At least he hasn't had a chance to completely fuck it up yet. Stickers can easily be removed, so I'd hope there's a chance it will end up with a sensible owner who will just leave it alone. These really aren't my thing, but it didn't half look good in the original advert!

Looked much better before he painted the wheels though.

Posted

doesnt he want a MASSIBVE 1500 quid for that 500 quid Vw?

Posted

£3000 more like, I'm sure it's worth something close to that to the right person as it's had a full bare metal restore but that person wouldn't be me though!

Posted

I'm pretty sure he bought it for £3000 so I'd be very surprised if he only wanted £1500 for it... When it first went up for sale, and when someone actually bought it, I was genuinely LOL'ing for a good few days just on the knowledge that these idiots are out there. I know it's had a lot of work done on it, but you'd have to be an actual mentalist to pay three bags for a boring old VW, especially as those bumpers and plates look utterly shit, and making it look good again will involve making it look like every other standard Mk1 Derby out there.

OMG 3k???????

cars always sell better with lidl/aldi in the background

If you sacked the retarded stickers off I actually like the look of that Derby.

It's not worth 3 grand to me though, very few VWs are.

Whats happended to the price of LPG? Its gone up by over 11% at my local Morrisons since last week.

Also, on a slightly related matter some chumps have been down my street last night trying to rob fuel out of all the cars. For some reason they tried to get my LPG but couldn't (might have been funny if they had managed it) but they did something with my fuel cap so now need to buy a new one. Bwarstwaards

Posted

LPG prices will be on the rise because more people are using it and any government won't want to miss the revenue from petrol and diesel.

Just like diesel was cheaper than petrol years back because there weren't many DERVs about.

Posted

LPG was price fixed until 2009. I paid 68.9p/litre last night. Same as pretty much the whole of last year.

Diesel is taxed heavily because it's filthy carcinogenic shit. The UK taxes diesel more than petrol because the loony left pandered heavily to the green brigade and committed themselves to some clean air bill that has bugger all to do with cars but a lot to do with the shit that comes from public transport and trucks. They also put more buses on the roads - Liverpool now has those 'orribly dangerous bendy buses in some areas, and the buses are empty but belching soot and shit everywhere.

Posted

Morrison's will be clawing some of their 15p-off-a-litre offer back by unslamming the price of LPG - don't sweat it, it's just money grabbing!

Are there no independants around you HI?

Posted

LPG prices are on the up because they're correlated with those of oil, which has been creeping up for most of 2012. Of course, the lack of competition in many places means that they 'll always try a bigger increase on before the market readjusts, and Morrisons have to make up for the 15p offer, too.

The BP station on the Nottingham ring road was selling it for 84.9ppl this morning!

Late for a lecture because of the fucking inspired decision to start road works during the rush hour. Traffic's been bottlenecked down to one lane down Chester Road and has blocked everything back as far as bloody Timperley.

It took ten bastard minutes to get on to Manchester Road from Stamford Brook Road - the bit near South Trafford College where my bouncy test track spits you out.

Cue some truly suicidal lane changes from the office folk rowing frantically through the melee. Some little beanie wearing shit in an 02 plate Polo cut in front of me at the very last minute because he realised the traffic was turning right causing me to kick my ABS in hard. Not impressed.

Get round aforementioned twat boy and try to make some progress past The Pelican - only to have to stop dead because a woman driving a Renault Espace was completely on my side of the road, but going in the opposite direction. Would she move? Would she FUCK. Would anyone let me in the inside? Would they bollocks.

Eventually a minute or so of expletive filled screaming got her to move back on to her side of the road - by reversing to slot back in.

Some people shouldn't be allowed licenses.

I'll go in at the coffee break. One sarky quip from my lecturer after a 6 am training session at work and I'd probably rip off his head and shit down his throat.

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WALL! Love what you've done with the place! Step out in front of that '02 Polo for me, will ya?

