When I started driving even if you were selling a snotter 12 months ticket was a massive plus and if there were less than  six months left it was reflected in the price ( remember "Short MOT") or you put it in for a new ticket.

Looking at cars now lots of private sellers asking high four/five figures for their cars with a couple of months MOT.

For God's sake if you want good money for your motor and it's only got six weeks of MOT left get another. Or maybe you know it won't pass? Or am I being unreasonable?

I've noticed the same thing. Don't know why it's more common now. Some have no MoT at all but you wouldn't guess it looking at the asking price!

Tbh, if I’m ever selling a car I always put a new MOT on it first.
On anything used a new MOT is a big plus point for any prospective buyers but it also looks good, like the seller has faith in it to pass its test.
If there's less than 6 months test on it, it looks suspicious to me. Like there’s a reason it’s being sold and/or a reason why the seller doesn’t want to put a new test on it.

Even more suspicious is when the seller says "will fly through another".  They're mad if they think people won't question why they haven't put a further 12 months ticket on it. Would you want to buy a car from anybody that thick?

Mot expires in three months? V5 changed in the last 3 weeks? Big pass From me

A change in V5 isn't the same as a keeper change though. All my cars will show this after removing the vanity plate prior to sale. I think there's a free site which includes this in a car check 👍

How long does it take to get a test appointment? I noticed someone in the news thread who bought a car but has to wait until January to get it tested. If a seller can't get a test, but really needs to sell, there's no alternative but to sell without a new test.

My better half called the local garage/test centre last wednesday, booked in for thursday this week. Not all places have long lead times it would appear

I phoned our regular place last Saturday morning and given a choice of slots for Monday and Tuesday.

That is definitely true of gumtree as the last 4 motors I've sold I put fresh mot on them plus 3 of them had a full set of new dunlop rings,    after failing to sell here other than being pissed around they all sold within the week after listing on gt.

My local garage is fully booked up with mots for weeks too.

I've always managed to get one within 48 hours.

Just checked appointments on the Halfords Autocentre website - there's a broad range of timeslots available tomorrow at the local branch, and every day this week including Saturday.

My local place has always got me in within 2 weeks of me phoning for an appointment.

Most of that is probably because I phone on day 30 before it's due and tell him to give me a time that suits him, yet to test phoning and asking for one ASAP 🤣

A new ticket can be a dodgy one.

Especially on a Rexton.

'For sale, short MoT, good condition. Bought it as a replacement car while mine was off the road.' Yeah, right. Dash lit up like a Christmas tree, needs brakes, tyres and the suspension is fucked, oh, and it smokes like Dot Cotton. 😂
