I thought about this car today, wife was complaining that kids leaving the boot open was making the car cold and it was on the tip of my tongue to say 'we should have got an XM with the internal rear glass not this Chinese shit'.

The internal rear glass is absolutely superb!

Sorry this thread is being a lot more boring than expected

but it's actually being a very reliable mode of transport

Do they need you to provide the original dealer logo ?

Yes they do, somehow managed to find it on a quick google search which surprised me

Almost 2.5 months into ownership

i believe this is the most boring XM thread ever

nothing to really report, boost gauge isn't working correctly

passenger side electric window needs some lubricant

I suppose the main thing to keep an eye on I suspect is the battery, it cranks slower than I'd like but has never failed to start, could be the starter motor but I can't see that being overly expensive and they're not hard to change on this engine

doesn't like cold starts, it fires up quick enough but it misfires and smokes like a goodun for a bit, it will cut out unless you hold the throttle at 1,200 rpm

spheres are quite flat, getting that done in the coming weeks, ride has been improved however by reducing the tyre pressures from 3.2 bar to the correct 2.2 for the front and 1.9 for the rear

otherwise it's being a cracking car, had a lot of use this week but I've done 500 miles since I refuelled and I've still apparently got 1/4 tank left

It's nice when their being all boring and reliable. Treasure these moments!

If it boosts fine without the guage working I'd be inclined to put that on the ignore list/check for obvious broken vac lines

It'll be revealing to hear what it's like with functioning spheres. I had the opportunity to ride in an XM about 10 yrs ago, I thought it better than a DS.

Apologies if already covered, I would check out the battery/starter earths for the slow turnover -  all of my BXs have had this and it was due to corroded earths, interestingly the MK2s just cleaned up nicely but the MK1s needed new sad cables.

Easy to test the battery with a multimeter, or even easier with a battery tester! I love playing with mine 😁

Obligatory glow plug comment, may also be affected by earths or one or two might be knackered 👍

Glad it's generally behaving though, sounds like a good'un!

If it starts but then falters and is accompanied by puff of white/grey smoke I'd be looking for an air leak in the fuel line. Try hand priming it one morning before starting which will help confirm or rule out the theory

an absolutely peach of a car!

690 miles to the last tank of diesel, very pleased with that

needs a good wash to get all the salt etc off but it’s been fantastic so far

Citroen really must be up there for the best wheel trim designs, eh?

Yes I’d say so

including the little door to access the tyre valves

Giving me the horn that!! (Now I want one in estate flavour) 😫

Looks a nice clean example, and a cracking colour too.

fixed the boost guage today, was quite simple really

intercooler pipe beside the batery had become slightly detached, just enough to cause issues

also should explain the oil leak i seem to be having at the minute, hopefully it should be all sorted now as i can't see anything leaking on the acgtual engine and some oil had come out of the degtached pipe

also happened to note it seemed to have just popped off, so loosened the clamp, wedged it in good and proper and tightened it up

all seems fine, it is vastly quicker and sounds a lot healthier now too! can actually hear the turbo doing it's job

so yes, pleased that one proved to be an easy fix

otherwise all is going well stil, and really enjoying the car!

No real update, could use a new battery

right fuelling issue

it primes up and then starts fine, only the first start of the day causes issues really and I’d definitely say air is getting into the fuel system somewhere

I have noticed the hand primer is new, now I had issues with my last XM when I piped it incorrectly

does this look alright to you lot?

absolutely no running issues once it’s going

anyway

driving it down to Westroen tomorrow for 7 new spheres, really looking forward to it!
longest journey I’ll have done in the car by an absolute mile

well 400 miles covered today

furthest I’ve ever driven this car, absolutely no issues at all which is pleasing!

All 7 spheres now replaced

both centre spheres were full of oil, no gas at all

corner spheres were between 0 and 10 PSI

accumulator was about dead too

suffice to say, 7 brand new spheres have completely transformed the car, it actually has suspension now, stays up for longer and just feels fantastic

it has float!

Nice! Is it any better on the slow speed fucked road surface type of bumps? That's where I felt mine always got let down but equally it kind of made sense why it did it and couldn't keep up.

Where you'll notice it now is high speed cross country shit where the car stays dead flat at insane speeds! And speed humps at 50

Posted

mine isn't great on the fucked road surfaces, I asked on the XM forum and consensus from those who know suggest its normal

Posted

Yeah, it was the slow speed crap road surface ride that was a little less isolated than I would have wished on mine. At higher speeds however the float was definitely there, without the body roll you'd expect in fast corners. That's what made it feel special.

DO NOT USE JUBILEE CLIPS ON A DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM!

they do not clamp "round" so can/will let air in- go look up "dr diesel" problem pages from diesel car mag fron the '90s

They’re never the best on low speed sharp bumps it’s where they get caught out, that’s normal for a hydro Citroen

All I’ll say is it’s now absolutely phenomenal

@beko1987

Yea I already told him off for that on the xm fb group 😂 Malaysian built vacuum indeed 😡

Hoover made cylinders in Dijon during the 90s, you need one of those @maxxo
