If so i totally agree, I'm sure you should be allowed to speak your own mind and not be told what to think.

No one's being told what to think  Just where NOT to put their thoughts. Its not hard! I'm amazed at the patience being displayed over there to be honest. Its a right pain in the butt that people think that all of the internet = freedom of speech. Just see some of the dirge that Bo11ox has highlighted on here too. If there's no control (whether by self or enforced) it all ends up an indistinct mess of pointless nonsense where ever you look.

It thinks it's more to do with the way they tell people how to post on there, I don't go on there as much anymore anyway as I'm not sure if I've out grown it or if my tastes have just change.I used to shop in River Island all the time, now i can't even be bother to look in there as most the stuff just looks crap, RR has gone the same way IMHO.Too many people getting half decent old cars, cutting out the springs, chucking paint stripper over the bonnet, Fitting overstretched tyres and then everyone going OMG U R A GOD.Sorry if you think I'm talking Bo11ox but thats just how i feel about it.

The moderators on that site are great for the most part but there are some who clearly see themselves as implementers of the rules. They're like the Highways Agency wombles of the moderating world.

Simply visit a well-known internet forum regarding retro car (hint, it has a blue background) and have a look for a locked thread, on about page 2 or 3.

A fair and valid comment but isn't the whole point of moderating that it's done by moderators? Hell people blow their tops from time to time but if you cilck on that fella's profile/previous posts he appears to have done an inordinate amount of creeping. My point is fair enough make one post if neccessary to highlight a point, but incessant whinging on the open forum just makes things worse and flairs a few people up who weren't involved.Pms would be the best anwer imho so I have done exactly that to the person involved and have received a reply to which I replied to again. Also, to be fair, it wasn't a neccssarily 'idle chit chat' type thread, it involved a car that doesn't even belong to a forum member and it wasn't overly slated anyhow. If Autoshite had rules of no slating of certain cars it would much quieter on here and as long as no-one gets 'personal' I can't see what the fuss is about.

Quieter? You be able to see the tumbleweeds blowing across the forum

The good people of AUTOSHITE are more inclined not to take offence at comments about their car than people on other forums.I have had a massive lob on for a 924 for the last three years and I will get one soon if the funds are permitting and I know I will get a few comments about it being an LT coupe etc on here but I wont take offence 'cos thats part of the fun. I would do it to someone else anyway.

The last time that Icelandic volcano blew up it was going for 2 years apparently!I feel very bad for all the stranded passengers and the certainty of companys going under e.t.c but I think theres something special about looking up into the sky and it being free of jet contrails, just the way it looked 70, 80 or a million years ago.GR8 4 THA BBC 2 FILM PERIOD DRAMAS OUTSIDE.

Now I will agree on this. I live on the flight path for London City Airport and whilst I am an avid planespotter, it is nice to see a clear sky for the first time in about a hundred years or so (no, i'm not that old)Friend of mine got home from Stockholm by buying a Renault Traffic minibus for about a grand out of the swedish free ads, driving back to Calais, selling it for €900 to some french bloke. Top marks for effort there.Does make me laugh when people say "but there's no hire cars left in Spain". Why not buy an early 90's Malaga or (even better) a Renault 14 from Spanish eBay and drive it home before enjoying the worship from all of us at Autoshite - thats what I would do!

RE: RR, Websters describe a 'Forum' as:1 a : the marketplace or public place of an ancient Roman city forming the center of judicial and public business b : a public meeting place for open discussion c : a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideassomeone should probably mention the whole ''open discussion or expression'' bit to those guys, i'm glad i'm not the only one that gets pissed off with all that nonsense. Hence, why I rarely post over there.

That great. I wish that everyone else who gets pissed off with it would do what you do instead if continuing to pollute it. Then we might get somewhere.

Yeah, I've heard similar things. Terrific time to be a cabby or hotelier in Europe.Had planned to fly my wife to Barcelona and drive to Barcelona airport to retrieve her (make a road trip of it). Could probably guarantee someone wants to get from London/Dover to Barcelona who'd be only too happy to get a lift in exchange for petrol money and food. Lets face it, all you need is a sat nav and a half decent motor and people WILL want running to Oslo/Amsterdam/Paris/wherever. Could be a few quid in it shiters?Only let down - Airline wanted 3 grand to fly her to Barcelona from Dallas. One way economy!!!! Two words sprang to mind......

Sorry if you think I'm talking Bo11ox but thats just how i feel about it.

I don't think anyone's outgrown it, I just think it's attracted too many hangers-on who think a beaten-up 106 with Hoodride stickers is pushing the envelope of cool. Many of the members whose posts I used to love reading have quietly disappeared, so there's far less on the main board that interests me anymore.

Having said that, I still love browsing through the Readers Rides section, I guarantee there'll always be genuinely good stuff in there amongst all the bilge. Plus you can always tell how much someone loves/knows about cars by looking at photographic evidence of their 'work'.

In summary, you might want to ignore all the above, as 99% of my posts on there have been inane bollox, contributing nothing to anyone's understanding of the subjects being discussed. I've yet to own a car that's older then me FFS

There are still some really nice stuff in the readers ride section but you have to skip through a lot of modern dross just to find it now, many of the ideas just seem to be repeated all the time and have got boring.I saw a N reg Polo today being driven by a young lad who had painted the wheels black, if you want to stand out why not keep it original as you never see standard Polos any more!.I still don't think it ever got over that OLDSKOOLgate saga the other year, It was handled completely wrong and lost many good posters who's posts and threads i used to love to read. Pog will know what i mean.

2 forum's goosed YAY ! Anyway -I'm grumpy because my phone is sh*t, and the video i made of the fiesta earlier, came out worse than a rusty nail.Going to read my theory book - if my cousin shuts the fuck up

Ive kinda drifted away from RR. I really enjoyed the forum in the past but theres just not enough shite there. One thing I want to know is.. How can I find out if a thread pisses me off without reading it?

Posted

A friend of mine who owns a struggling local Indian take away has confided in me that he has lost £3000 of the shops, his wifes and his mother in laws money at the bookies last weekend. He is now totally fucked. He wants me to sign him into the casino tonight so he can risk tonights takings to try and win some back. I know his wife and kids and don't know what to say to him if he rings me up later. £3000 is too much for him to "work his way out of" by the end of the month when the money will be missed. WTF should I say if he calls me later? :?
