new headlights (I'm assuming the yellow ones will have to go?)

I don't think yellow headlights are illegal over here, are they?

Delightful! Look forward to seeing more photos and reading the full roadtrip story.

I'm not sure, but the beam pattern will be wrong and requiring correction via RHD units?

Ah, foot operated... I think I needed that foot for pumping the leaky clutch all the time, so I never got round to using the washy thing.

That looks well nice. How will it fair with the british winters? Will it be garaged?

Yellow lights are legal. Bit of tape on the lights will be sufficient for an MOT. i usually do this at the MoT -using his beam pattern to work out what needs blanking. However -most markings on the lense are pretty accurate.

What he says, though I've found yellow lights to be utterly crap here in the depths of Wales of a night! Have returned to white just until it gets lighter in the evenings. I miss the yellow signs/cats eyes!

Well done, that looks lovely.

S'pose once I get it MOT'd in the UK I'll need a new speedo (with mph on it)

You shouldn't need a mph speedo, my 14 passed with the KMH speedo in situ.

If they do kick off about the speedo, you could always just put some stickers on for say 30,40,50,60 mph. Our H van had this. Very useful too!

Don't think the speedo is a tested item at the MOT. The lights would be the only thing that would get thrown up I think but then blanking the wrong parts of the dipped beam would solve that.

Posted

I was told by the guy who MOT's my cars that as long as the speedo works they are not interested in whether it is in KMH or MPH!

Although, I believe the police can actually 'do you' for not having an MPH speedo if they pulled you over, an event unlikely in an old French car I would imagine. They certainly don't seem to pay me any attention anyway!

Looks great! Well done!

Speedos not looked at on MOT as far as I know. Yeah they might pull you up on the yellow lights though.

EDIT: LOL at the second to last sentance I wrote!

What a beauty, looks to be in very fine shape for a 43 year old bit of euro tin. 8)

Excellent work!

The lights won't be a problem being yellow, but as NB says they'll need a bit of tape.

Speedo in KM isn't a problem either.

That looks like it'll piss its way through an MOT.

looks a bonnie looking motor, cant recall ever seeing an estate version before. Good luck with the re patriation and look forward to lots more pics..

Top Johnny!!!

Just wonderful!

I don't think the speedo is a problem - they're only there to help you obey the speed limits. They're not tested on an MOT.

Most old Renners have a 'pimple and slot' arrangement on the headlamp bulb and holder that allows you to rotate the bulbs a few degrees to the left for UK roads. Does the Simca have something similar perhaps?

Early R16s had the foot operated washer too.

A great buy indeed. Most of us are just dreaming of something like that; one or two like you are living it. Enjoy it :)

looks fantastic...

There was an estate one in the same colour at the Sandbach show a couple of years back....I'll look out the piccys.

Nice car! Nice colour! C'est une Affaire!

I'm also partial to that colour on the 1501 Break that does the rounds in the North West. This was at Tatton :

Cheers for your comments folks.

Just got to press on anf get her MOT'd and registered in the UK. The only main thing that is concerning me now is that for the registration document I need loads of info from the Certificate of Conformity. I don't posses this document. Reading on the internet, this is available from the Manufacturer, which in my case is long gone!! Any ideas how I can obtain this/get round this???

Posted

If you haven't already, join the club. Very helpful folk in my experience. They might be able to provide the info.

Dont worry -its 'pre conformity' Just fill in all you can -all that EC numbers stuff doesnt apply.

When I registered the 93 Gaz- I hadnt a clue on most of it, but I sent it in with all I had -and they were happy.

iIn the very small print will be the need to include your Driving Licence with the paperwork -for ID purposes. They seem far more interested in that than Conformity issues.
