The grumpy thread

Sorry for my rant before. :(

Last day at work tomorrow - redundancy looms. Feeling a little apprehensive, I've been working for the same firm for the last 12 or so years.

I've never worked anywhere longer than 2.5 years. It can be scary but it's also a chance to try something else. Hopefully you'll get a good redundancy package after so long, so that should take the sting out of it and allow time to find something that suits. Best of luck!

Peugeot - congratulations on your 200th anniversary as a company, however it's been reported you intend to release this hideous looking pos next year, may I suggest you employ proper car designers, and not use drawings made by five year olds.

I thought car designers were supposed to make cars look like they're moving while standing still? That'll look like its just screeched to a halt even when its rolling....

Not a grump, but abit of a worry

Interest in my cars is rising .... :(

1) Letter through the door offering money for the Mk1

2) Pikey door bashing followed by "I'll take it away right now"

3) Random chavs "yeah i do racing mate yeah, be perfect for racing"

I need to build a garage

Shit.

Have you baled the Mk 3 yet? I'm hoping you haven't because if they have to drag that out of the way to get to the Mk 1 they'll have to make some noise doing so and in turn wake you up (as you're at the front of the house). Hopefully in doing so they'll wake up your Slovak friends across the road as well.

I really would suggest sinking that post you mentioned into the ground or clamping the Mk 1, anything that would wake you up if the little scrotes tried to drag it off the drive. At least with your dad's car across the outside a Hiab couldn't reach in unless it had a massively long grab. Plus, some quick work with a kitchen knife and it's limp hydraulic extendo cock all round.

If it continues I'm sure I could arrange for it to take a little 'holiday' over to Stockport where it could sit outside at the unit for a bit. Let us know and I shall inform SCTSH_ANDY and Rean of this idea.

How much money did they offer you? Was the letter written in crayon or was it in grown up writing (probation officer)?

People of Essex. I was driving a nice car around the Dagenham area and some bloke just stops in the road next to me, gets out and comes over all: "Faahkin' ell, that's faaahkin laverly. If that was mine, I'd be scared to take it out on the faahkin' road. Faaahkin' gorgeous!"

Now, I'm prone to getting excited about cars, usually quite shoddy ones, but I don't run over to them and start hurling expletives around. Though I imagine doing so at a Rolls-Royce concours could be amusing.

Hey, we're not all like that... ;)

Not yet, it has now been employed as a security device for the Mk1 (i.e : blocking the path)

I'm going to take a trip to Motorvation today and try buy a nice fat chain, then i will chain it to the fence post .. sounds abit drastic, but if my mates Corsa can be stolen in daylight, an no one battered an eye-lid then they may try it around here.

Well the chavs that nocked didn't get chance to say a price, as i pointed out the cameras and told him i have very nosey neighbours... ooh and i said "Not worth buying mate, it can't be moved" .. and fed him aload of bollock.

The letter was "To Red Festa Owner..blah blah.. offer u £100 but c u no haf tax so £80"

In the bin that went.

The Fiesta has to go on Axle stands soon anyway :( .... i'll tell you that story on Saturday

Just been to pick up a big feck off Pifco fan and some other bits. Go to pay and get told that if I want to pay on a credit card its another £1.

Penny pinching bastards.

To top it all I get home and said Pifco Fan is FUBAR and blows circuit breaker on the ring main.

Bastards.

That's actually BREAKIN THA RULEZ on mastercard/visa contract, you can't charge for using credit cards! Can't believe Makro do this?

I know pIkea do this - though its about 50p, but was surprised about Makro imposing this charge.

Emailed Visa Europe and asked them if its right, but I think that they can transfer the merchant charge onto the customer - there was a change in the ruling some years ago.

The charge to the retailer for the card payment is usually a few pence for a debit card, but for some strange reason credit cards are charged as a percentage - therefore on large items the credit card company could be taking a fair few quid from the retailers.

DVLA do -£2 I believe. No charge for debit cards.

I'm grumpy because I would quite like this nice picture of a young lady adjusting the delicate carb setup on her Abarth 2000 with a big fuck-off screwdriver as my desktop background. If I did, however, I would definitely get in trouble with a certain european female who occaisionally comes round my house :(

Ryanair charge about eleventy million quid for paying by credit card - even though there's no other way you can pay. The only card they don't charge for is Visa Electron, which nobody has anyway.

Ahh - according to The Times Switch/Maestro card providers are shortly going to migrate to Visa Debit (the new name for Visa Electron) So that might be Ryan Air stuffed then.

Really? I'd be surprised tbh - I'm sure that Switch / Maestro is part of Mastercard only a debit rather than credit card.

Mastercard do a debit card as well y'know. Loads of M&S online customers use these as well.

Visa Debit (the new name for Visa Electron)

Visa debit cards are what used to be Visa Delta, which was a proper debit card. Visa Electron is (or was when I worked in rental) a machine-use only card, usually issued to young account holders, or those with less than perfect credit ratings.

Went to fill up earlier this evening. As I was doing so a silver Sierra pulled in behind me and a red WRX in the adjacent bay.

Steam was pouring out from under the Subs bonnet so when I'd finished I went to tell the lady driving it.

She was aware of it and apparently unconcerned ("It does that")

This exchange took perhaps 10~15 seconds.

The Sierra driver blew his horn, impatient at being kept waiting :P He must have seen what was wrong!

Concluded the conversation with Ms. WRX and went to pay. That took a fair while as I had to study the goods on sale in the Shell station, in case there may be anything I needed.

Then had on returning to the car to write down the mileage on the receipt, stow that in my wallet, find the keys, adjust the seat, start the engine, fiddle around a bit then finally drive off.

Took some time I can tell you.

I've got a Nat West bank accont with said Nat West Switch/(Austin) Maestro debit card. Said debit card expired about a month ago & the replacement is a Nat West Visa card.

I'd like to point out that this is a fully fledged bank card, not a school leaver/pikey card.

Had my new one quite a while now and never noticed it had changed.

Still haven't signed the damned thing either.

That explains why my mates at college had them. I managed to get an Access card at 16 (fuck knows how, dad made me apply for one thinking it would teach me how to handle credit - WRONG!!!) mind you that was 25 years ago and things might have been different then.

Access + Our Price = Lots of picture discs!

When I opened my first proper bank account I (aged 13 or 14) got a Solo card. They were new at the time and accepted almost nowhere on the high street, although my family got an internet connection in 1999.

Solo + Amazon.co.uk = Lots of CDs and VHS tapes!
