Pete- M, come back!!

Anyway, I think Horse racing should be replaced with Guniea-pig racing. If they fall over you can just pick them up again.

I don't see how bullfighting is a vile and cruel sport banned from most of Europe whereas the GN is nationally televised and celebrated... oh some posh country twats like it? I'm sure cock-fighting would contribute to the economy too if that were legalised. NARGH! INTERNET ANGRY!

Whilst I take your point of it being cruel, you can't really make a direct comparison since the entire point of bullfighting is to kill the animal

Comparing a two minute silence to remember the sacrifice of millions of people to protect our way of life to hillsborough is exactly the sort of hyperbole that makes people unsympathetic to the continuing refusal to play on the anniversary

Dude, think about what you're saying! 96 people died that day and you're complaining about timetabling difficulties due to one community wishing to honour their dead. That's nearly twice as many that died in the London bombings - in what's essentially an industrial accident - a silence is observed for the latter, so why shouldn't one community be allowed to observe one for the former?

In terms of league timetabling then Chelsea misfortune occurs all the time. Multi-cup teams all the time get this kind of dilemma but if you enter that many competitions then you have to pay the price, and clearly the best resourced team will obviosuly end up the winner. Liverpool for example has faced far more cup games than other teams and partially due to this their league performance has been dire.

why did you cut out the bit of my post where i said they should never have to play on the anniversary ?

like someone else said, this isnt the place for it. lets get back to cars.

Whenever the Grand National is run, there will, without fail, be at least one horse killed/put down. That makes it every bit as bad as a sport which sets out to cause a death. It's a shame the injury/death rate among jockeys isn't the same, then they might start thinking twice.

As far as not treating broken limbs goes, the previously stated reasons could well be right. However, even if they weren't, I suspect there may be a quicker insurance pay-out for the owners when a horse actually expires.

+1. A bit of o/t is fine, I'm as guilty as anyone, but we can get awfully het up. And again, I hold up my own hand for that. Coffee and bacon butties all round, ok?

A5, my sympathies.

Here's a related grumpy question though: why do the horses have to be shot if they break a leg?

Horses circulation depends on the animal walking and stranding. This is why horses sleep standing up. Without the ability to walk and stand the horse develops infections which circulate through the entire system of the horse causing incredible pain and discomfort. Horses very very rarely recover from an injury like this and the best way to avoid lingering suffering for the animal is to euthanise the creature

she had a long innings, touching 90, was in hospital for the last couple of weeks, so not too much of a shock to hear of her passing, but she always told me not to dwell on the dead and i think she was right.

youngest daughter of an ironstone miner, denied schooling from the age of fourteen (as they couldnt afford to pay a penny a day or whatever), married a squaddie in 1943, worked part time for most of her life, outlived all her friends and all but one of her sisters, and had good retirement. unfortunately i will be reminded of it everytime someone mentions titanic.

her favourite driving story: passed her driving test to drive ambulances on the steelworks during WW2, nervous driver (and even worse passenger) she gave up driving sometime in the sixties after stopping at a junction at the bottom of a hill when the cyclist behind her smashed the morris minor rear window with his head after his brakes failed. cyclist wasnt badly injured but the shock made her stop driving for ever.

A5; sorry to hear that.

We're currently watching my Grandfather on a gradual downwards spiral, it's sad to watch as the dementia gradually takes hold, but occasionally there are flashes of brilliance that remind you who he is. E.G one of the sharpest witted Gentlemen who ever walked the earth. From Flight Engineer in the Canadian Air Force flying out of Eastmoor, through his travels to everybloodywhere to the present day, he has literally been there, done that. Shame he doesnt seem to remember most of it.

Also: I'm shit at laying floor tiles.

Jon

he's thrown his toys out the pram - if he wants to do so, then what can we do to change his mind.

Personally, public strops never go down well. I wish him well and hope he comes back, but if he doesn't then its as much his loss as ours. The thing is, this isn't some personal clique and if he doesn't like the opinions of others, he's in the wrong place! And, as someone on the PC forum when he created merry hell there, he's maybe just had a little taste of his own medicine from then.

On that note, I'm leaving - I'll be away from this afternoon till tonight - late!

Campbell

PS Pete - it isn't meant as a dig - so come on back!

Politics, religion and sport should be banned! Why have a forum for old chod yet members invariably leave because of some other shit. There are a million sites on the Internet to discuss everything else, why here?

Politics, religion and sport should be banned!

You know what? I agree!

Campbell, I know I caused merry hell on the PC forum by saying MGBs are shit and Marina owners should be fired into space but there's a world of difference between winding up a few BL apologists about their choice of chod and telling people to "get over themselves" and that "nobody owes you anything" on the anniversary of 96 people being killed.

