I don't think I've introduced this baby to you lot yet:

25k from new, employee bought from Austin Rover!

It is stunning, tiny giffer damage to OSR wheel arch and the headlining pinned but other than that truly as good as it looks in the photos, not keeping it for long though!

Posted

Ah yes, the headlining pins. The only way to sort that out properly is to replace the fabric and use some expensive high temperature fabric glue, I got both from the same seller on ebay.

Shame you're not keeping it, could make a show car with a bit of work I reckon. That Pirelli P4 tyre in the boot is almost certainly the original - mine has one of those as the spare but it's knackered.

That is attractive, beautiful, pretty, handsome, lovely, stunning, striking, arresting, gorgeous, prepossessing, fetching, captivating, bewitching, beguiling, engaging, charming, enchanting, appealing, delightful; sexy, seductive, alluring, tantalizing, irresistible, ravishing, desirable; Scottish bonny; informal hot, easy on the eye, drop-dead gorgeous, cute, foxy, bodacious; literary beauteous; archaic comely, fair.

And to add one myself, bootylicious.

Sweet as, lots of WANT! going on there.

Hope it sees you many smiles for many miles.

Great! I like the white seats. Not enough cars have white seats.

Some of the Mk2 Ashtray 'special editions' had white seats. Valeter's nightmare. I should know, I still wake up screaming nearly 20 years later.

Still, that is one amazing Maestro. I take it you have an offer on it, if it's not going to hang around long?

Looks pretty classy. Colour suits it.

From the days when a manufacturer could set the posh car aside with some dark tinted glass and chrome trim (eg. Ghia versions) and it really looked like it. Difficult to tell nowadays.

1.6?, I take it, being the plush model. That is nice.

I once picked up a rental Maestro 1.3, had to pop home, turned the engine off, locked the car, went into the house, unlocked the car and the engine was still running on. Happy memories.

Does look good.

Did it cost loads?

It was a bargain of course but as usual no MOT or tax!

Wow, that's a very nice Maestro - I really do like that one.

That Mayfair looks visually pretty much like the Vanden Plas model to me, with its wood (burr walnut effect?) trim & electric front windows. It had cheaper looking silver wheel trims as well.

My sister had a 1987 E reg 1.6 Mayfair in the early 1990s but that one didn't have the burr walnut woodwork or electric windows. It had the 3 spoke steering wheel though.

(At the same time, my parents had an early MG Maestro 1600 R-series engine)

Bloody hell that's nice. Will it want much for the test?

Posted

To be honest I doubt it will need anything, it's just a matter of getting around to it!

Even I like that, what a delicious find, well done.

That looks scrummy. Im collecting a rust free example this weekend. Hope it is really is rust free!

is that the beige one? I was soooo tempted by that but I was being a tightwad!

 I'm with you on that list of suitably synonymous adjectives, Lt. Commander!

Err, no. Unfortunately that turned out to be a bit rotten and filler laden. Need any bits?

The one im getting is the one I should have bought to start with.

Posted

Oh really? It looked almost quit peachy! Did you drag it back to find out?

Tell us about the other one then!

Posted

It did look good, even looked good when I collected it from Poole. The car wasnt mis-described or anything, it was my fault for poking too much!

The sills have been replaced in the distant past with an almost invisible repair, except the old sills are still behind the new ones, festering away. The new ones also needed a bit of repairing at the ends- after id poked them into submission of course. The rear arches appeared very solid, but are infact full of filler, as are the front arches. The clincher is all the corrosion right at the top of the rear inner wings, above the wheels. The area is double skinned so repair isnt that simple. The metal around the filler pipe is rotted too. Its all just too much to do. Much good material has been salvaged and passed onto other Maestroists already, so its not a total waste. I should hopefully make my money back too!

The once im collecting this weekend is a D reg HL with 29k on the clock. Its spend much of its life off the road and apart from a corroded bootlid (good replacement is included) the bodywork is pretty much rust/welding free. The arches, sills and underside are all mint. The 1600 petrol engine kept killing headgaskets so its been converted to diesel using a 65k odd mile donor. Fingers crossed its not a snotter!

Posted

That is a massive shame but at least you can get some good out of it, out of interest how much did you pay for it? I went as far as to ask to borrow trade plates to fetch it but was put off believe it or not, by the headlining!

Is the other Maestro in Gloucestershire? If so I have seen the photos and met the seller, I bought a 406 coupe off him. A great fella and a good looking and geniune car!

Was that advertised on RR a while back? Looks good if so. Perkins FTW.

Thats right, Its near Gloucester and was punted on RR for a while. Im in the area on Saturday for some aero related antics so im grabbing it while im there. The guy had tried selling it for ages and was going to weigh it in.

I paid £150 for the Beige Maestro, so pretty much its scrap value. The headlining was hanging out but im sure could have been glued back up again. Its frigging annoying having that thing hanging over your head all the time- and ive only driven it in and out of the garage!