Posted

So it might just be my local one? Mine was 67.9 last week. Will have a look elsewhere. I have been using Morrisons as its just a mile away from my house. There is an Asda nearby too but will look online for any others that might be near.

Posted

LPG went up here last week, it's now 76p a litre up from 72p.A mile away but on the main road it's 83p at Shell. So where I go in a village the price has gone up 4p per litre yet on the A15 the price rise is 7p.

Anyone know how many litres in a big 47Kg calor gas bottle ?

Fuck you, McAfee*. Stop making my netbook run like shit. Stop acting like the virus you claim to protect against. Uninstall or I'll go to the registry and tear you out.

What scare mongering shitbags McAfee are. It took 20 minutes to uninstall after all manner of dire 'Your Computer Is At Risk' type warnings and OMG YOU HAF NO ANTI VIRUS UR COMPOOTER IZ GONNA DY' protestations.

Avast all the way, bitches.

*It came with my netbook and with the license nearly expired (and it summarily failing spectacularly to detect two shite viruses off the Uni network that fucked my coursework up) I gave McAfee its marching orders after failing to remove it with the license 'in force'.

MCAfee has a mahoosive overhead, and if you're running it on a netbook, I'm amazed the things runs at all. Netbooks usually come with a mingebag amount of RAM, and McAfee and Norton OM NOM NOM a goodly chunk of it. Get McAfee OFF TO FUCK, and download Microsoft Security Essentials (free and works well with small overhead.)

Linky

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/de ... px?id=5201

Download the one called "enus\x86\mseinstall.exe"

Edited to add: Make sure you sack off ALL of McAfee. Have a look in C:\Program Files\ after you uninstall, and delete any McAfee folders. Then, using the windows key+R, type in "%temp%" (no quotes) and delete all files. There'll be at least one file that it won't let you delete, just skip it/them.

macfee is just shite, delete it ASAP

its uneccessary overkill

Mine has 1GB, and it's only recently that it's started to really ping like a twat and slow down. I've done lots of audio editing with it and it talks just fine to my Tascam DR 100. I can play 720p films on it and it runs all my MAME shite with ease.

I'm just going to run with Avast, Windows Defender and Glary Utilities to clean up any shite from now on.

McAfee is well and truly binned.

Er, should there be 309 things wrong with the registry?

Got GIMP 2 running on the netbook a while ago, too. Did all of the Swedish shite spots on it.

And the Volvo Forum Mong Brigade strikes again.

I have a 120 \ 140 series centre console for sale. It's got a few cracks but they're known for doing that and it's otherwise pretty good. Mint ones go for £100 plus. I wanted £70 posted for mine.

Got this today via my gmail account:

Hi looking at your centre consul. I am interested. But due to the extent of the damage that has to be repaired. Would not want to Pay the price. That you are offering. Would you accept a offer of £20-00 for it. I know its a bit cheeky BUT ?. (personal details removed)

Bear in mind the next email I received was from another bloke who'd been in touch wanting to give me the full asking price.

Here's my lovely reply:

I've had a think, and reckon you're taking the piss. You make it sound as if I've pulled it out of a swamp, which I haven't. That's less than half what I'm asking. Do you think I'm fucking insane?

That's a 'no' then, and yeah, I do think it's cheeky. 'BUT' nothing. Would you accept £20 for it? Would you? Yeah, bollocks you would. I've seen truly battered ones go for more than I want for mine.

Best of luck finding one for that money - I can tell you now they don't exist.

You do realise I've got someone else wanting to give me full price for it, right? It must be a right piece of shit with a massive amount of damage - or not.

Random Capitals,

Jon.

PS: A Consul is a Ford.

This could be a good 10 screens full of moaning about how the NHS treats elderies* and how fucking arrogant consultants are, but seeing as I'm here to winge about them they must be doing sommat right.

