My son was at work today and enjoyed spending his dinner with the stray kitten that's taken up residence. Fat fowrad two hours and a some 'stupid fat cow' came in asking for a box. When me laddo asked why she said (laughing at the same time) that she'd 'just run over a cat, but never mind'.

I meet such "experts" frequently in my field, including a chap (yesterday) who thought thait this was an accepted way to fit a network card

Oh FFS that network card is class. Some folk just can't leave things along. My mates Dad used to remove things from the engines of his car and file bits down, hammer things flat etc with no knowledge of what he was doing then be surprised that not only did it not work better it didn't work at all.

It was all going a bit mad in here, but I like Norm. He made me laugh. Now he's gone this place has lost yet another little bit of comedy genius.

 

I do understand why he was terminated, but there are others who are far more worthy contenders for the boot than Norm.

This place is beginning to fuck me off lately. Norm's booting was done for honest reasons (nothing to do with me, but I know what happened and do understand why), but he was the least of this place's problems.

 

In the last week or so I've been seriously considering flogging all my tat (other than the XJ, obviously) and just buying a Focus. Spending too much time on t'interwebz hoping something cheerful will happen but it's not happening. A bout of "Worst" threads hasn't done the place any good, Norm being booted, Barrett posting all his good stuff on the other site instead of here - and I refuse on principle to join MS as although there are a few good posters on there, Pog for example, I don't like the strict 'no fun' rule regarding anything not car related.

 

In fact, I think I will flog all my shite and give forums a miss.

I agree with this. I am not comfortable with the whole thing, despite me telling him to STFU - I knew where the subject line was going to be heading and was too ill and tired at the time to be more eloquent - perhaps I should have just said "don't start". He had a lot of interesting auto-related stuff to share with us, I just wish that he hadn't been so overly keen on sharing the other stuff with us quite so often! I do miss him and his auto-related nonsense.

More or less my exact reasons for not joining Moto-Scat. I was quite tempted after Stoneleigh, and after reading a lot of Barrett's posts one day as a lurker when feeling ill (I've been ill a lot recently). The reasons for it existing and the person who runs it are still at the front of my mind and for that reason I won't take part. I'll just bob on here when I feel like it and stay out of the majority of negative threads. Worryingly, I'm beginning to sound like an RR mod, and that's something I never thought would happen. So many decent posters are on MS now it's almost a joke. Our loss is Len's gain.

My forum usage is down at the moment. Well, more precisely I read but don't contribute as much. I'd rather add content to my car magazine blog (which I've started working on again) and fiddle with my tat. I didn't agree with Norm being booted and think he'd be pleasantly surprised by how many people have come out in support.

 

I have nothing against Autoshite, I just feel that it gets dragged off topic too easily and that people are way too volatile (yes, I did just type that) over the slightest infraction. There are still signs of brilliance now and again - the spotting threads posted by Vin and Trig are exactly the sort of thing AS needs.

I didn't understand why he had a problem with you either DW, and yes - he did get waylaid far too easily. The irony is, if he'd stuck to what he'd actually done in the past that was car related - i.e. a shitload - people would have thought far more highly of him.

When he first joined i tried to point out that norm was a shitemeister, running and owning capris and a shelby horizon, trading in shite parts and driving professionally. However, after getting flamed for sticking up for him, i shut up.

No idea what MS is like, as good as some of it's contributors are there are one or two dummy spitters on there who I'm glad to see the back of if truth be told.

This isn't aimed at you Pete, but people who stamp their feet, cry and moan and then go into some thousand word rant about how crap a forum is and they're 'off and will never return' do my box in. If you don't like a forum or the people on it get on your tits then just log off and get on with it. Little snipes, big bitching sessions, efforts to destroy the place you're leaving etc is just incredibly sad. The cynic in me suggests that some people that do this are just after people begging them to stay to massage their ego a bit.

 

YES, it IS a shame when quality members take their posts elsewhere and I suspect if we sat down and typed a list of those missing in action it'd make worrying reading. Those who upsticked to set up their own forum then came back on here to stir things up and bang on about how good their place is can go suck alsation knob as far as I'm concerned though.

Frankly A5, that was Trigger's problem. It was between Trig and Norm. Norm wasn't perfect and his tendency to rant about governmental issues was fucking annoying. Underneath all that he was a top bloke and that's why it was a shame he was chucked. Like Pete I understand the reasons for his removal, I just wish Norm had had more of a say in it rather than the mods arbitrarily kicking him through the door because a few people complained. I thought it was a two way dialogue. Clearly it isn't. Could the mods not have had a 'quick word in the shell, like' and asked him to reign in the OT comments other than by PM or in the GOM thread? I remember Norm asking several times for OT debates to continue by PM rather than clogging the main board up.
