How's about parking the Rover on your drive then moving it if your mum wants to go out?

That is a cracking diagram, there's a lot of people here who would kill for a garage, I'd certainly make 'converting one' an offence punishable by being forced to live in a flat.

Where we used to live there was communal unmarked parking that originally (before all the 3 bed houses started having 7 rooms to let in them) had at least 8 free spaces every night. This didn't stop arguments over people parking in the wrong 'space' . It would have added a maximum of 60 meters walk to anyone to park on the far side but no, that's just not acceptable in this day and age.

They really should just park further along the road, cretins.

All that damage from cold starting an engine just to move it a few yards, not on a fine vehicle like that rover thank you very much.

If it was so fine, wouldn't it be in the garage? ;-)

Aside the engine flooding comments, this isn't really possible because of the hours I work. I dont use the car for work either.

HTF can they remake a film that's about 5 years old & leave the main character out?

Why would anyone make a remake of 'The Mummy'? It is easily the biggest pile of horse shit I have ever had the misfortune to accidentally point my eyeballs at for 15 mins or so.

Well no, because the answer is that Imhotep is invisible.  Write that down in your copy books now.

If you're going to patronise Starbucks again, you could opt for decaf? If it's Costa however, you're screwed...

I'd have been alright if I could have quaffed it whilst wafting* past swindon, not 50 miles later as I came out of Oxford!

A coal terrace was full of people who went underground to dig out coal.

However, Sinkers Row was built by/and for the guys who dug the shaft down to the coal....

Mondays gone tits up for me already.

As some may know, I work as a lorry driver, via an agency and have worked at the same place for about 20 months or so without issue.

Clocked in at work this morning, first day back after having 3 days off ill last week. I was immediately ushered to the "interview room" with my Agency rep who had magically appeared. The meeting was all very cordial but I was shown pictures of damage to my lorry- a cracked mirror casing and a missing blanking panel in the front bumper (which would've housed a fog light if it were a more upmarket model) Apparently another driver took my truck out on Wednesday last week as I was off work and this was "unreported damage" and obviously very serious.

The mirror was damaged when I was given the truck when I started work 20 months ago. The cover eventually fell off and was reported and replaced but the case is still cracked. Been like that for literally ages, but for some reason they've forgotten about it and rediscovered it as new damage. The missing front panel just vanished one day, reported at the time but nothing was done.

Neither of the above issues went through the official "defect note" route as they should've done as the staff CBA with the paperwork and it's easier to get them sorted in other ways. This is a problem as it doesn't leave a paperwork trail people can refer back to to prove any damage has been reported. Major issues that prevent trucks being used go through the defect note route but other stuff that is classed as minor will "get sorted at service" but rarely does.

On top of that every truck is meant to have 10 straps in the side locker but mine only had 2. WTF?? Where they've gone I've no idea but they were there on Tuesday. Obv i'm somehow getting busted for it.

My load on Tuesday wasn't strapped down, which is a hanging offence. Except I took the straps off in the yard when I got in as the trailer needed to be tipped.  (these are the straps that are presumably missing)

Anyway, I had to give a statement and tell them what I knew, they're going to do a thorough investigation and "let me know" Either today or tomorrow apparently. In the mean time I'm suspended without pay and I don;t know if i'm going to be sacked or not, which is a very real possibility as i'm agency and can be CUL8RD with no warning and without reason.

I'm fucking fuming.

Let me guess its a DHL contract? I worked for them for 6 years and witnessed similar things happen to other drivers. Eventually it became my turn when I was handed a company phone which i promptly handed back as it was non bluetooth and I and them had managed fine for 6 years with just using mine. I was suspended on the spot for refusing a reasonable request. After a month of being suspended, as I'd been forgotten about, i handed my notice in.

I could also mention the DHL zero tolerance to defect rule which was nothing but laughable.

and me - also keeping stuff like tumble dryers in (non-converted ones) should be illegal - nothing without an engine except tools for engine-equipped stuff.

So an XUD-powered tumble dryer would be acceptable then?

Yes, it's DHL. Great job for the past 2 years odd. I've seen various drivers getting stitched up total non events, disappear for a week on suspension, come back and thought that I'd be able to keep my nose clean and my head down and avoid it all. I think eventually, everyone gets suspended at this place.

If I were full time I'd be on full pay right now but as I'm agency I get FA. So when they investigate and realise I haven't actually done anything wrong I've still been "punished" for all my lost pay.

I bet this happens to everyone when they've been there nearly two years? I have a feeling that two years is when agency workers get the same rights as 'real' staff. Coincidence?

You can't be suspended without pay, Tim. Are you in a union (not digging at you if you're not) as they should sort that for you, if nothing else?

Posted

Well, I get around that as I'm not only Agency but I'm my own LTD Co. Many HGV driving jobs are now LTD co only, solely to circumnavigate employment laws and to strip the "employee" or any sort of protection or benefit they may have if they were employed directly. I pay a lot less tax and NI as a result but that doesn't help when you get fired for no reason whatsoever.

Agency and Ltd Co, so effectively a "zero hour" contract. I'm not in a union, and I can't see how they could help me in this situation as I don't actually have any employment rights to fall back on.

Can't you sue yourself as your own MD for loss of earnings? Pay the damages, go bankrupt & stay rich? Or is that just for rich people?

Well, it's a bit of weird set up! I'm "the worker" working for minimum wage for the "the company", which I own, so I suppose I could sue the company for loss of earnings but I'd only be taking money out of the company to pay myself that I'd be taking out later as dividends, which are taxed at a lower rate.

Just had a call back, case dropped, return to work as normal tomorrow.

This has somehow made me more annoyed

None of that applies to me though, I'm a ltd co contractor, if I don't work for whatever reason I don't get paid.
