Although mrsstinkwheel hasn’t decided what to do with the maestro mot fail yet she still does need transport, so we will go view something this morning and possibly do a buy. Anyone willing/care to do any guesses?

MG ZR

After the maestro, I can see why that would be a good call

Another Maestro?

Or perhaps something else from the BLARG stable?

I’m thinking something like a Toyota Corolla… one of the mid-late 90s ones

Possibly?  Hah, you big liar, you've already decided!  See you in a couple of hours, there is fuel in the Jag...

N/A Diesel?

Nice purchase, 306's are good cars. All of the ones I've had drove really well. Didn't matter on what engine was in it.

Would recommend giving the back wheel arch tubs a through clean and heavy dose of rust protection. Also keep an eye out for any peeling undercoating, holds the crap and moisture like nothing else.

Do these have a habit of rotting high up in the rear pillar?

Crap thrown up from the rear wheels and left to fester?

Other than that, peak car IMO.

It’s a 1.4i petrol.
Agree about the rustproofing, it’s on the list already.
The funny thing is, it’s SO clean underneath, there is no lifting under seal. I’ll get pics at some point

They do, mainly the very late ones I believe, from what I can see, there is no rust. Fingers and eyes firmly crossed

Even better - quieter and still not bad on fuel. That will go on forever if you want it to.

Hope so, that’s kind of the plan

Get the wheel arch cover out from the NS in the boot.  Now.

Before you strap anyone in in the back.

Ok, so it is probably obvious it’s the 306

it’s so base it doesn’t even have a rev counter

in fact, it’s so base it doesn’t even have a rear wiper

And look at how minty the interior is

Full on old giffer spec, who probably died as it sat about 4 years before being sold to a young lad who apparently decided it was not  ‘street cred’ enough I’m guessing.

it is ‘really’ clean, so clean I’m thinking of getting the waxoyl out and covering the underside. New cambelt and water pump kit on the way. It’s already got new budget tyres all round and a new cat + mid exhaust.
in comparison to the maestro it’s like a new car 🤣

I had a girlfriend who had one of these in appliance white, 1.4 bASe like yours.

They are really good cars, 1.4 is plenty and like most PSA cars of that era they just get faster/looser with use.

Yep I imagine it's like a spaceship compared to the Maestro.

Nice buy!

If its the same 1.4i pez my 1997 zx's had its a lovely engine, possibly more so in the 306 as it looks a smaller/lighter car?

Needs all the rev range using but it shifts! Could sit mine at 85mph in relative comfort, but it didn't have much more in it and the brakes and steering went a bit iffy at those speeds 😂

I did the belts, water pump, tensioners/pulleys etc and adjusted the tappets on my last one and it sounded like a sewing machine 👌 Really smooth and quiet

Lovely looking car, especially in that colour.  Really suits it.  Well bought

I recall it was something odd like they didn't fit a near side rear arch liner at all until the phase 3 306. Thus the rust.

Still, 306s are ace cars. In 2010-2014 I had an XUD turbo followed by an HDi estate. I tweaked both of them and drove them like I stole them. Such a lovely combination of squishy ride and fun handling, especially the lift off oversteer.

I’m sure the other half will get used to it, I really like it, it’s that rare thing of just being an car

That is ace.

I assume it at least has power steering...?

Power steering, yes

no abs (I’m fairly sure no abs, might have to check that)

keep fit windows, no central locking,

but oddly, electric sunroof

Typically French, has to be good at being able to do 80mph (130ish kph?) on the autoroute all day and not use too much fuel in the process, the young French person had to be able to afford cheese and wine as well

Miss_Outlaw had one of these, same colour, purchased from @sporty-shitequality used vehicles ltd.

Proper thing. Can't remember why she got rid of it, but it was replaced by a Fiesta, from the same trusted vendor!
