Meccano. In particular their ducati.

It would be easier to restore one than complete meccano's offering.

Found something worse than badger toilet paper , raindeer decorated  Xmas toilet paper , comes off liked rolled corrugated cardboard , sand papers your ring piece and floats like the Titanic should have .  Only a few sheets left , would better used in the bottom of a bird cage ...

Yet more 'accidental' catching of foxes from those genuine* trail hunting wankers. These inbred, web toed cunts aren't going to stop whilst a blind eye is being turned to them.

Looks like you're not the only one having problems with these headphones... and Sony's 'you must have smashed them, you hamfist' seems to be their default position.

Mine are the individual Bluetooth ones

I'm waiting for a reply , they say they don't sell just one but want me to send it back

I think I'm on a hiding to nothing even if they offer to "repair" the lost one by replacing it for an out of warranty charge , they're £220 on the sony website , £139 in Costco so I might as well buy another pair as £110 for one

House insurance is taking the piss now , £539 they want , they can fuck off with that

AA last week , renewal was £331 so I rang up to fuck them off , a bit of to and fro and it's £180

Now remember, I'd gone to the far side where there were dozens of spaces, bags of room either side and in front of me. After the first abortive attempt at parking, he pulled out and had another crack. Nope, no good. The third attempt saw him reasonably straight, but he'd backed up close to my car by then, and I've got a long necked towbar sticking out. He didn't hit it though. He then opened the boot of his car and struggled to get a wheelchair out. And I say struggled because he'd come so close to my motor. While he was doing this, he was grumbling away and regularly looking in my back window. I could almost feel him thinking 'why don't you move'. Anyway, he finally got the chair out, then his missus and went tootling off to the hospital.

It was a real 'why the fuck did he do that' moment and had me scratching my head.  One place to the left or right of me and he'd have had no problems at all, because all around me was an ocean of space. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen that particular car park so empty. Why???

He was pissed off because you were parked in "his" disabled space,  some people are just so cheesed off with life they go out of their way to make it as difficult as possible just so they've got something else to moan about.

I'll put this in the grumpy thread because I don't really know where else to put it. Have we got a 'why the fuck did he/she do that', head scratching thread?

Last Sunday, Mrs Tet injured her right eye. Apparently, she caught it with a fingernail. Neither of us realised how bad it was at the time, and we both thought it would clear itself up later that day. It didn't. Monday morning saw it worse and her eye looked like she'd gone ten rounds with Tyson Fury. So, over to A&E at Queens Hospital, Romford. I dropped her off and went to the car park. I was well into my second 2 hour ticket when I got the call to meet her at the main entrance. She came out carrying a couple of Costas, which was bloody welcome at the time.

In front of the hospital, as well as pick up points, there's another car park, but it's exclusively for disabled. It's pretty bloody big. and last Monday, it was reasonably empty.. so I drove to the far side where there was most room and stopped in a bay where could enjoy our coffees. Something caught my eye, (no pun intended). There was a fairly new Fiesta backing up to the rear of my car, and making a piss poor job of it too, he was coming in at a 45 degree angle. Now remember, I'd gone to the far side where there were dozens of spaces, bags of room either side and in front of me. Mrs Tet had scratched the cornea of her eye badly. She's on eight eye drops and day, which I've been administering. Pleased to report it's now clearing up, although she is still getting the occasional belt from it.

First point.    Are you or your wife disabled, and in possession of a badge?  If not your rant is irrelevant  as  you had no right to be there.

Lets assume you have a badge,

You parked out of the way.  He had a fairly new Fiesta (probably Motability) , so he also parked out of the way, in his head.

He had a few goes at getting straight, don't we all at times?

You have a long necked towbar. I've had a few, they are a pain, always banging your legs on them.

He had to lift a wheelchair out.  Hardly a crime.

You seem to think because the car park was almost empty your bit belonged to you, in the same way as he thought it belonged to him.

