love the story that Ford took one apart and reckoned BMC was making a loss on every one sold! To be fair, I reckon they should have been making money on the Coopers (despite what Lord Stokes may have claimed) but otherwise, the Mini was a disaster and proof that while Issigonis was a great engineer, he was hopeless at making a car that a manufacturer could actually sell. It was lucky that he wasn't allowed to put IRS and a flat-four in the Minor or that would have been commercial suicide too!

Tis a Hillman Husky indeed, a sort of short wheelbase Hillman Minx estate car thingy. Actually I rather like 50s cars, with painted dashboards bench seats and column changes. They always seem a rather nice way of gently wafting along country lanes and I would sooner have one rather than something from the 70s. Also they are evocative of a more innocent age when a car with a name like this could be marketed (to very small people  ) with no sense of irony :)

Horrific.

I've seen one in the flesh, and it doesn't get any better. If ever a model deserved every example crushing, this is it.

So far in this one thread I've posted pics of a BMW X3, a Merc 307D, and now this. My computer will be divorcing me! I owe it a big treat. Therefore:

This absolutely will never fit the thread title, but for the sake of sanity it's worth posting.

I saw that new pointless Bini coupe on display in the shopping centre in Peterborough last week. Vile, vile, vile!

Sorry, even though this kind of thread is what a few of us are trying to avoid, I have to join in.

Rover 800 : For always being more disappointing than I want them to be. I just cannot get on with them.

MGB_Yorkshire_01.jpg

MGB / MGB GT / Sherpa 2dr : Very very pretty cars. Still dismal to drive and adored for some barking mad reason I will never understand.

Vectras : 'orrible. Sorry Billy. I've tried not to mention them for a while.

Howdi A3 and A4 : Overpriced, under talented, badly suspended tat.

volvo-480%20(7).jpg

Volvo 480 : Apologies to Chris and Jon, but there's absolutely nothing about these at all that I like. Nothing. Apart from the rear washer jet, and the fact that there's one less now and I sent it to its doom.

Oh, and top of the list, above all else, there's this.

I hate these things....

This one (to my shame) was mine, for about a week..

I hope that week went something like this "Hello is that Fat Bob's breakers yard? I've a Chrapla Neon to be collected... yes I can wait a week."

I think that was the case for the Mk1, but later ones made some cash for BL/Rover.

Ford Ka, the 'original' one. Incredibly ugly, rusty, nasty, rattly pile of unadulterated wank. Every single one of them should be crushed immediately.

ul be glad to know that the racers that do micro bangers have taken a shine to the ka . The "mini mondeo" as there hard as fuck for a small car

and of course, these. Overrated crap. Issigonis was mental.

As a commercial success you just cant knock these , loads of people love them , Chris Evans has just bought one FFS .

However as a car they are leaky , noisy , rusty , uncomfortable , engine is a boat anchor and they are just hateful, Had one once ,

never again .

This is why the Mini made my list, a miserable overrated piece of shit. The novelty wears off after about 5 miles.

Talk about rose tinted spectacles.

Yep. There are some automotive munters out there... the prime target for my vitriol at the moment is the fucking awful Citroen Xsara Picasso:

[shudder!] Hideous, bloated, nasty things that are owned and driven by repellent, despicable drones who don't aspire to driving anything that's wholesome and righteous in their pointless, empty lives.

Aye, the launch had passed me by tbh but I saw one in Durham Tesco car park on the weekend and very nearly did myself a harm walking into one of their bollock-height bollards. Honestly, what the fuck were they thinking? It looks like one of those kit pretend TTs with some mini-bling shit stuck on. I'm sure it's a nice place to sit, as long as you're less than 5' tall, and willing to confine yourself to the front with the seats right back.

Couldn't agree with you more! I can't decide do I despise this one more, or the Fiat Multipla!... What the Fuck they were thinking, seriously?!....

Totally agree. Most over rated pile of shite ever conceived. They weren't even a commercial success, BL lost money on every one they made for the first decade of production. Issigonis designed a driving position that was a sure fire recipe for a visit to the oesteopath, a distributor position which meant it wouldn't start if there was a little drizzle 400 miles away, a bonnet catch that stabbed you in the back of the neck when you were trying to dry out the aforementioned distributor, a window winder position that jabbed you in the knee. the legendary "roadholding" goes to pot if the raod surface isn't perfectly smooth, and they rust and leak in just about equal propotions..........

Some interesting choices been made. Regarding the Mini to me part of the charm is their crapness and ability to refuse to start if it's raining 117 miles away. In my (fairly limited) experience they're a great laugh to drive and fun to own.

I'll also stick my neck out and suggest the Shogun/Pajero is a far better car than a Range Rover: (much) better better built, well equipped (in Spanish 'Wanker' format) and nicer to drive. The real problem with them is their image as they certainly do seem to attract some chavs and pikeys.

Back to shite you can't stand though I'll nominate the Marina. Nasty to drive, badly built, unreliable effing rubbish.

Throw in the 2 litre Ital too. even one that's in tip-top A1 nick, mechanically and cosmetically, drives like it's been in a serious smash and not repaired properly. I think all the factory 2.0 Itals were autos, but a mate had a homebrew manual one years ago, and it was terrifying. It later gained a 2.0 Pinto, and some telescopic-dmaper trickery, but it was still dreadful.

About 20 years ago, another mate had what was known as a Super Beetle, upon which he spent a lot of money. It was still shit.

Better built, probably. Better to drive???? Billy, they need to up your medication again fella. Lots! That's like saying a Vectra is better than a..... oh, it's you. Bugger it.

I agree about the Marina though.. Dire things.
