Within all that, you’ve nearly got it!

So, after much research on engines and models/specs, I settled on what I wanted and managed to find everything I wanted but it’s in Leeds. Bit of a ball ache but a 3.5hr train journey with only one change in Grantham isn’t too bad.

Have left a deposit so as long as it’s as described, we’re going for a 62 plate Evoque, 2.2, 4wd, Dynamic Lux…

This means it’s the decent engine and virtually top spec, it’s got pan roof, heated seats, dual view screen (where it’s one screen but from the passenger seat you can see freeview TV but from drivers seat you see the sat nav screen whilst driving), it’s got self parking, 825w Meridian sound system… everything I fancied if I was going to do this.

Insurance was the decider, working in the industry I know full well how bad these can be but I banged my details through Go Compare and it came out at £414 fully comp. More than I usually pay but still very good IMO!

It’s completely standard, everything on it is part of the Dynamic with added LUX pack. Orkney grey with black leather. 131k, full service history, cambelt has been done, 4 new Pirelli tyres too. All for under £6500. Chap has owned it since 2020 and selling due to getting a company car.

Hopefully it’s as good as it sounds. I know it’s a bit of a controversial one but I’ve got an itch so let’s scratch it…

I would have thought that these were waaaayyyyyyy more money than that.

Liability factor puts people off. Along with those that want these tend to want one brand new or a few years old, invariably on the tick.

I think this is somewhat right, a big thing was insurance killed the market as for a while no one could insure them for less than a mortgage payment each month.

Was the Evoque affected that much? I thought it was the higher RR models that suffered the most from thefts.

Yeah big time, one of the stats I read said during 2023 (I think), only 142 less Evoque’s were stolen than RR Sports

Did you pay the extra £3.20?

Would they pay out if the Evoque got nicked?

Looks like the cheapest insurance policy for a Range Rover!

Vinted doesn’t give you the choice 😂

Worth £50 odd for a bit of a visual deterrent, I can also get a Thatcham S7 approved tracker with a years subscription for £90 odd if I decide to.

Guy I got my mk7 transit had one. He said they are the best but you need to weld a small section on them to prevent a pin or something from been pushed out. Worth looking into.

Ace! Like @SiC, my missus has a secret crush on these but, seeing as she's married a skinflint, she has to make do with a FreeLoader :-)
Only reason I fancy the FWD only version is that I am allergic to haldex.

The insurance on JLR stuff is weird though - our 2005 FreeLoader 1 comes with an 'enhanced' premium which surprised me - I can insure a 4.5 litre Cayenne of the same age for less? Is that the downhill rolling crap from the recent high theftability of the newer models?
Parts are plenriful and cheap though - always a bonus for LR products ;-)

The fact Mrs JJ likes them / will drive it is a driving factor to be honest, she never really drove the 3 series or previous cars as she felt they were too big. She loved the 335D though as it was small and fast 😂

I don’t drive a great deal in the week with working from home and her Fiesta is getting up on the miles, so it makes sense to have something she can use whenever she wants and feels comfortable to drive.

Its not my normal go to car, they seem small, but it’s practical enough for us and they seem a really nice place to be from the drivers seat so we’ll give it a go.

Re insurance, I think so - a lot of it comes down to stats, a 4.5 cayenne is likely to be involved in less claims being a the rarer car. It’s a complete unknown half the time though.

First impressions? (As in the car, not your first attempt at a Frank Butcher)

From the drivers seat, brilliant. Much comfier than the 3 series, it’s the top spec so has got every gadget you can imagine. Drives beautifully.

Im not sold on them cosmetically from the rear, but given I’m usually the one sat in the drivers seat… I’m well happy.

Having been in a BMW for so long it actually feels like I’ve got a new car which is nice! Certainly no regrets, it’s a decent example of one too.

I was in bed before 10 after the day travelling yesterday which is unheard of for me but now it’s daylight I’ve had a chance to take a quick few photos.

After a proper look round it I’m still just as pleased. Noticed there’s an outstanding recall for the steering rack bolts so phoned my JLR dealer in kings lynn and they’ve booked it in for the 5th of March with a courtesy car which was painless.

That'd look quite decent with some spacers to make the arches look slightly less overpowering.

I know what you mean but I feel like I’m past all that now tbh, just want a ‘nice’ standard car

Do you know what..I really like this.

keen to see how you fare with this as the other half really wants one but I’ve discouraged her many times. The 2.2 seems to be the reliable bet.

I remember the first time i saw one of these in the metal, i couldn't believe how astonishingly small they actually were for a LR.

I thought they would basically be something in between a Mk1 RR sport and a Freelander 2 in size, probably slightly closer to a RR sport.

In reality, they're smaller than an Astra.

Nice little (For a LR) things though, and agree entirely, 2.2 seems the way to go on them!

I do too, I’m almost over the “I own an evoque” embarrassment now. It’s such a nice place to be and this particular spec is something special. The 2.2 does seem the safe option for sure.

I know what you mean, you’d certainly expect them to be bigger. I think it feels like the size of a Freelander to drive, having owned Astras it definitely feels bigger than one of those but I get your point, it’s not what you’d expect at all!

LR did market research back in the day and identified a significant number of potential customers who would like to buy a Range Rover but wouldn’t because it was too big, hence the evoque.

Just sat watching Salvage Hunters whilst waiting for Mrs JJ. Fully converted to RR.

I concur with the spacers. It's not bad now but it would look super meaty if they were pushed out into the arch more.

AliExpress CarPlay MMI box fitted, retains the original screen, it just replaces the factory satnav, you just press the NAV button and it takes you to CarPlay
