Go big or go home - high risk shite lined up

So, I've got a buyer sorted for my XC70. A nice American chap who's moved to Glasgow and had to sell his XC70 when he did. He's a mechanic, so has no problem with sorting the bad bits of mine and making it into a properly decent example. Sorted.

He's coming to get the car when he's paid at the end of the month, which gives me time to line up my next chod. Plenty time to go look at stuff locally and test drive it, or else see what comes up on here.

Or at least, that was the plan.

Until I clapped my eyes on this on Gumtree.

He'll take a deposit now, MOT it and let me have it at the end of the month.

I'm extremely excited and also quite a bit terrified, given the last example on here decided to set itself on fire.

Perfectly practical motoring.

What could possibly go wrong?

Sells reliable Swedish car, buys famously flakey French car from Scumtree, with a load of miles on it... actually, sleuthing the MOT history, it doesn't look that bad.

Bon chance!

High miles but a big stack of history from the extremely anal Citroen fanatic who owned it before the guy I'm buying it off. WCPGW?

Can't help but admire this level of courage!  Good luck!

Full MOT, big stack of history and low, low purchase price. If it goes on fire I'll get back way more than that off insurance. I literally cannot lose.

I'm fully excited to see the journey of this liability fine piece of motoring history.

Work done by the previous owner.

Remap, eh. I've heard these respond quite well to a remap, is this true?

But this was all done when the car was 6 years old, 10 years ago.

So all this stuff has failed again since and due to again?

Just messing with you. Wish I had the guts to go for a big Cit, but it would keep me awake at night aswell as keeping me poor.

I bet the EGR has just been mapped out of the ECU and blanked rather that the car having a performance remap. I had it done on a connect I had that had EGR issues.

Loving it, I'm surprised you didn't go for the much lower mileage example posted in the eBay thread though (same price).

A C6 still is on my must own list, let's see if the XM utterly ruins my ambition to own more French executive chod though.

I went for this one because it's got nowt that needs fixing, it's got a great history with it and the seller will MOT it before I get it.

Will I put you down for first refusal when it comes the time for me to move the C6 on...?

There's one of these on eBay right now fairly close to me and I still dream of owning one, if only for a while. The idea of paying fifty-odd quid a month on road tax for something I wouldn't use much, plus the thought of the expense if when something goes wrong keeps me from pressing the "Submit Bid" button, though.

Good luck with yours, they're fantastic looking cars.

There used to be a very forelorn looking C6 parked up near me with a cracked near side front window. Very odd i thought only to discover thanks to a bit of internetting it is a known issue when the leccy window decides not to move down a bit when closing the front door. Something to watch out for.

Better pic which takes in the beautiful side aspect. What an extremely handsome car that is.

Perfect color combo, too. Why would you ever buy one of these in silver or grey?

The light colour does wonders for the interior. Strongly agree that dark metallic over cream is absolutely the way to go with these.

That is indeed a fine-looking car. Two randoms, please, when the time comes.

I'm keeping this until it sets itself on fire!

You beauty.

Unfortunately, being stood meant it needed a jump and now the centre console screen just says "loading" or the like, apparently. Great start. The owner will hopefully get it sorted for Saturday...

And so it begins.

Stay strong, brother.
