I was at a 3 hour Machine Head gig a few months ago and used some earplugs, and they worked a treat. It blocks just enough for you to hear it (better some would say) and no headaches after.

Oh jeepers. I went to a Machine Head gig 18 years ago! It did take two days for my ears to stop ringing. Pretty sure that damaged my hearing for good. The 2CV did the rest of the damage. Too late, I've resorted to those ear filter plug things to stop it getting any worse. Must remember them when I take the Invacar to Brum...

I went to a Noel Redding gig about 15 years ago and couldn't hear properly until the morning of the second day.I'm sure that's what started my tinnitus. It's not even like he had a good voice.

looks like the new smart motorway "lane closed" system is working well or is this just a London ME ME ME thing

M25 this morning, not my footage , every one of those cunts should have 3 points now and it should be on the news so dickheads know what the red X means

I would like to get some calendars made up. I thought it might be nice to try and use a small company rather than CORPORATE BIG BUSINESS, but so far, it's been a complete and utter nightmare. One company sent me a demo that looked half-arsed even by HubNut standards, while several others have promised loads, taken money and then had design systems that are UTTER ARSE and refuse to accept any of my images. Try customer services, and you quickly discover that the friendly little company presented via the website is actually CORPORATE BIG BUSINESS in some bloody foreign country where they don't understand anything at all.

So I went to a local printer (by local, I mean a 40-minute drive away). They designed something that looked like a child had done it. Hopeless.

It's going to be bloody Vistaprint isn't it?

I'd use Powerpoint and then send it to a local firm.

Tried a company called webmart? Their in bicester, we use them at work alot

The Red x was around in the seventies - it's only recently that it's become more significant with smart motorways.  I will state again that I suspect the fact so many people are ignorant of the meaning of the red X is due to the fact that significant numbers of people don't hold a legit licence to drive.

Actually I concede that there has to be an element of that culture of "me first, me only (there's no such thing as society)" that's been popular since the late 70s as well.

The roads are overcrowded too - and I admit I am part of the problem.

Also, we have all seen random spurious indications from the matrix signs which I suppose breeds a certain mistrust.

I still think there are more people than we realise driving without a valid licence (and or eyesight impairment) - and I categorically am not making a veiled racist/xenophobic allegation as I don't think it applies to any particular demographic.

Again, having just  done a Speed Awareness Course (which involves an element of knowledge-testing by the lecturers) I was not really surprised at some of the basic lack of knowledge around the room - some of it from professional (in the sense of doing it for a living) drivers.

On the hearing thing - I saw the Monster trucks that toured Europe - thought I'd get a good decent view and seat for myself and munchkin..... Bing caring dad I bought minime ear defenders...... wish I'd had the sense to grab some. Bloody hell are they loud! You can literally feel your skin tingling and blood fizzing from them. It was honestly jaw dropping......

Couldn't hear properly for at least 3 days..... think I damaged the right one.

Indeed. I'm surprised by the assertion that crap driving must be down to people who don't have a licence. I know plenty of people that I feel shouldn't have one, yet they somehow do. Probably because you're tested once and then sent on your way.

I'm cold, I'm working next to a central heating boiler that's heating the rest of the house which is making me feel colder.

I have the oldest van by several decades amongst the people I'm working with, I don't need a week off work once a year because of a failed mot.

If I say I'll be somewhere on Tuesday I will actually be there, why is this so hard for people to grasp, if I've got an issue I'll ring and let someone know not wait until I'm chased.

TLDR people grrr!

That is piss-poor design on Facebook's part. If you click "ask seller for details" it just sends this message, you get no opportunity to edit it.

I always send a follow-up message too, mind you.

Yup - and to be fair - I usually want to ask is it is STILL available..... sods law - the one thing I REALLY want has just been sold....

I've sent loads of those messages on my phone, your finger touches the wrong part of the screen and it's gone

reminds me of a conversation I had with Zel last time I went down to his place

the gist of it was, the saying "they dont make em like they used to" also applies to driving tests

apparently the driving test these days has gotten much easier then it was in the past

(and speaking of tinnitus my brother tried cooking again which set off all 4 of the smoke alarms in the house...)

Nice to see you going the extra mile to ensure that it's as awkward as possible to recycle anything large or bulky in your area.

I already avoid the Newport Pagnell site like the plague as it's been an utter zoo on the couple of times I was there and there was crap all over the vehicle area. At least they seem to do a decent job of keeping puncture fodder off the road at New Bradwell.

Wouldn't grump quite so much if the area didn't already have such a *horrendous* problem with fly tipping.

What a dump!

Car insurance!

How come in the few weeks I've had the Jag the cost of a years renewal has gone up by about £80? That's without mentioning the points on their way so it's just the price changing to a rip off.

Aye to Santa Pod...we were seated just up from there last time we were there.

Even with decent over-ear protectors, first Top Fuel dragster to go up still scared the hell out of us, even with the protectors on it was fluffing loud and literally knocked the breath out of us when it took off up the strip.

Can't imagine being there without ear protectors!

Took part in a RWYB at Santa Pod in the 2CV. They did some occasional runs with top fuellers. Can pretty confidently say I've never heard volume like that. Noise you felt in your lungs.

when I was about 14 my dad had a stall at a country fair, there was a spitfire there, after the public had gone the pilot got in it to take off down a dirt road between an avenue of trees

I'd taken my camera because I knew it was going to be there, I got behind it crouching down to get a good shot , it was just ticking over then he gave it full power and I went arse over tit behind it

That was it - having 10 (or 12?) of them rolling around in front of you and blatting the throttles....... it just pulsed! I was like a kid in a candy shop (a temporarily deaf one admittedly)....

Realised - none of the above is a grump in the slightest......

Fair points, well made - it's just one of my crackpot theories.

Please, PLEASE,  can I have a whinge/grump about the twat with the Collie? I know Alcyone cororation will complain (and rightly so) but if I don't vent on here, I am going to do bloody murders!

I have never known such an ineffectual, slow, repetitive, dozy cunt in my life! And I hate using 'that' word. He seems to think that because when he got Besse '3' he worked on a farm and just let her do her own thing all day from being a small puppy, it will be fine to do the same with the new Besse(4). It really is not! He lets her go up the lane without a lead, she runs over the road and gets to us asap. There is traffic on this road....he never puts her on a lead and then just shouts at her for being in the road, he has less clue about raising a young pup than I do about raising the bank of England base rate. She ran after a kid at the park, jumping up at it, he shouted but didn't move an inch. I shouted like I meant it and she came to me straight away. I then sat her down and taught her to sit, stay and give a paw. The little sod is so smart she got all three in about 5 minutes and remembered from then on.

I want to strangle the fucker!

But, if I do (or rather just tell him to sod off) then the dog won't get out at all and I would feel guilty.

Thank you for the opportunity to vent :) I feel much better now.

Was rather abruptly woken up by the house alarm this morning. Entered in code, loft keypad in tamper. Everyone else wanted to sleep so stuck it in engineer's mode, took out fuse and yanked out the battery. Yet another thing to fix now.

One of the most annoying things in the world is seeing an animal with a bad owner. Especially when it means the animal might get injured by running in a road etc.
