Wind kaos here in Gateshead.  Fences galore, at least one tramploine, a couple of escaped huskies roaming the streets (😲), some decent sized trees gone and a bungalow has lost it's roof entirely.  Police had the road closed at one point but now we just drive around the carnage.

Snow has been minimal although it's tried all day.

Well, today was fun* Alarm set for 0640 to go and watch the RAC Rally. Start was delayed so didn't leave til 0830. Got a puncture on the M74 so had more fun* changing that on the Rangey. Then got to Dumfries to find the rally was cancelled due to fallen trees on the stages.

To be fair, that Chris Harris off the telly and other rally crews had to spend the night in their cars on the stages. And there were folk trapped in the woods til this afternoon so could've been worse!

Roofs apparently been ripped off a pub about 10 minutes from me. Looking at the damage i can see from the video circulating, i just hope nobody has been hurt. No reports of injuries i've seen so far, fingers crossed.

Damage looks even worse in daylight!

We've had no power for 48 hours now, and no signal for all but one network since then.  Current estimates are the end of the week.

I've had a few bits getting topped up off the generator this afternoon, and yesterday I fitted two stoves in a hurry.

Good skies like.

sunday i was out doing the Allen Trial out near Bristol. glorious day with loads of sunshine, bloody cold start though.

finished the last section about 4pm, with a broken engine mount and some serious toe out following an altercation with a big rock... the drive home was already eventful, but between cirencester and oxford the snow really started to fall, not the most fun with interesting tracking 🤣 got home and not a single snowflake to be seen!

All our snow melted today

I celebrated by having a wash

Heated* bathroom.

We've been told we might have power back on by the end of the week.

Certainly puts some perspective on @PhilA's challenges seeing some of the entitled folk failing to deal with no electricity for a few days.

fortunately the weather forecast is looking up

Looks like it's been a little bit breezy.

Extended periods with the power out suck. Alternative fuels are always a boon.

Oh aye, they've plugged a generator in last night so we're warm and can see.  Nothing yet for Mr McGregor's place down the road.

Well, that wasn't forecast :-(

Aberdeenshire, not July. Surely thats a snow forecast be default?

Parents got power back on Tuesday night, alright for them with their solid fuel stoves but there are still loads of places in the NE without power who are entirely reliant on electricity for heat and cooking.

I see the govt have now stepped in and sent the army in to help, only a week too late...

Within a couple of months of moving to Aberdeen in autumn '93, I'd experienced an entire city being snowed in. At least according to Northsound and the P+J (i. e make of that what you will, etc.,): I was prepared for cold and snow, but being trapped was unexpected. Planes, trains and buses all off, people just sort of accepted it and carried on. I went with the flow!

After a week of promises broken by the electric company, they mobilized.

So after a week of driving a chain saw we can get in and out freely,  both drives blocked by massive trees, we have lost a dozen trees on the estate and two of the biggest are no more, this one was right over the drive. Ripped clean out the ground with a very good root ball.20211127_124912.thumb.jpg.973c3d742c6a50995d1b1359cdaf5fe4.jpg

Rubbish and tree limbs all over.20211127_075312.thumb.jpg.e8e048d5fa81ea34b310a25b3b6b5173.jpg

On a good note we have gained a set of stables.20211127_075346.thumb.jpg.b223addef75ae676d30c5368e7b0269e.jpg

and on another good note thankfully my garage is still standing and it took the full force of the wind as it's right in the open on the side of the hill.

We had power right through the storm and up to 4pm Saturday thought we had escaped it but nope the leccy disappeared and we where out for a couple of days,

total damage a dozen trees down,  next doors greenhouse felled by one of our trees and a huge lead capping of the chimney which two of us couldn't even lift,  a couple of bust slates and the other neighbours lost half of all ridge cappings. All in all not to bad except the huge holes in the skyline from ancient massive 200+ year old trees which we can not replace in our lifetime.

Garage is looking good Garry. Big shame about the trees, hope they provide some warmth for a few years to come at least.

Crikey. I don't know much about trees but I do love ones that are sort of landmarks. Sorry to see that a fair few have been lost up your way. Garage looks grand though at least.

We barely got more than a few strong puffs of wind inland in Bonnybridge but just up the road nearer the Forth it was howling.

There's now a watch on another system which is currently in the middle of the Atlantic and may be heading for the middle of the UK at some point next week.

Here we go again, another week of this
