OMG a proper thread! My newest shite purchase

I popped out to a car show this morning in Clacton, It was a good show with plenty of shite to oggle over (Mint Renault 15! ) anyway i saw this mint looking Mk3 Escort in the distance that was for sale, I worked my way over there whist chatting to BMC Dan of this parish, This Escort had no price, just this sign saying offers accepted, So i started chatting to he owner, I asked how mach it was, "I'm hoping to get about £500 for it" he said!, I didn't even bother haggling!, I just bought it there and then :D

It's a 1984 Escort 1.3 L with only 43000 miles on the clock, Never been welded, it is as clean as a whisle, Comes from Candor Motors in Colchester from new, the same garage my dad used to buy his cars from!, It's got the CVH engine with the 4 Spd gear box, it's so quiet, no rattles and knocks at all, MOT until October and taxed until the end of September.

Sadly this means the Mk4 will have to go which i am gutted about it is such a nice car but i can't afford to have two of them about, I'll do an advert for it at some point.

I kid you not, it's better! I really thought the bloke was going to say £1500, when he said £500 i had to have it!, I'm just gutted about selling the blue one after promising the lady that we will look after it.

Hopefully i will find someone who will look after it as well as we both have.

Thats beautiful, really like this model of Escort, good one.

Great photographs too.

Lovely! Looks like a bargain - is that dashboard completely uncracked?

Posted

That is magnificent!!! £500! Bloody hell.

I love these, not least because my grandad had a Coral Beige 1100. Best looking Escorts, IMO.

Posted

Fucking hell, that has got to be the bargain of the year!

If I had something like that I'd be half tempted to squirrel it away for a few years and watch as extra zeros are added to its value when OMG OSF tax hits the Mk3 in earnest. It'd be a shame to do that though as a nice low mileage Mk3 is actually a thoroughly pleasant thing to drive. GR17 purchasing skillz Trig.

Hoots mon!

I reckon if you fell in a bucket of manure you'd come out smelling of roses, you have a knack of procuring some bloody class cars and no mistaking. As you said for that sort of money it's not even worth trying to haggle, it's an absolute beauty.

Completely!, My mate who was with me also has a Mk3, he said if i didn't buy he would have it!, His dashboard is totally knackered from the sun.

Jeez, Great work Trig.

That looks properly nice.

Posted

well done!, looked snazzy when I saw it driving through Clacton, admittedly i'd presumed it was just on the way back from Morrisons and not the classic car show :D

Hard plastic dash in this model Rich, they don't crack anyway.....it's only the 'soft touch' ones in GL, Ghia, XR & RS ones that cracked.

Already said what a fantastic buy that is over on FB and how jealous I am!!

Hopefully one day we will be able to hook up at a show as it would be cool to re-create some Ford brochure shots with mine as well.....you know, putting suitcases in the boot and such like!

Superb find! You are the type of fella that can fall into a bucket of thumbs and come up sucking on a tit!

I suppose these are not yet of a "classic" status so dont fetch top money.

Thats almost POV spec Trigger, that will earn you some serious Brownie points, Sir.

Top work.

1985 called, etc.

That's outstanding, Trig - good work 8)

Does it need a new boot carpet though?

I noticed that. It does look like its either had a spillage or has a slight leak, although I don't know where these leak from at the back as to whether its a viable place for a leak? But its not unlikely to be a problem or owt is it judging by the condition of the rest of the car. That really is a good buy.

Question is though, will it clash with the Opel?

Footwell speaker pods. Cool. Must have had a stereo from new! Flash bastards!

Nice that.

Very smart, well done. Though obviously it's a shame the Mk4 is going to have to be moved on. With the new MoT and work you've done I think you should easily clear the purchase costs of this new one, and hopefully you've done enough to raise it into the 'classic' market and find a good buyer for it rather than someone who just wants a cheap hack.

Good to see the Candor sticker as well. My dad's Mk4 Cortina came from there, and seeing the Essex reg'n on the Capri Mk2 makes me wonder if that did too.

Posted

Thanks Nigel, i do genuinely feel bad about the Mk4 but like i say hopefully a enthusiast will buy it, i might try it at £795 as i need to get £600 for it.

I saw the stain as well Tayne, I just looks like spilled milk, the rest off the boot floor is mint as well so Im sure it doesn't leak.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.

That is bloody lovely Trig - top save!

Shame the Mk4 has to go now though... how about a backwards advert sequence before it does?

That is absolutely stunning, and so very right on so many levels. Loving the original blue cap Lucas distributor and the VV carb. I'm guessing it's Radiant red?

Posted

That is amazing. Even with a childhood full of my dad slagging off his Mk3 Escort long after he sold it that is a great looking car. The Mk3s just look right, especially in that condition.

Posted

Crikey! That engine bay's so clean you could eat your dinner off it! Actually, that would be a shame...HP sauce stains would ruin it.

Fantastic buy, well done.

Posted

For 500 notes, that's lovely! All credit to the seller for taking the time to present it in such spotless condition.

Deffo get rid of the towbar...and I'd be wanting to bin that nasty front number plate aswell.

Posted

I'd keep the twobar, GR8 4 taking old giffers shins out at car shows.

Anyhoo, Trigger totally useless but i have a set of 4 escort 3 half carpet waffle mats for one. Except there in blue. Gratis to anyone who wants them.

Posted

That stereo looks far too fancy for me Andrew!, It's got a old Pioneer on fitted at the moment but I'll be putting the CD player from the MK4 into this for now, I've just been down Tesco's in it and i still can't get over how nice it is too drive, Even came with 1/2 a tank of petrol!.

Do these early CVH's need a lead additive or can they run on unleaded?< Our Mk4 is lead free but I'm not sure if this one is?.

Rev - I think the colour is Sunburst Red, Radiant didn't come out until later on, after Rosso Red.
