I think the Audi 80 may have fuel pump issues. :-(

I was catastrophically late for work this morning due to most of the roads into Norwich being blocked by a variety of fallen trees, so ended up having to do half a lap of Norfolk to find a way in, then caned the living f*ck out of the Audi down the new (and still nearly empty, despite the chaos elsewhere) northern bypass to get to where I needed to be.

I've never caned it properly before - I've floored the throttle to overtake or pull out onto a busy A-road, but I've never held it to the floor for extended periods, and after a while the power delivery started "pulsing" like it does at idle - hitherto it had always behaved perfectly when under power, it was only at idle and sometimes at initial pull away that it had problems.  I think my hopes of the running issues being caused by air in the system are waning, and I might have to fork out for another pump, which won't be cheap - although it doesn't look like too much of a twat of a job to change.

What makes you think it's the pump? My 3 series has always done this, sometimes though it's not always obvious. This feature* has been with the car whilst I've owned the thing and it's been bugging me for ages...

How did he find out it was bangered?

From what I can gather it was spotted on the back of a beavertail having been in a few fights. Police found the VIN plate in the beavertail owner's house with evidence of other cars stolen.

Keep this particular debate on a reasonable level please, gents.

Yes the repair bill to fix the garage roof could only be a few hundred. Phew!

Oh I dunno, I'm sure from previous posts xtriple has an amazing ability to find a specialist roofer who'd cost at least £10k for the same job.

From what I can gather not enough to prosecute the guy with the beavertail - may have just been innocently taking it to the bridge after the real thieves had finished with it. Sad end to an otherwise nice car.

Not sure what else it could be tbh. I initially thought it was getting air into the system but then I'd expect it to cut out from time to time and it's never done that, it never drops below its normal idle speed even when it's failing to respond to the throttle.  The fuel filter is not old and is a genuine Audi job.  It doesn't smoke or otherwise misbehave, and when it's rolling along at normal speeds it's as smooth as - well, not quite silk, but as smooth as a mid-'90s TDI is ever going to be.  It's only when dragging the car off the line and when being thrashed for extended periods that it misbehaves (apart from the chuggy idle obvs).  It doesn't even play up when pulling away all the time - sometimes it's fine.

Reminds me of Discoveries when the pipes on top of the tank rotted & let it suck air in.

It's frustrating, it's like little background pauses in power, really minor but repeat every .5 of a second whilst booting it. Sometimes no issue at all. I go near the red line on mine most days, but it's a petros and has that DISA valve (I bet it's that *£200 odd) I will find the gremlin... One day...

Flu

I know I’ve not got flu, I’m not even sure I’ve got a cold any more. But my left eye has been bloodshot since Boxing Day, my left ear makes clicking noises when I swallow and my scalp is sore from eyebrow to the back of my head on the left side. Just a big sinus infection but I wish it would go away as I’ve had a headache now for four weeks.

Sounds horrible. My ears have started crunching, horrible sensation.

Antibiotics?

Hope it clears up soon. At least the flu should be reasonably short lived (shouldn't it?!)

It’ll be a virus so antibiotics won’t work. Ibuprofen will hopefully sort out the inflammation and paracetamol the pain. Eventually!

Perhaps it’s a brain tumour! Let’s keep positive :-)

Girl in work comes up to me clutching a motor range folder, she's shitting herself as she signed up for a new car over the weekend and is worrying she's made a mistake financially, 15 reg Kia Soul diesel with near 50k on it and not at all cheap, I told her about DPF's DMf's etc, she does 4k a year round town at most .....I said if you don't feel happy just tell them you want to back out.....she picked it up at 4 pm

I will feedback when it all goes tits up

You have a cooling off period on the finance but you still need to pay the dealer for the car. If the car was 10 grand and she cancels the finance it's unlikely the dealer is going to give you 10 grand back for it.

Dont they just cancel the whole deal if you havent picked it up?

They fucked up my tick on that abomination of a brand new Corsa I had, several times, then wanted me back in to resign docs saying he had made a mistake on one of them and the finance company werent happy and had pulled the finance so I was driving about in a car that hadnt been paid for, I said fine im sick of the hassle with finance stuff, ive had several issues on a car a few weeks old, and the lack of preparation and PDI plus the service ive had from you is shite, I can never get you to phone me back over the missing service book you took off me because the info in it was wrong, one of my number plates is wrecked, etc. etc. and he shat himself saying no dont hand it back, please i'll sort it out and see you alright as long as you come in and resign the finance docs because the dealer principal is giving me grief over it.

I reckon they would cancel the deal if it was obvious it had to be financed as you didnt have the means of paying it outright rather than say 'well youve cancelled the finance but youre still liable for the car cost to us, you could just tell them to shove it, seen it happen before, same way ive seen deals cancelled when a punter fails the chucky. Its not 'you agreed to buy the car, youve failed the finance but youre still liable for buying the car off us because youve signed a purchase order' Even Arnie Shark arent that harsh!

You can cancel before handover but it looks like in this case she’s picked it up.

If it’s the 1.6 diesel it might not even have a DMF or DPF.....

Guy gets caught doing 155 mph on a motorway and ends up with only 9 month ban with £235 fine.

That is insane.

Hardly a deterrent to people doing stupid speeds.

I thought you now had 28 days to return it for whatever reason you want, even just saying you have changed your mind

On the finance I’m pretty sure it doesn’t apply to the purchase itself . You’ve got 2 separate contracts one with the dealer and another with the finance company .

Wanted to see Neil Diamond last october but could'nt afford it.

Now he has retired due due to Parkinson's disease.

In a world of talentless mediocrity we still have a few stars - but their lights are dimming.

I still remember being in my parents car, 1.8 Sierra, towing the caravan to Poole to get a ferry. Tape player ate my fathers Neil Diamond tape, he was raging for days.

28 days is distance buying, not where you go in and purchase something face to face.

Thank you for reminding me of the existence of Tim Westwood.

Didn't someone try to shoot this cunt many years ago. Typical West London, they can't shoot straight for toffee.

Oh yes, gut surgery meds. They do NOT fucking taste like anything they are described as. I would rather be Tim Westwood.
