Would it be easier to get one from a scrapyard?

I believe Mk3 parcel shelfs are like rocking horse poo due to the shagging with the weight of speakers over the years, I might give the areosol trick a try.

I'm (we'll my wife, our housemate and I) are taking a empty trailer from Wisbech to Leeds via Boston on Sunday as we are picking up a car for Ritchie G of this parrish. Would that tie in with your plans? Would you mind amatures (who admitadly have moved loads of cars in the past couple of years) taking you car behind an LDV 400? We'd only charge you the diesel (but I would have to get permission from the Mrs).

If you are interested PM me.

Well total and utter shite, came home today to find my mum has abondoned the Gold Lancer at the front of my house - Bugger and double bugger. She's recently had a hip replacment and decided to give up driving. SO basically given it back to me thing is at last count I had 8 cars and only a drive for one LOL.. Me thinks I need to graft this weekend and get it cleaned up and expect it on ebay soon... :( Either that or it's a hit with the angle grinder (only joking !!)

Went up to see the welders today. The 604 will hopefully have signs of a weldathon soon.

As I was there, and it's just had the starter motor replaced (and so it begins..) I decided to fire it up. Not heard it running for ages..

That oddfire V6 is a weird sounding lump, that's for sure.

I'm beginning to look forward to actually using the thing soon.

Yes! I R the WINNA of an e-bay auction for a Scorpio keyfob which, according to the previous owner of my car, is made of cast unobtainium! At £11.27, it was a bit less than my maximum bid, too. Keyfobs are interchangeable between Scorps, you just need to follow a simple procedure in order to programme them. Happy days...I may even decide to treat the car to a set of proper, thick, expensive floor mats, too...I R THE KING OF MODS!

I went up the welder's today as well. My 2CV really is very, very rusty around the rear. Will be nice to have the boot floor and inner wings back in contact with each other again. One side is already a nice patchwork of actual metal - work is progressing and hopefully I'll have it back next week.

Leaving the floors/bulkhead until the winter, as it'll involve a fairly serious strip-down.

Simple, as long as the previous owner gave you the red (master) key and the microswitch in the driver's door still works....

I've got the red key, so only one hurdle to clear! Is there any way of getting another red key? I'm always worried about losing my stuff...

Posted

The only way of getting a new red key is to take the car to a Ford main dealer and have them code a new one to the ECU. This costs a LOT (mainly because they aren't interested in fixing scorpios) so I'd recommend geting a bank deposit box just for the red key to live in.

I don't have one for mine, and I've only got one key.... what a pita.

The Scirocco has run completely free of expense (apart from petrol*) for the last 5 weeks and 4 days.

*& other standing charges like tax and insurance. This feels very nice

Identical to a Transit one, or for that matter most Yank Fords, and programmable by turning the ignition to position 1 and off again until you hear a bong from behind the dash, press one of the buttons on the fob and it'll bong again. Repeat for all the fobs you have. Maximum number I think is four.

Most decent key places can copy non-red keys, so not having one isn't a major issue.

The 86 Bemmer of mine passed the MOT this morning , amazingly it would have passed catalytic emissions except for a 0.3% too high a C/O reading , advised the rear wishbone bush on the N/S front was a bit iffy , you can see the wheel pull back on the brake test so ive ordered a pair just to be sure , not keen on scuffed tyres which might happen if i leave them

so all in all Im well chuffed

Just been to the local scrappies fishing for bits and they've got some quality tat mostly completely shagged. No pics I'm afraid as I'm afraid they're going to set the dogs on me if I start snapping. Things I spotted are. A talbot Solara, mk5 cortina, Renault 4, 70's Mini, a really shagged SD1, Volvo 244Dl, mk3 Escort Popular (no parcel shelf), a Starion and an old 300ZX. If anyone needs bits from any of the above then I can check them out and let you know

Another new member of the fleet was collected today and I'm uber happy. Quick 20 mile hike up to Mr_B0110X's gaffe, trip to the Post Office and bimbled home in this little beauty...

Exceedingly happy with it, it drove GR11.69 (recurring) and it was class just CRUZIN back to the hood in it. Drives/stops in a straight line, no nasty noises or knocks, pulled well and was just how it should be. Brucie bonus of finding the radio code when I got it back so Radio 2 now safely stored in the memory. Have to say Mr B is as honest as they come, in fact the car was probably underdescribed if anything and he's a bloody nice bloke as well.

Perfect compliment to my fleet of shite and one I'm going to enjoy driving, had forgotten how nice it is to have a lazy automatic.

That doesn't sound like unobtainium to me...very strange that the guy hadn't been aware of that- he definitely seems like he knows his stuff.

Yes, but can you programme the fob without a red key? I'm confused (now that's a surprise).

I'm sure Fords of that era are programmable with one key - put key in, go between position 1 and 2 five times in 6 seconds or something - just keep wanging it back and forth till the dashboard goes "bong!". Leave key in, press a button, "bong!" and it's done. They still use the same system on our 09 Focii at work.

Failing that, my P-reg Mondeo had a different method involving the door lock but it was still only one key needed, as I only had one key.

My Seat annoyingly needs two keys - you need one in the door, and one in the ignition to register the remote. I've only got one key, the remote doesn't work, so my choices are either pay Seat an insane amount of money for a new remote key and them to code it, or buy a blank and get it cut but it'll never actually start the car as it'll have no immobiliser. So that's £15 just to make my existing key work!

Well, finally the 820e and power sterring pipe spitting saga may have come to an end.