Short story: Working nights friday night, got some funny chest pains about 5am, finished shift at 7 and decided to drive to hospital first just so they could check me out, pat me on the head and send me home to bed. Got out Sunday afternoon, full of holes with no moe a clue what was up with me than when I went in. First two doctors were concerned and mentioned irregular ecg and a few other things. Had to stay in overnight as no consultants working sat PM  , consultant turned up without reading my notes and said "you're too young to have a heart problem" and sent me on my way. Other doctor was with him who'd seen the irregularities on ecg and asked him about that and consultant smiled at me and said "I'm the heart doctor, not him" and that was that.

Does my head in.

I was in hospital a few days 3 or 4 years back, and it was the exactly same story. The night I was taken in they actually phoned mrs_tone and told her to say what she needed to, I probbaly won't last the night (she of course told me this on the phone, which I don't think was what they meant!). They let me out after a very unpleasant few days with no idea at all what was up with me. ("A virus" was the best I got) And I was back in within a day cos I got some horrendous hospital infection. Urgh.

Lot of old shite. I'm feeling fine now, anyway, so sod it. Back to work Thursday.

*turns out everyone on the cardiac ward (apart from me) is 80+ and to say they don't get the attention they deserve doesn't come close. Was quite upsetting.

South East drought order.

What have they done with all the water I have saved them over the last twenty years by religiously turning off the tap whilst I cleaned my teeth.

On the elderly, there's a whole side issue of those who should be allowed to clog pop quietly at home as opposed to having their lives extended for a couple of weeks in hospital but on the way most of the elderly are treated it's appaulling. I'm not man of rash decisions but if I ever saw the consultant who "looked after" my grandfather I'd make sure the smug prick knew about it, the surgeon who had to perform the pointless operation came up to my mum and apologised (he wasn't responsible and didn't need to) whereas the person incharge, who touts himself as an expert on the elderly according to his internet page never said a word and merely looked smug when he found out he was off the hook.... GRRR.

Anyways my other grump is the facebook page for classic car scrapyard finds where a picture of rotting hillman minx parked on a street in Glasgow, from memory there are other pictures and it is advertising a scrapyard or somesuch. Any how somebody put underneath the picture:

"thats begging 4 someone to remove it"

then

"good banger in a pre 68 meetying"

then

"if it was down in the south it wud have been gone buy now""

I hate theft of all kinds and that reads to me as him saying that this car, because it looks abandoned by the side of the road is requesting to be "removed" and "raced" and it is acceptable practice down south, which it quite obviously isn't. That and, I know I'm guilty of this repeatedly, he has murdered the english language in the process of his speech. Maybe he didn't mean it that way and I've got him wrong but it doesn't strike me that he preaches a particularly honest message.

Final grump Facebook's new timelines, you can't partake in the only reason why facebook was worth the hassle.

Seems to me Pre-68 isn't "banger" territory anyway, and hasn't been for at least 15 years. Pre-68 is firmly "classic". Banger racing is a fine enough idea if the cars are genuine bangers, ie several years short of being even starter classics, but several weeks of welding short of passing their next MoT. You can't tell me any Pre-68 car is short of classic status. If it qualifies for free tax, it shouldn't be on the track. Simple.

And as for treatment of the elderly.... having nursed my parents and in-laws to the end, don't let me get started!

This is the beast in question, although it doesn't show up on Google Streetview: it was pointed out ot me that Streetview was probably done in 2009, but that's a lot of crud to have built up even in Clydebank. Bing maps doesn't have the building behind it on aerial view, but does have the building on Bird's Eye view. Perhaps, we need Mr Studebaker Hawk to take a shufty, please?

That's been sitting there for a couple of years now, and does indeed 'belong' to a scrappy. There is sometimes a van parked beside it with the scrapper's number on it. I'm utterly amazed it hasn't been touched in all that time, it even has all its windows intact!

It's still there. My pal stays about 200 yards down the road from it.
