Sorry to hear about the cat. May he RIP.

My grump of today is PC-related. I found an old laptop at my parents' place in Greece, and I had always assumed it had died long ago. However, it did spring into life when plugged in (albeit with a dodgy CMOS battery, but that's no biggie). It's got a GR11 17" screen, so I thought I'd look into reviving it. I defragged and tested the hard disk and everything seems to be in order. Where's the grump? Mildly excited by the discovery of an arse-nal of interesting system tools, I decided to test the HDD in my current laptop and, of course, it was an OMG TEST FALURE!!1!11!Spent the last 3.5 hours creating an 'image file' for a backup, then I'll spend another eternity running a DOS-based thing that supposedly repairs* bad sectors, then I'll probably have to format it and chuck it all in the bin...

Looks like they've done something to YouTube so you can't use Ad Block on it anymore. I've just been getting a blank screen unless I disable AB and of course that puts fucking adverts everywhere, including on top of the video I'm trying to watch....

I don't seem to be having that problem on Chrome. I switched to Chrome then headed to YouTube with no AdBlocker. It was bloody horrific!

I haven't watched that yet but I've got it downloaded.

What really bugs me about Trump is that he feels he has to weigh in every time there's some discussion about wind turbines. You got your golf course, now fuck off and play on it and leave the rest of us alone.

Did you spot the old G wagens? The chap Finlay used to work at auctions in aberdeen, fine lad he is. :)

It's fine for me with Firefox

Must have made an appearance before but no harm in another dishonourable mention for self-important pedestrians roaming car-parks with a death wish. Just encountered another of their braying cud-chewing flock. I was reversing out of a parking bay and clearly saw this beach-ball of a woman deliberately quickening her step towards the back of my car.

Not only that but additionally but she felt impelled to start angrily waving her fleshy fist as she continued to her car which was parked across a bay marked for emergency vehicles only!

Surely there should be some kind of a bounty on these dangers to shipping.

Really sorry about Freddie,

If it helps I love this pic, Fred probably walked this route 10 times a day en route to crap in the neighbours roses and on this occasion stopped and said "what the heck!"

This Praktica camera I lent off Pete-M was designed by a cunt. The body leaks light at the bottom and it has the most RETARDED rewind mechanism going. 'Press the rewind button on the body and wind clockwise until the tension in the spool continues very not' quoth the instruction manual.

I hit the button. I rewind and rewind. For about 5 minutes. All tension disappears on the winder. It makes various hideous noises like it's scratching or about to snap the film (that's normally a Zenit trait). 'Yes' thinks I, that must be it.

Open camera back. Film still in place. Several feet to go.

ARGH.

Lose 15 out of 36 shots. TWATS.

Also, my favourite piss cheap B&W film (Lucky SHD 100) needs to be developed with different chemistry (E6) instead of the much more commonplace C41 method. Which takes 3 BLOODY WEEKS because no-one in the NW does it.

BLOODY TAIWANESE.

They should make instagram more authentic like this, ie occasionally it just loses half your photos, charges loads of money every 30 odd shots, completely fucks up your iphone etc etc

After weeks of searching, my sister in law texts me tonight, "I've bought a car, a Mitsubishi Lancer, it's low mileage and cheap, It's in Scotland and I'm getting it delivered...".

Waiting for a recovery truck in the Rover Coupe. It's run out of electricity again, having just come outof the garage for the fourtg time on Friday. It won't drain when there (it did once so they removed the radio fuse and it was ok fora week). It can't be charging propery or has a massive drain. I'm almost atthe petrol can and mstch stage with it:-(. cu

I think Prakticas always were like that. When I bought my first SLR hundreds of years ago, I was warned off them. I bought a Cosina which all my mates took the piss out of, but with a couple of decent Pentax K lenses it was pretty good. They all had aperture priority Canons ( the BMW of the photo world at the time  ) which under exposed every shot that had a millimetre of sky in it. Backlit button, pah! Get yourself a manual body. The Cosina was soon supplemented by a Pentax K1000, the weight of a breeze block but the body of a (rather large) nymph.

Ah - memories!

In 1988 I did a photography GCSE and the school photography dept. only had 4 cameras. Praktica MTL3s.

If you only wound it for 5 minutes, well no wonder it wasn't re wound. About 15 minutes is minimum! :-)

Those Praktikas are a good introduction to the world of East European communist era goods. Think of it as a 35mm FSO SLR and you will be about right.

Thankfully, that Xmas my parents bought me one of these:

I've still got it in a cupboard somewhere.

Time to get the multimeter out. Though I can't remember how you check for a drain. I did do it on the Rangie, so I must have learnt it at some point. That'll also tell you whether it's charging properly. My BX estate is kicking out only 13.5v, which is a pretty poor charge rate, but enough for you to think it's charging ok. Then you wonder why you need a jump start...

Thanks Dolly. The very nice man (not the AA) (and have you noticed 99% of recovery people are really nice) got his meter out, 13.1/2 with no load, 13.6 when revved, 12.9 with lights on. Perhaps the new altenator (3 months ago) is a dud :( , still I think there was a six month warrenty with it so that should be ok.

Alternator now being replaced under warrenty, so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

New moan, Laundrettes. I'd never been in one before the weekend but after the cat disgraced herself on our bed the duvet needed to be washed. Unmanned Laundrette in downham Market, £6 to use the large washing machine needed for a duvet and £3 to dry seemed a bit much. Add to this both machines only took pound coins, so it took about 20 minutes to find somewhere to get change before I could use the bloody place. Would it be thay difficut to get a change machine installed?

Minor grump but I bought a parts washer (second hand of course) that the vendor described as being empty. Only it wasn't entirely empty and my car reeks of paraffin/Jizer now.

And Dunhelm will sell you a new one for £9.59.

£9.00 for a wash and dry is stupid.

If things continue the way they are for me, expect to see a grabber through the roof of both Polo and Princess. I've had enough.

I don't grump easily, but right now I'm 95% grump. My other half's been working in the same university department as me for almost 2 years, but her contract will be terminated in a couple of months. The bullshit reason they gave her, the way they treated her and the way other people have been kicked out recently makes me want to find a new job too after 8 years. Bah. The apparently brilliant scientist who runs this place is turning into a tyrant, hiring and firing based on snap judgements.

That Parking invoice. Again.

My folks are leaning on me very, very heavily to pay it. To the point that we're having screaming rows about it every time it's mentioned. 'You might go to court, my mate at Bury Council says they sometimes take people to court, why won't you listen to us, why won't you find a solicitor to deal with it, why won't you pay it?'

Yeah, but they can't let it go, can they?

Result: Massive guilt tripping based on things COMPLETELY unrelated to the situation, screaming rows, me being accused of being useless and lazy and 'not sorting things out', more screaming rows and 'well, you pay things when you get taken to court'. Why can't they just leave it alone? This reaction is EXACTLY WHAT THE PARKING CUNTS WANT. Why am I getting ripped to pieces for standing my ground?

Right now, I want everyone at that firm to die in agony of the most horrifying disease imaginable. They make money off claims that have no basis in law after causing people hideous amounts of stress and misery.

I do not want to pay these cunts. I do not want to pay them. I don't see why I have to pay them. I'm not even particularly well at the moment. My folks throw these arguments at me when I'm barely awake and are surprised at the reaction they get.

Every fucking microbe in me wants to ignore them but I know I'll end up paying them just to make it go away. Money I DON'T HAVE and that the parking company DO NOT DESERVE.

I think I'll just go to the unit or start spending lots of time after lectures at Uni. I don't need this over some supposed threat from some stupid tin pot shack arsehole parking racket that hides behind a PO box.
