Is there a full car list out yet? If so is there anything of shite interest?

Every variant of the T11 Stanza is in it, even ones which are just trim-spec changes. You can even download a further pack of dealer special editions.

Where can you download from?

Posted

You have to dial in directly with the PS3 16K "Fastcard" modem, it's a premium line, the download takes about three hours as there's a lot to get through.

USB drives are getting on my tits today.

I JUST WANT TO PUT SOME FUCKING FILES ON MY FUCKING USB DRIVE WINDOWS 7, WHY ARE YOU BEING SUCH A PAIN IN THE ARSE?

My USB drive isn't 'broken', the drivers aren't 'missing', and they're certainly not 'write protected' (I have never put any kind of write protection on the stupid thing which works perfectly in every other machine I've tried it with bar Windows fucking seven).

Story goes like this:

1. Insert USB drive in machine.

2. Machine complains its arse off because it can't find the drivers

3. Try to format drive.

4. Cannot format drive because of 'write protection'. What write protection.

AAAAAAARGH.

The thing is I quite like Windows 7. Other than it behaving like a stroppy little shit when it comes to reading peripherals.

I'll dig the laptop out and see how I go, otherwise it'll be down to Tossco for a USB stick, and never letting out of my sight from here on in. They're like gold dust at home.

Fatha_Wat had a huge pile of them, and has now either thrown them away or hidden them. Grizz from RR gave me one that was some kind of pharmaceutical give away, but it has some ghey Imation copy protection on it and I wasn't given the default password.

Download some sort of linux live cd, use the gparted utility that always comes with it to format your drives. You can nuke the iomega thing with it too ;)

Started work again this morning (second time as when I went at the start of the month it wasn't finished being fitted out).

It's still not finished ffs.

No one bothered to tell me of course but the manager was there this time and said I could start anyway.

So I've been sweeping around the fitters all morning as there nothing there to clean stuff with...

So until the cleaning stuff turns up I'm taking a bucket and a few rags tomorrow so I can at least keep busy wiping stuff off, it's seriously boring working when there's no actual work.

I found out yesterday that the nice old bloke who used to mend my cars passed away on Thursday. :(

Citroën guru, racer and all round good guy Graham Harper R.I.P.

He'd been having chemo for a while, but it finally got him.

But not until he'd managed to do another of his beloved Citroën 2CV 24hour races at Snetterton in August.

I know j-j with the CX on here knew him, maybe others did too.

A true gent. :(

Sold Carlsson back at begining of August. Filled in V5 sent it off. Get a letter today saying that the DVLA are fining me £55 because they didnt receive notice of it. I posted it. What do they want me to do? Send it in triplicate? Tattoo it on the post masters head. They can bugger right off. Why would I give them £55 ?

Ah, but did you get a letter back from them saying that they'd received the V5? Cos if not, you should've phoned them at the time and told them that they hadn't sent their letter to tell you that you'd sent your letter.

Trust me, they WON'T drop it, they'll just keep increasing the penalty until you owe them eleventy billion pounds. Because they can. That simple.

Posted

Did you send it 1st class? If you can prove you did then legally you have no responsibility after it was posted

Posted

The only way round it is to send ALL logbooks to DVLA via recorded delivery. It'll increase their workload massively, but then if they weren't such complete twats about fining people at every possible opportunity it wouldn't be an issue.

Posted

The good thing about recorded delivery is that it only costs something like 60p extra.

Posted

I thought there'd be a ruling that it wasn't your responsibility whether they received it or not though I suppose you need at least a proof of posting for that?

edit: Which is what N.Creep already said /\

Posted

Dont think that I got a letter from them, had loads on and it wouldnt have cross my mind. Didnt even think about phoning them. Never had to do it first. Got no proof of postage.

Do you reckon it is just worth paying it? It is £35 now but goes up to £55 in about 3 weeks.

Posted

Ah, but if the rozzers send you a fine through the post and Royal Mail lose it it still counts as "issued", it doesn't matter if you received it or not.

I'd imagine the DVLA did receive the V5c but lost it in their internal system. Seems quite common. Bunch of useless twats.

I tried that with one of my cars, a couple of years ago, and went to the local DVLA office to argue with someone in person - they seriously don't want to know unless you can produce their letter of receipt, after all you can only prove you sent something to them, the contents of the envelope aren't recorded. I even thought of 'doctoring' another receipt letter that I'd had from them for another car, but they all have weird scan-codes at the top, which I doubt you could figure out.

Honestly, you'd be saving yourself money and stress by just gritting your teeth and paying the £35 now.

£80 fine with threats of CCJs for me, despite having the letter stating that they did recieve the V5. Hmmm!

How exactly did they reason that out? The guy in my local office was talking as if 'the letter' was some kind of sacred relic ffs.

'Limited to 70 mph' stickers on the back of vans... WTF is that about? Aren't all vehicles?

Boiler has packed up again....

We have a Potterton Profile 50e boiler and it packed up on Friday, fan working and ignition spark but not firing up.

The British Gas engineer came saturday and said it was the gas valve (but he had never known one needing changing in 30 years) and said he would be back today.

So he comes back today, says they have sent the wrong valve (but there is a mistake on the part number so not his fault) but he also had a valve control board (small black circuit board) so changed that and the boiler worked again - great.

Forward 5 hours to this evening and it has stopped working again....with exactly the same symptoms.

So, I guess there is another fault causing the board to trip out but every time the Britsih Gas blokes are here they are always banging on about it being hard to get parts for older boilers. I've looked on line and the bits are not hard to find.

I'm concerned they are going to say it can't be fixed and we need a new boiler so what do I do? It will probably be a different bloke tomorrow so it will be start again form scratch. needs to get part, back wednesday etc.

DVL flippin A............

Same thing happend to me once, I sold a Rover 827, sent the logbook etc.... A letter dropped in from the DEE-VEE-EL-AY wanting to fine me £80 and so on a day before I was due to go abroad. I couldnt find the letter of reciept anywhere and was running out of time.

Whilst abroad, I phoned thier customer services a few times, they didnt want to know. Desperately I consulted the interweb for advice and found an address of some high-up in the DVLA, wrote a stern letter explaining my circumstances, that I had followed all the procedures and telling them I was not going to be held responsible for thier mistakes.

When I got back to England a few months later, I found the letter of reciept and filed it away safely in case of any further problems.

Not heard anything since.

Presumably they are electronically limited, not legally or morally.

My work van has a "Limited to 56" sticker which is bollocks.

It'll do 59! :-)