Your wife scratched her eye. The guys sorting a wheelchair for his wife who can't walk well.

It happened last Monday! That's a week ago, get over it.

For the record, I am slightly biased,  My wife died  2 years ago this Xmas, I unloaded and pushed her wheelchair for 20 years.

It's not always fun, but it's worse when you can't.

Oh FFS, I do sympathise with your loss, but every fucking time I post something on here, someone comes on and attacks me. This is why I rarely post on here now. Last week it was about a light fitting where a member said I didn't have a clue what I was doing. How does he know? Before that, it was my Merc thread, which I dumped entirely because of the sarcasm and vitriol I was getting. And yes, I sold the Merc to a RR member. A painless sale and he collected it the day I needed it to go. I think I'll just be a lurker from now on. Not worth posting anything on here now.

For the record I thought his original post was wondering why the other gentleman had apparently gone out of his way to make his own life difficult and then somehow implied it was the posters fault.

I understand the frustration of manhandling wheels chairs, kids buggys or mobility scooters.

Why would you reverse into a space if that's what you needed to do?

Peace on earth, goodwill to all men and all that.....

why does this country always flood at the first sign of a any old  storm ?

I do wonder if we would need waders and gills after a really proper prolonged bashing off the heavens .

Tetleysmooth, if you parked in a disabled space without the badge you're in the wrong. It's black and white, no one is picking on you.

My mother in law is in a wheelchair and every day peoples thoughtless actions make her, and her carers life a little difficult. It doesn't sound like you where really impacting on the Fiesta driver directly, but the poor man shall be worn down from being a carer in a society that neither cares or makes an effort to accommodate him.

I don't know what area you're in, but where I lived previously it was usually because of undredged rivers, overgrown ditches and the like. Or, if you wish to be cynical, a short-sighted attempt to save a few quid by the council.

There’s a difference between parking in a disabled space and parking in an almost empty car park while you sit in your car

the bloke was being a twat , deliberately making his life difficult so he could moan about it , why else would he not park in the next space and make his life easy.

I’ve  never parked in a disabled space in my life but stopping in an empty car park for 10 minutes while I’m sat in the car , I don’t see a problem with that

Jesus no one got hurt, let Tetley man have his rant.

Anyway my slight gripe:

I walk doggo through a small village, and have noticed for a few months a lovely classic that has been left in a random road, so I kind of make a point of going that way just to see how it is.

Todays visit shows someone has popped the passenger window, Why !?.

It'll be taken for scrap soon no doubt, sad really. And no its not a LDV with curtains / Escort Cosworth etc

As someone who works in flood risk management you may be interested to know that the responsibility for maintaining watercourses rests with the riparian owner. This would only be the council where they own the land through which the watercourses runs. If you own land on one side you are responsible for it up to the middle. Maintenance should only be done outside such periods where it will not affect fish spawning/bird nesting/etc. (No it doesn't leave much time)

Any drainage system will have a maximum capacity, once that is exceeded you will get flooding.

Yes, this. And as areas get more built-up, older drainage systems become quickly overwhelmed.

Round here there's been a trend for older houses with large gardens being bought up by developers, and bulldozed to build forty-odd shoebox apartments plus carpark.

But the developer rarely does much to upgrade the drainage system where it leaves the development, so there's inevitably massively more waste water trying to enter the sewerage network than previously - so the pipes are permanently carrying more than the estimated baseline flow (also those sodding wet wipes that clog everything).

Also, if you consider the amount of rainfall that previously would have been soaked up by lawns and gravel drives but now runs straight off the tarmac down the drain, it doesn't take much of a cloudburst to suddenly push the drain system way beyond capacity in a matter of minutes.

One solution is installing proper storm drains, as other countries do, but that would be very expensive and extremely disruptive. At the minute, it's easier (cheaper) for water companies to deal with local flooding as and when, than invest properly in infrastructure and rebuild the network from scratch to deal with the ever-increasing pressure on the waste network.