I wind people up about shit cars. I do not launch calculated attacks about the memory of dead people, or about anyone in particular. That's a different thing altogether and what has happened here. I say calculated because one of the people spouting offensive shit until recently had a "S*n" avatar, combine this with what has been said and it's obvious that his remarks weren't merely through ignorance of the facts, they were intended to "get a rise", and cause maximum offence Which they did.

I'm angry about this not just as a football fan, but on a personal level. I lost a good friend on that day and to be told that Chelsea having to move a match is more important than remembering my friend and the 95 others killed is very offensive indeed. This wasn't trolling, it wasn't someone having a sick joke. It was sick. LFC holds a remembrance at Anfield every year in memory of those killed, the team attends and it is a mark of respect to the dead that LFC will not play on that date. To say that because another team has to reschedule a match It's somehow more important than remembering 96 people killed is madness. They weren't soldiers, or in a war zone. They were ordinary people going to support their team playing a game and they never came home. My friend who was killed was fifteen years old, the nephew of a chap I worked with. We took him to the football and looked after him like a younger brother. The only reason I wasn't there was because that day was my girlfriends birthday and we had planned other things before the fixture was announced. Otherwise I may not be here now.

I will say no more about it now as this isn't the place for it.

There's a whole world of difference between saying a particular type of car isn't very good and what was said here.

I wish people wouldn't take the internet so seriously - half of what's said on message boards people wouldn't say to eachother's faces. That's why some people sound so offensive. Because of the anonimity of it all people tend to exaggerate and shoot their mouths off. If you don't like someone, block them. I often get annoyed by some peoples comments so I just block them now instead of tryinh to argue.

Anyway, the Czech Post system can fuck off today. Having waited for 30 minutes to collect a parcel I was told to get another ticket and go to another window. There is a choice of 16, yes 16, buttons on the ticket machine at then entrance and I was bloody positive I had the right one.

People of the UK, never complain about Royal Mail. Or the NHS for that matter.

Right, I've pm'd you Pete and apologies to everyone for fucking this place up with stupid arguments that aren't wanted or needed.

No wonder people are pissing off when they have to read the sort of shit that's been posted on here and I'm as much to blame as anyone hence the apology.

Glad that one's sorted out. I don't think we should ban discussions of non-shite (as long as it's in these non-shite threads) but jeez we need some perspective at times!

Alternatively, if you find these threads so appalling, don't read them! It's the same reason I don't go on the Daily Mail website. I don't need that shit in my life.

Oooof, its got a bit heated on here!

So have a picture of Autoshite Head Office

When I travelled last summer the postcards I sent from CZ arrived a good 2-3 weeks after all the others. Diesel was only about a quid a litre though so ying and yang, oh, and the country itself was pretty wicked too. They had Tesco :)

I hope this tiff gets sorted boys, At the end of the day (god I'm starting to sound like Jeremy Kyle now!) we are all here for a common interest, Cars, and that's what we should focus on, not politics, football or religion as it always ends in tears.

To be honest I don't bother reading these threads much anymore anyway because it's mostly filled with crap with ends in arguments, Pete, I'm sorry for your loss, after reading that it's no wonder your emotional about it all, you have every right to be.

On some shite related news I just passed a really tatty early 80's Iveco recovery truck on the A12 with a faded recovery sign painted across the front and a knackered Ford A series chassis cab on the rear, Livin the dream.

It appears I've got some things wrong so apologies to Billy and the rest of ya.

Can we kill this fuckin' thread now?

Great day. Went to work at 6 this morning, got a phone call off the Mrs at 4:30..... we've been burgled. Wankers took my shiny new laptop, a PS3 and games, my charging dock for my phone, some of the Wife's jewellery (of which there isn't a great deal.....) and 8 quid from a tub in the kitchen set aside for the window cleanr. BASTARDS!!!!! I just hope Plod find them first, or there'll be some Sweeney/Gene Hunt style action going off round here. So if any odd posts get made in my name, it's the thieves. I have my suspicions who it is. Little cunt.

Gawd. Aside from the happily resolved grumblings, there's been some horrible stuff happening to folks! Sorry about your loss A5, sorry about your losses Albert. Sorry about your car Louise but man up! A headache is just an excuse surely? :P

I might have made an insensitive post; my apologies if it hit a raw spot. I was in an especially black place over the w/e because... actually it doesn't really matter why, as it certainly didn't involve any kind of bereavement.

My on-topic grunt(s) are: watching a complete Magnex s/s exhaust for a Mk3 Scrote go on the Bay for £20, and being too skint to bid for it. Also, realising I'm probably not going to get to any meets/shows this year, at all, other than the Gathering in August.

I shall refrain from detailing the reasons why the above are true, lest it spark another political spat - let's just say that despite having paid £££££s in NI/tax contributions throughout my working life, I'm now worthy of nowt but 'bread & water'. Oh well, at least I'm not living near the Syrian border :|
