This car was last used in 1985 and has been sat in the barn since. It belongs to a friend of mine who has now come to the conclusion, at 78 years of age, that he will not be driving the car again

I think the chance of him using it again would be very slim!

Someone's been doing something with it recently though judging by the tyre tracks in the mud.

Even ignoring the dubious "conversion", it does look mighty crusty

True, but realistically it's the only RHD MoT'd DS for sale within my budget at the moment, and having owned two neither of which I ever got to drive on the road, I'm determined to get a roadworthy one at some point.

This was at the show I took the Avantime to in August, it's a very cool car :D

Can you imagine the rozzers being given something like that these days??? I was watching that Cops thing on BBC1 the other day and one of them had a friggin Jaguar XF FFS!

We've had this before. I remember the bloke giving us the finger.

Bedford CF.

This + overdrive + LPG + new ally beavertail = my dream Shite recovery vehicle.

If you could get a couple of days work for a film company it would probably pay for itself.

Whilst it would probably be uneconomical to turn it back into a Safari, the Safari platform was used by Chapron for the convertibles which sell for really silly money. Even the later conversions with grp rear ends get advertised for 30 to 50K.

That Metro is the equivalent today's 1.7 diesel Astra or LPG Focus estate.

Not really, todays equivalent of a Metro would surely be something like a basic Fiesta/Polo/Panda/Corsa etc....

You may have seen the odd Cosworth or Scorpio back in the 90's but the current police force virtually all seem to drive high performance cars other than the lowly PCSO's. It's seems to be all ST Mondeos and VXR Insignias as the lowest form of acceptable police car.

I think that's a shame - it used to be a source of amusement to me to hear the sound of a siren and a screaming engine and then see a Fiesta 1.8D Popular Plus go roaring past at 34mph. :D

You often see traders putting a stupidly low price on an advert to attract attention and then mentioning in the small print "Real price is...". This poor chap doesn't quite seem to have got the hang of that particular trick...

There is, or was, a ruck of cars at stupid money on eBay similar to that. I reckon the reason they do it is for when people click 'highest first' when pressing buy-it-now listings.

A lot of people would read the advert out of interest because they're amazed someone would ask that much. Would guess the seller is hoping they'd then see the real price and think it was fair money.

Woah there seabass! Become a instant AS hero, This comes with a years mot, 6 months tax and all for £1250!

I'm surprised this didn't get any response guys, seems to me like this is the epitome of Autoshite. Amazing that there is still stuff like this out there living on the street all year and none of us have found it yet! If I owned this I would be so torn between pulling all the giffer-tat off and making it actually look acceptable, and leaving it as-is as a tribute to the previous owner...

Aye, It's not what it once was, Once upon a time you would be able to hear the sound of a dozen old men bashing themselves off in the dead of the night over something like this.

If the only police you see are running Hi-Po cars then I suggest you have a look at your local force and ask some questions about their funding.

As I have said in other posts, hardly ever see a patrol car on the road (unless they are unmarked I guess). The only police cars I see are on TV!

*Grampian PCSO have a red Audi A2 and, according to wikipedia, Strathclyde police run unmarked Hyundai i30s.

That's what I mean, how much would the cheapest Audi A2 have been?? £15k?? Even a new i30 is £10k plus......whats wrong with a cheap I10 or chevy matiz or whatever those bottom of the range things are these days? The basic local patrol cars were just that, basic. Fiesta/Escort popular, Metro City etc........how things have changed eh.

And apologies for misunderstanding your Metro - Focus comparison.

This fella definately needs to see a doctor of some sort. Not 'Who' but some sort of out of hours mental quack who also specialises in eye sight correction. Check out the pictures, especially the second one.

He's made a right K9 of that, arf arf.

'Could be entered into custom shows'

Is that after you've completely resprayed it and bollocked your kids for scribbling pictures of mutant Tellytubbies and a sort of half arsed Sid Vicious look-a-like on the panels?
