The grumpy thread

Aye. It's shite isn't it? Last time ours went on the blink, I actually diagnosed the issue myself (faulty flow diverter valve) and we got that fixed pretty cheapy in the end after a helpful recommendation from a bloke who lives a few doors away. It's like cars. You get the feeling that if they suspect that you don't know WTF goes on in the box/under the bonnet, they can get away with sucking their teeth and making you fear the worst.

I'm sittong here feeling a bit numb at the moment, that and a bit sick, not sure if thats down to shock, or my oversized dinner I had a couple of hours ago.

I'm a bit concerned about my mate who's doing the phoning round at the moment though, think he needs a man-hug.....(He's the one in the picture with me who looks like a black cloud....)

Just had an awful week and a half trying to get my combination boiler repaired.

Combination Boilers are the work of this bloke:-

British Gas are also cocksmokers. They quoted me £2000 15 years ago for a boiler. It cost me £600 for an old fashioned gravity hot water effort and it hasnt broken down yet ( though I did need a new gas valve a couple of weeks ago as the old one was sticking open - £30).

outlaw.... sorry to hear that, the human mind can be a very fragile thing sometimes :(

Cavette - Can you flog the old computers and make some money back?

Cheers, have been thinking along those lines as it goes. People seem to go nuts for laptops and the Apple Mac thing might see a bit towards the Vectra repair bill :D

To me, snow changes the course of the day, you have to work around it, instead of doing a paint job outside I might remove a seat and bring it inside to clean prioperly and dry off afterwards, or I might just sod working on cars and try and get all the bleedin` dog hairs out of the living room carpet or something, in other words, I`m not happy, but I adapt, and try to not waste the time.

After spending the early afternoon being angry, I took time out to sand down a Galant steel wheel on my bed. Ran out of coarse sandpaper though, so it has been put to one side for a bit. Looks nice so far though! Think I'll respray them all beige when I'm done. The bed's a bit gritty now, but I'll get over it.

Just rub it with a greasy garage rag, that will collect up all the grit, SORTD. E

Use one of those sticky rollers for getting lint off of clothes, alternatively.

My rant - I had a row with a jumped-up HiVis numpty down at the local tip/Environmental Recycling Centre earlier. I wanted to empty a 20L drum of used engine oil. Apparently, this quantity made me "trade". Oh really? Maybe my scruffy 405 is the mark of a successful garagiste. So, in the name of the "environment", I should make a 20mile round trip every time I do an oil change (once every couple of months I'd say) instead?

Cobblers.

He let me empty it in the end after about 5 minutes of reasoned argument on my part, but made it clear my card was marked. Next time I think I'll go to the other local tip (10 miles in t'other direction) where, generally, it isn't as well-staffed and so I can empty it in peace. Or lob the used oil in the tank of the 405 instead.

OH FFSNow Virgin Cockswallowers have turned off my TV subscription. Not content with a broadband service that works when it wants, they have now canceled my telly - fuck knows on what grounds and Jeff from India has no fucking idea either - his answer, turn off my box and turn it back on again.

On the strenght of all this I think I will avoid Virgin from now on.

What's making me mildly grumpy at the minute, is trying to sort out this year's holiday.Decided to drive to France, as the pregnant Mrs S doesn't want to fly, and I'm not too struck with taking 17month old Miss S on the plane, either. But, I want to go far enough south to get a bit of decent weather, but that will mean a long drive. Or, we can stay further north. Fair enough. But, can I get her to make up her mind? Seen a few good places ont' interweb, but I can't get a decision. On top of that, there are so many to choose from, that I'm getting saturated with it. And that is making me a bit prickly.I know, this is hardly something to moan about. And that fact also makes me grumpy. Pah, what a miserable farker I am.Any help from the French, or familiar to France AS contingent would be MUCH appreciated.

Funnily enough, we're planning a summer trip to France. We're thinking of heading to Alsace as its quite Alpine but hopefully less busy. That said, we hate heat, so staying up in the mountains is much more our way of doing things.

I think a week spent visiting the Bo11ox Museum of Tat would keep everyone happy.Alternatively, you could spend an afternoon browsing leboncoin.fr, make a note of the locations of all the cars that catch your eye, and then plan an itinerary that takes in a viewing of all of them.

It'd keep me happy, fo sho!Already planted a seed about "bringing something back" but she just ignored me!Dolly: looked at Alsace too, but cooler weather sort of put me off. If I didn't want a bit of sun, I'd stay over here.

I would highly reccomend Alsace, when are you going? Its not the place for a sunbathing holiday but thats not to say the weather is lousy, it certainly isnt. Theres just too much other stuff to do, than simply soaking up sunshine.

We passed through Alsace on the BXagon last October, so I know it's very lovely. But then we discovered that a lot of France is very lovely!Likely to be first couple of weeks in July that we go, but we'll be going via Normandy as we'll be visiting family.

How about the southern coast of Brittany? Not too far and the coast is more sheltered than the Northern one. We stayed fairly near Quiberon a couple of years ago, nice quiet traditional resort with a sandy beach for little Miss S, and she can play round the stones at Carnac when she gets fed up with that :)

* Sorry if I don't sound grumpy, those Foden pics have put me in a mellow mood :(

Personally I'd avoid France ........try Blackpool instead, same tower, worse weather, more ignorant people and will cost you twice as much.............but it is BRITISH............

We are going to France in September with Lobster_Jnr. Didn't want to go too far but wanted to be abroad so France makes sense. Booked a gite through Brittany Ferries which going on past experience should be ok. On that basis, I'd recommend Normandy or Brittany. Get an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen / St Malo or Plymouth - Roscoff and you won't have more than an hour or two of driving to your destination.

Right, I was supposed to be calm and ungrumpy but FUCKING SNOW TWATTERY has made me all angry again. Another day without earning owt, Left home at 8, took 2.5 hours to get about 10 miles, every road either closed or jammed solid, gave up came home again. Arseflakes.:evil::evil::evil:

I took my traditional tiny country lane route to the A1M and it was ace. I was able to get up to 40mph at some points, despite a serious lack of grip (it's great in the flatlands, you can see people coming from miles away!). Main routes were all sticky so I avoided them. And the snow was all soft and fluffy, so no ice to contend with this morning.
