DSdriver Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Surprised @LightBulbFun hasn't bollocked you for trashing the lamppost 🤪 Hope you heal up quickly, as mentioned above back problems can take a few days to make themselves apparent but then last a lifetime. Noel Tidybeard 1

You'd press the throttle and nothing would happen and then it would lurch and accelerate sharply. Nearly hit the head basketball coach's beloved Saab 😳 Glad you're OK though. That sounds quite feasible with the reversing into the lamppost.Phoned the recovery place where it was taken and they say it's going to be examined by the Police.Surprised they haven't been in touch yet.Haven't even asked to see my driving licence.Technically I suppose the first incident would be hit and run. Dobloseven Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Putting it all into context, something came up about a driver of an electric Jaguar which went in the wrong direction, pushing a parked van into a young boy who was putting his football boots on behind his parents car, killing him.I'm feeling bad enough, but HTF do you live with that? eddyramrod, Rust Collector, MrGTI6 and 1 other 4

Not now, obviously, but I know there's favourites. We don't seem to have anything like that round our way so no idea.
motorpunk Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Sorry to hear this, metal is just metal, let the insurers handle things while you get better. Glad you’re not too badly hurt. Pressed both pedals with both feet, perhaps? Take it easy (and if you come to my house again please park up the street ) Dobloseven, Jim Bell, somewhatfoolish and 3 others 6
Jikovron Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Bloody ell, glad to read youre OK, the initial carnage factor will blow over and hopefully back to normal business soon ! Dobloseven 1
mercedade Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Holy fucking shit. Glad an injury-free(ish) experience Dobloseven 1
HMC Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I once had a w123 300d do this on an autobahn as the organ type floor hinged pedal got stuck on the metal lever underneath. Hell was not unleashed as the car had a meek 88bhp new. I shit my pants nevertheless and created a massive black cloud of soot over Dortmund, and shut the engine down whilst expecting some environmental protesters to glue themselves to the bonnet. Well, in the case you mention, the driver was never charged as they died shortly after. The news article I read didn't specify how they died....
Dobloseven Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 The death toll rises!MrsDs insurers have said they're going to write off the Korando Haven't offered a sum yet.Told them we want a price to keep it as well as the damage is just a cracked bumper and tail light. Will get some photos.Trouble is the clutch is completely failed.Had some prices, both for parts and complete job so will need to do some maths.Need to go outside and have a good look, but not very mobile at the moment. Hopefully the payout with cover the cost of a new clutch and rear light. Then you can just ignore the cracked bumper and call it a win.

Metal Guru Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Can you supply a link when it goes on You Tube? Seriously though, glad no one was hurt.
Dobloseven Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Apparently Korando is a Cat N.Offered £3732.Less £300 excess, which she should get back,as not her fault.Salvage £672.So £2760/£3060.Son can get s/h bumper and light in correct colour for £300.Clutch guy says he can do it for £1800.Say £100 to get it transported to his premises. What do you guys reckon? Stanky Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I'd go for it if it was me - You get a new bumper, light and clutch and pocket £500 too if my maths is correct eddyramrod and mercedade 2
NorthernMonkey Posted January 9 Posted January 9 £1800 for a clutch?? That seems a bit ott… sporty-shite, Stinkwheel, CGSB and 2 others 3 2

Made my above reply before reading this one. If it's a fair price then still jeeez, but I guess it gets the job done and everything else and you keep a car you know and not be out of pocket then 👌 eddyramrod 1

Dobloseven Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Well I've ordered the bumper and light for the Korando and got the clutch place on the case,Am quite surprised by the valuation.Thought it'd be a lot less. Jim Bell, eddyramrod, beko1987 and 1 other 4

Light is 2 screws and has to be removed to change bulbs.Bumper shouldn't be too bad.Needs to be able to be removed for towbar fitting. The one on the Rexton had about seven screws holding it Fingers crossed! eddyramrod, Wibble and Jim Bell 3
Dobloseven Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 All a bit odd.Phoned the recovery place up about disposal of BMW.Apparently the Police have cancelled their examination of it and it's now incurring storage charges.Because it's a low value vehicle, and there's an excess, son isn't claiming for it being written off.Nor does he need a courtesy car as he's abroad and got the Jaguar anyway, and policy would be cancelled as well.Obviously I'm making sure he doesn't end up out of pocket.Being collected tomorrow by local car breakers who'll give us 100 quid apparently. Not had any contact whatsoever with Police and no one has even asked to see my driving licence.Strange.All the affected neighbours seem ok with me and say not to feel bad about what happened.Slowly getting back to normal but certainly made me think how fragile life is. Wibble, dome, myglaren and 3 others 6
Dobloseven Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Got the body repairs done on the Korando.Bumper just clips and self tappers.Only problem, the old bumper had four aftermarket parking sensors. The replacement had holes for three factory ones. The holes needed enlarging for the aftermarket ones. One of the four hadn't been working according to MrsD,so we've fitted the three good ones.Just waiting to get the clutch done.Guy is waiting for the DMF,all the other parts have arrived. When it comes, I'll get it transported to him. It's not far.Total spend so far,£380.
