Are LWB Fronterrors 7 seaters?

Posted

I fancy something mainstream but with a lusty V6, such as a Vectra GSI, Xantia, Laguna etc, and especially my favourite, the Peugeot 406 Coupe. However as I usually buy something quite different from what I'm looking for I am sure that when the time comes I will be getting something like this:

I don't know if they're giving these away, but there are a rake of them round here now - seen maybe a dozen in the past week - and I'm really, really starting to fancy one... I know we've all joked about them on here, but this is a thing of beauty:

One of those or a late Hyundai Sonata. Passed an 08-plate example the other day and shocked myself with how much I thought seriously about throwing money at one...

The K11 is getting replaced with one of the following (after I have repayed the Mother In Law £1500 and bought a new sofa from the DFS sale):-

Do it.

No matter how often people (mainly the Doc) tell me that one of these will be a world of pain I really really fany a SWB Fronterror.

My daily commute these days is such that I can afford the drop in MPG that will result from the trade from 998cc to 2200cc's!.

Mk1 Fiat Uno – Don't particularly care about the spec.

Jaguar X Type – I really like 'em. The firm I worked for had one which I managed to acquire the keys for a few times. Decent seats, quality stereo, nice dashboard and the 2.5 V6 wafts along very acceptably. A tad light on the steering for my own liking, but otherwise a very pleasant mile-muncher that I could happily live with.

Proton Pro Gen 2 (or however it's spelt) – I’ve always been drawn to these and I don’t know why. Probably a reliable modern hack with plenty of space and will be within an Autoshite budget within the next few years. I’ll have one in mint green, please.

1994 Mk5 Escort 1.8 Ghia Si – with the full leather option and air con, please. Bloody hard to find in that guise, though.

In a word, no.

The ride in a Fronterra is that bad that all seats in 'em are classed as "part time".

Sadly, this is accurate. I drove the very last Frontera built and while it's impressive in many ways (nice 2.2 DTi engine, spacious, HUGE door mirrors so you can actually see what's behind you) the ride on Fenland roads was hilariously bad. All the self-control of Amy Winehouse at a free bar.

In terms of ambitions rather than dreams, a Camry estate that’s on the road. Doesn’t look like the V6 I had planned is going to work out for the moment, but I’ve just seen a good 2.2 on AutoTrader in Leicester which – all being well – could be on my driveway by the end of this week.

Oddly, I’m finding the extra complexity and fuel costs of the V6 saloon aren’t adequately outweighed by its additional grunt and toy count, so I’m not at all worried about getting the smaller-engined model. And it’s cheaper...

That’s it for the real world. The Laurel does a great job as my ‘classic’, the Camry Sport is a fine daily that I can’t bring myself to sell, Mrs SL has a good family car in the Accord, we’re sorted. I’ll sell the V6 saloon if I can get sensible money for it, otherwise it’ll stay.

I could go out and buy a lovely Manta A with some money I’ve just been loaned, but I would be distinctly unpopular if I did that and not spend it on the work we’re having done on the house.

Just spotted that my list did NOT include a Range Rover. Which is what I've just bought. I'm fickle even with myself! (Mind you, I was also considering a Discovery, and it's identical under the skin!).

08? So, that would be... what? About a grand...?:mrgreen:

I am currently suffering a serious weapons-grade lob on for a Maserati Biturbo, even to the extent of psyching myself up to warn Ms_Bol that I may plunder £3k from our joint account to put towards a nice one. I have also ordered an interesting-looking book off Amazon about them. I'd really like an early 2-dr carburettor one most but could be persuaded into any really, price/condition/state of mental health on that particular day notwithstanding.

I want an MG ZT260. The thing was a folly of a dieing brand. An engine from an american police car in a hacked around Rover 75 shouldn't work but it makes me man moist.

There's one for sale on pistonheads for less than 4k that's making me have impure thoughts.

MrB, did you see that quattroporte I posted in the ebay tat thread for £2800?

Here it is.

At some point, a Lancia Fulvia. However, I would also like a French car with a dash-mounted gearchange that isn't a 2CV.

I really fancy some 4-door Jap obscurity with a twin cam 4. Like a 626 (that kited 4WS job on ebay would be supa), 16v Carina etc. Also really fancy a v6 Rover 800 fastack (prefacelift) but likelyhood is I'll just keep plouging money into my endless Silvia "project". Plus I couldn't stomach insurance on them 2 years ago and I've sinced had a fault claim and insurance seems to have gone all loopy.

I'm wondering what I could get to replace the Jaaaaag. Got the horn for a big classic estate of some sort. Must be rwd with a towbar and a decent amount of grunt.

A straight swap would be ideal.

Does such a thing exist?

Witter in Chester will lob a towbar on one of these for about £200.

The later ones are apparently more reliable, and might not have completely dissolved. Hang on, that's bollocks. If mine's anything to go by, Biturbos of any age will be held together by their paint.

At the moment, I'm happy with my lot.

Although an old geezer up the road appears to have gone into a home

& left his Camry in his garage.

The current Mrs barefoot says I can't go door knocking!

There is one of these local to me somewhere same colour. It might be a 4WD as opposed to 4WS mind. I'll try and have a poke about and see where it lives.

Meanwhile right up on my wanted/will own list is an Alfa 156 2.0 manual. Ideally in black with Momo leather.

Oh.... don't do things like that to me when there is a chance I might be passing through Hertfordshire soon with an empty recovery truck and a spare £900. I loved my ghia 4x4. Fastest van I ever had! It's even the same colour.
