DirtyDaily Adventures - living with an R8

An R8 on Autoshite that isn't a Rover.

What a time to be alive.

Best of luck with it! With the engine where it is, I assume its the rear bumper that will have to come off every week?

Like the front bumper on the forum A8.

We don't talk about the front bumper on the forum A8.

I also own the A8 so i hope the A8 takes on all bumper removing jobs.

It's probably only a matter of weeks before I have to take the bumper off my AS8 so not having to do it on the forum A8 while I had it only delayed the inevitable. I think the rear bumper on the R8 is fairly easy though.

Well, it was great having you on here. Will look for your thread on Pistonheads. 😂

I think with the R8, one simply drives too fast over a speed bump and the car does the rest for you.  Very easy job.

In all seriousness, that looks fab!  A real supercar (presumably) for about the cost of an Audi TT.  Brave thing to do, but hoping it brings many joyous miles' driving.  Some people round my way seem to use them as everyday cars, so it should be fine*.

So pickup is tomorrow around 5pm.
The nerves are starting to really kick in. As you can imagine the research is doing me no favours.
Will it need a clutch?
What's brake disc life like?
Will the tyres need doing?
Are the ball joints needing to be done? (Fairly big issue weirdly due to Audi making them NLA)
Are the mag ride shocks good?

If the answer to all the above is they need replacing then the remedial costs would be in the region of £10k+ and that'd be sorting some of it "cheaply". If you was to take to REP they'd probably ask for double.

I need to see the car and put some of these fears to bed. I'll be honest, the big one is what's the clutch going to be like. They're very strong clutches but "supercars" do use their clutches a lot so we shall see. Should I of viewed the car and answered all of these prior? Well yeah, foolishly I didn't due to time constraints but we are where we are.

I don't believe in a God but I'm praying.

My biggest concern is that with how big balls you obviously have will you fit in it?

(for that pun to work it needs to be read in *Yorkshire)

My BiL unit neighbour does a lot of these and has many bits, of course you won’t need anything.

Well done on meeting the dream. Wow would love one.

Because we are car people there are a few of us on here who have stretched for "out of reach cars" and few regret having done it.

I hope very much you enjoy it.

I think there would be more regret in NOT buying your dream car. 'Don't regret the things you did, rather the things you didn't do'  said someone once. YOLO and all that!

Wow, I thought I was brave buying a £6K 50yr old american car blind!

Well done that man, living the dream etc...  Looking forward to following this one.

I’ve driven both an manual and an auto (flappy paddle) R8, albeit not very far, but found the clutch to be very heavy compared to “ordinary” cars, but probably par for the course. Also not much room in the footwell for my size 13s.

Much preferred the auto.

(This comment somehow got me banned from Pistonheads. Someone else reckoned the clutch was fine and his wife drove it daily , so I was a liar? Total wankers).

Amazing. At that money you're much less likely to lose.

One presumes a bit of heat will see to those terrible seat logos and the rear spoiler.

Seat logos i agree would be good to lose. The carbon spoiler i must admit wasn't to my taste but I will see what it's like in person. I think I'd rather have it and not lose paint though If that's what it comes down to

Ooh, this is exciting!

I'd be interested in how the overall experience goes with Collecting Cars. I take it you just meet the seller as if it was a normal transaction?

Correct, they've given me a couple of calls throughout the process. Before bidding and after to make sure i was happy with everything and I knew what to do etc. Seemed a nice chap on the phone. Other than that though I think their involvement is relatively minor.
Ultimately their service is to weed out time wasters through their bidding process and also to make sure the car is as described. That's why I was a little more comfortable bidding blind than if it was on ebay for example.

Small calamity. Train to MK slightly delayed and meant I missed my train to Bletchley. In Taxi now to make the train to Bedford.

Hates trains.

Checked.
Driven.
It's amazing.

Just have an issue with the bank now. They're wondering why I am sending someone all of my money.
