New outer sills arrived for the Maserati today :D

Hey JohnF, did you get them from Eurospares?

How did you get on, I want to buy some metalwork for my Maser. The bits are available ‘to order’, and seemingly not very expensive, but they reckoned on the phone that availability depended on when the factory got a batch made up so impossible to say when they might arrive!

Yep I did, Eurospares are generally pretty good. They had the n/s sill in stock, the o/s one came from the Maserati factory but everything arrived within 10 days or so. One of the sills has a small dent in it though, not a problem in my case as my car has sill covers but I'd have sent it back otherwise.

David Askew's spares service (http://www.davidaskew.co.uk/) is pretty good as well, his new parts are often cheaper than Eurospares or MIE in America.

What bits of metalwork are you planning to replace?

I have a mate who's wanting to sell his C reg Mk2 Granada 2.8i Ghia with a manual box that i might be interested in as a winter project.

It's been in his garden for 18 months but only as he couldn't afford to use it, It has a rust wing but that easily changed and the inner wing was an advisory on the last mot, The biggest bug bear is that it's lost it's injection system as it was having emissions problems and has had a 3.0 carb fitted instead but he said it runs well it it, It also needs to loss those Cossie alloys.

He said he's been offered between £5-600 by some banger racing friends but it's too good for that, I've provisionally offered £550 to save it from the oval, Does that sound expensive? I only want it as a project to tidy up over winter and use for a short while.

Seems like a fair price to save it from being bangered :)

He hasn't got back to me yet to agree to that price though!, I think he doesn't really want to sell it but with a new wife and baby and doing a new house up he hasn't got the time for it and needs the money.

It came from a lady who his wife works with who's husband died so it's been well looked after.

Apart from the manky wing and the small hole at the base of the rear window, it looks pretty good; even the Scorpio Cosworth wheels look okay on it :)

That Granada's well worth 500 quid as manual ones are the hole grail of Mk2 Grannies. Is it a conversion as I thought only the uber rare 2.8 Sports got manual boxes?

I dunno why they didn't do more 2.8 manuals as from my experience the autobox in these is a bit shit.

I'm pretty sure it was the original gearbox but i thought by 1985 all Ghia X's came with injection, but looking at the badge and the lack of i's would it have been carb feed from new?

The giveaway is the chin and boot spoilers. only the injection had the chin one from the factory.

I love Mk2 Granadas. I've got serious wantings for a 2.8i Ghia X estate.

Best of luck with that... I've decided to try save my front wings as I think it'll be a bitch of a job to remove the old ones.

I've been thinking of a winter project to fill my time after welding up the Imp's sills - and now, having given the wheelarches of the Imp a smack with a cross-pein hammer and seen how much wob has fallen off them, I've found it. I don't know whether to  or  !

GREAT WORK. I saw this for sale a while back and reet fancied it, but had about £5 to my name. What's it like compared to a ye olde beetle?

This evening, I WASHED the Range Rover. Not just the usual pressure-wash-off-the-worst-bits, I used detergent and everything! First time since I bought it but I understand there's a chance of sunshine tomorrow and I need some 'nice' pictures of it. Bet it rains.

Also had a little trip out in the Mini. The transmission really does make some odd noises, but she's just clocked up 67,000 miles. Bloody good fun though and it doesn't half get some attention from female students. Probably the sparkly paint rather than the strange hippy at the wheel I guess.

I'd like to go sideways in that Granada, please.

Was that when it was for sale last month? I managed to get 2K off that asking price!!! It's still the second most expensive car i've ever bought, but it's a damn good one! Compared to a ye olde beetle, it's pretty much exactly the same, steering box still has a yard of play, it squeaks and rattles, and has no steering lock, however, it also rides really nicely compared to my old one, I reckon this is cos of the dropped spindles rather than being on the limit of the balljoints though.. Switches are better, and it has a heated front and rear screen! seats are foam rather than sprung, and comfier for it. Oh, and it's 12 years old, so has a metric shitload less rust!!! :) 1600 with injection makes it nice from cold too!

Funny enough I've found out tonight that it in fact came from a scrapyard owner after been used by some banger racers, the one's who fitted the 5 Spd box (I thought it was standard but it was a auto originally) It seems that they want to buy it back to race and the box alone is worth £200, they have offered him £800, I'm not competing with that so it sadly could be curtains time for the Granny. :(

Blitzarella, it's actually a really nice deep bluey purple colour, i assume this one was a boggo spec before it got nagged about with, was 9oddK over here from Beetles UK when it was new. Thankfully they didnt do the usual drill for side mouldings and not rustproof so it's happily still rust free. Still wont start for a few hours around lunch time though.....

Picked up the Paseo wheels and stereo from Cavette. Thanks to him for sorting that out. Will see if they look any better on the Sera today.

M'COLI, I also got the radiator from him for the Cavalier. I will let you know when I am heading over your way, or just give me a shout if you are wanting to come over here.

Had a drive down to Colchester yesterday in the 2.8i Turbo Technics Cabriolet Capri yesterday. It was its single longest non stop trip since 1994. It seems that it is now running OK, even if getting it to start from cold is a bit of a pain.

CaprionTrailer.jpg

It's got a pair of original Goodyear tyres on the back, which are a bit out of shape, so the drive was a little rattly.

Holy cow, didn't even know you had that. Have you got a thread about it on here and if not could you start one please?

Posted

Sorry, it isn't mine, it belongs to my boss. I've been given the job of giving it a bit of a renovation to make it presentable and get it running right.

I'll likely get a thread started on it, though I've not got many pictures of it at the moment.

Got a letter in the post today from Transport for London advising me that my Ducato van won't meet the LEZ emissions standards from 1st January. I can only assume they're sending such letters out to every single registered keeper of a pre-2001 diesel van - which must be costing them a fugging fortune.