Not had any form of power-steering in the 820e since last Friday. Took the car in yesterday and ended up being dropped home by the gaffer mate as they couldnt find a more permanent solution. Today I went to the garage early to see what I could muster up, I exhausted all leads which included scrappies, Rover "specialists" and so on... Finally, my mate pointed me in the right direction towards 'Pirtek' who specialise in pressurised pipes, I balled on down there with the old pipes, they took the exact mesurements, cut down the old pipe and constructed one strong pipe, they used some very strong flexi material as used in power steering pipes to make it easier to work with.

With that done, the new pipe was fitted in a matter of minutes, now I've got one pipe strong pipe going from the power steering to the system rather than trying to bodge a 'bridge' between the pump pipe and new pipe leading to the system.

Hopefully this is now properly sealed to higher standard, now I can steer without fearing if the pipe will explode again.

In other shite news, the Sterling is coming on leaps and bounds, its had its gearbox fitted, correct fluids used (this time, though will still need a flush through I reckon) top-hose replaced, all it needs now is the backbox fitting, an MOT and some rent, I should then find myself behind the wheel of a V6 again. Goodness knows how I'm gonna afford the petrol :P

They're off an S2 106 Rallye, but it's still using the horrid original nuts. I have some of the correct Rallye jobs now, together with some Serck alike plates. Some blind luck with the PSA parts computer also located the correct air filter when three previous attempts drew a blank.

The Volvo's MOT ran out today :(

However, it gets re-tested on Wednesday, and I can see no reason why it shouldn't pass again :D

I attacked the grey wheels on my Escort today, The last owner had them repainted but it wasn't excatly silver and i hated them, so i took them off and had the fun job of rubbing them down ready for paint.

I removed the weights from the wheels as I planned on getting them balanced tomorrow due to the steering shake at 70mph.

I had a few issues with the new silver paint reacting with the old paint but they look much better, I'll give them a quick polish tomorrow, and even more of a result I took the car on a drive once I finished, got the car up to 80mph and the shaking has gone and even stranger the steering wheel now sits straight!, Result!.

Have a complementary photo to celebrate.

Bloody hell Trig, that looks ace.

Todays shiteage update from Cheshire.

Totally failed to go and look at the cheap Hyundai Acc(id)ent I was supposed to have viewed but can sort something in the week so not especially arsed. I have, however, been offered a Rover Streetwise (how's that for a contradiction in terms?) as a chop in against the Beemer. Best of all it's a diesel and it has some issues. What could possibly go wrong? :D

I hope it's on standard steel rimz too Billy?

Took the 305 for its first trip into Manchester last night, filling the Q Park Piazza (rofl) with a throaty burble. Those BNP plates are getting binned very soon as they're getting on my tits. The air filter wars appear to have produced a winner - the Diesel element was slightly too tall but fitted fine in the housing. The inner gauze diameter was spot on, so I can only conclude that the 1600 carburetted XUs and the 1900 XUDs shared a similar air box. Or perhaps Jacques couldn't be arsed on that day at Rennes and just shoved in whatever fell to hand.

The plugs and filter seem to have made a difference - although it still isn't that willing to rev and very occasionally misses if you press on. I will drop & top the oil in the next couple of days and get SCTSH_ANDY on the case to see if anything can be done about the timing. Pete-M gave it a go and made a massive improvement to how it runs.

The Rallye steels have made a huge improvement to the handling, although I think a track rod end may have gone west because it's a bit vague when hauled to port. I'm still very wary of the back end after I ended up 4 wheel drifting round the infamous A34 roundabout where Halifax Mark came to grief A framing his Kadett Caravan. Top shiteist points were accrued when the front tyres turned out to be a dubious selection of Stomils and that aspiring ditchfinder brand, Hero. OEM Rallye P7000s are now in their place, and seem to be top drawer in the wet. The new boots are slightly ruined by the original nuts jutting out from the mounting face. When Pete-M helped me fit them we had nothing else available. The 16 new studs clanging around the door bin of the C4 should sort that out in no time.

I told the Peugeot garage to ram their Lion bore caps though - I'm not paying £15.50 each for four tiny cobs of plastic. Now that bearded shouty man (the man who denied a 405 Mi16x4 ever existed when SCTSH_ANDY had one parked outside) on Robins & Day's parts department has left, I shall be visiting them more often for bits and pieces. I haven't yet rocked up in the 305 yet however, I think it would make a comical photo shoot. Best pack the D70 methinks.........

The brakes either need bleeding or replacing too. Despite the vendor's assertion that they were replaced in 2008, more effort goes into exercising my cheek capilliaries than actually stopping at the required line. Solid 266 mm discs are dirt cheap on eBay, as are the pads, so it won't be a massive effort to sort them if that's what's required. The handbrake is hilariously bad.

Other than the dampers squawking incessantly, it seems to be behaving, lest you discount the dashboard idiot lights doing the trip fantastic whenever you stop at a set of lights. If they're to be believed, the engine and radiator are a fluid ounce away from certain death.

It got me home.

It also got a baptism of fire on the Sinderland tip run - the undulating country road that I take all of my cars down. Other than practically emptying the fuel tank leaving me to coast into a Shell station, it passed with flying colours. Unless you count the claart that got sucked into the carb leaving it running like a bag of nails and conking out in Sale Moor after leaving the petrol station. Lots of colourful language and starter motor action got it going again and eventually the blockage cleared.

You've just reminded me when I accidentally ended up drifting the works Peugeot 305 van when I worked for my dad's company. Turns out one of the rear tyres had about 5psi in it. Exciting!

LOL, sounds like you're having "fun" with it. I'm beginning to wonder whether the creepy ginger kid did put some kind of curse on the car after all...
