I borrowed my sisters Galaxy and went to the chippy... in Hornsea. The car is alright, although the steering is too light.

Anyway, i'm parked on the seafront, radio on and the fan is on as it's a bit warm. Chippy eaten and I'm parked on an decline facing the beach wall. I always forget "Does this have hill-hold?" Put the car in reverse and we go forward. I try again and the same thing happens.

Eureka!!! I must have to turn the engine on.

Annoying driving habits of the day...

1. Their journey is so urgent that they have to pull out of the junction/roundabout right in front of you .... before continuing in front of you on the empty road at 10mph below the speed limit.

2. The pushy/dangerous overtaker - who ALWAYS has at least one brake light out, and usually isn't wearing a seat belt

3. The "Fenland overtaking manoeuvre" seen on A roads with a long, long line of traffic all doing 45-50.  This is performed by people who really MUST move up the queue a couple of car lengths and involves driving on entirely the wrong side of the road for an extended period, regardless of whether they can see what's coming, before forcing their way back into the line of traffic by cutting up another driver when it does.

I always shit myself when driving from peterborough to crowland on whatever the new road is called. I can see why they do it, but jesus I've seen some stupid ones!

My stepbrother is fucking awful for it, we went from crowland to market deeping and I swear half the fucking journey was on the wrong side of the road. He just wafts out at 80, casually overtaking everything for the next mile of straight road before pulling in for a corner/car.

Maybe thats why he's had 5 fault accidents and 7 written off cars...

NYE last year we went over, and we popped out to get some fish and chips from deeping, and on the way back helped some lads out who had gone off the road into a ditch. Couldnt do fuck all as they were 8ft below the road so we gave them some chips and bid them a happy new year... (they were pissed, and they knew it, and they were shitting themselves, as they were axle deep in a muddy field.) We gave it a tug with stepbros transit but it was pointless

I presume you changed the plate only for the MoT and will revert to OMGNUNKILLING plates once the pass is achieved?

No rejoicing here. New font grimness. I was forced to hunt down the correct font for my Dyane. Paid to extra for illegal font for a cheap shit heap. Go me.

Wow what an almighty difference.

11/10 for that MOT tester, your doing a really really great job bro, keep it up. Your the best tester in the land, that is why none of your friends or family let you test their cars. Because they know your a prune.

Olympic swimming pool in the foot well of the Reliant. That will be the plastic from the doorcards acting up again then. Need to fix that, as my wellies are full of water as they live in the boot of the 75

To be fair to the tester of the 405 , its a difficult call to make . Its such a visible item that if vosa were to pull that car over after the test or come on site and ask to see the last car they tested(which they do quite often ) then the tester and site would get points on their mot licence .

Would you risk your job/ income for it ?

It's not a hard call at all. Not only is the size of the gap not measured and therefore open to interpretation there is another rule which says that the gap following a 1 or I can be proportionatly larger without starting any actual dimensions. This makes it a matter of opinion only. If the car had a mini italian style front plate or L81 VRW was writen in times gothic then it's a fail because it's obviously wrong.

Also, if it was inspected, and the VOSA inspector decided the tester was wrong to pass (or fail!) it, as a matter of opinion all he can do is state his opinion on the matter. No points added to anything, that's for serious stuff like ignoring obvious faults. Even if he finds a fail you missed it is a 15 point offence and the rules are that if you get less than 30 points during a visit they don't count either.

I personally wouldn't have changed the plate, I'd have argued with him instead.

what, by fitting a GB sticker?

I too wouldn't have changed the plate and instead would've taken great pleasure in quoting and referencing the manual to the tester.

I tried that arguing the point in the past but the tester just dug his heals ii mn, the fail was a rusty hole he poked which was within suspension mounting area, i pissed of and took it to the Mitsubishi main dealer for mot it passed as the hole he poked was in a cover held on with three bolts

Comes down to opinion again - there isn't anything in the corrosion section (appendix C) that says bolted on panels are included in the assesment, but it doesn't say they aren't either. It does mention judgement and benefit of the doubt several times though.

True fact - I argued with my MoT guy so often that eventually he offered to sponsor me through the training, which is why I'm now a tester. He now calls me if he isn't sure about something.

I can under stand bolt on panels that are structural but this was a splash shield, out of the 4 lancer turbos I've had this was the only one that had them still in place as they are just thin tin.

I'm up to three no shows now for the gumtree audi sale. The latest one sounded genuine and was to be here at 8 this morning. I like to think I would at least text if I was going to make it to a viewing.

I've also had the marine engineer at sea wanting to buy a surprise gift for his son scam email. Does anyone actually fall for that?

Posted

I know, that's why it is left to the tester to be sensible! Prob is a lot of them aren't. I've also seen cars fail for "rotted brake backing plate" on front discs when the manual is clear it means ON A DRUM BRAKE and a thousand other wtf incidents.

Posted

Ive had the disc back plate one !!

Just shows the tester doesnt know what hes doing.

Posted

That's why I shall be sticking with my present tester as he likes old cars. I have to pay full price £54.85 though no discounts, worth it as only had two fail in 10 years.

WTF is a 'pet bond' and why is it £200? That means before fees, it's £900 to start the tenancy BEFORE the first month's rent goes out.  Additionally, why is a 'terrier sized dog' seen as less destructive than our German Shepherd?  Why do I also need to fork out to get all the carpets in the house professionally cleaned at the end of the tenancy?

Estate agents in making it the fuck up as they go the fuck along, SHOCK.

Because they're estate agents and that's how they ROLL. I'd not be surprised if they said '...and finally, I'd like your shoes. Yes, the ones you're wearing right now.'

An old boss of mine was going to buy a place and then it turned out he couldn't quite come up with the deposit. He was only short by about 2k but still, if you can't raise the cash, then you can't raise it. End of. He was askedin all seriousness (and not very politely either) by the estate agent he was dealing with to "ask your mates to front up the cash for you," (so he could earn his commission on the sale, no doubt).

At least prospective house #1 appears to have been a bullet dodged.  A couple of days ago there was a spate of burglaries on that street, new tenants are always easy pickings in that situation.  We shall just have to keep looking.  It could be a lot worse too, someone over on Twitter mentioned they're paying £500pcm for a ROOM.  A fucking ROOM!  It's in The South, obviously.

I am ever thankful that my days of having to search for rooms are over. I was paying £650pcm on mates rates in Queen's Park in 2006. Lord knows what it's like now.

What was worse (for me) than the prices, was the 'interviews' you had to attend..

"Great, you're happy to part with a stupid amount of your hard earned shekkels for a pokey box-room above the water-tank.... but, you see, we need to see if you're worthy..."

Oh do fucking DO ONE.

The minute I moved into my own place ON MY OWN was one of the best moments of my life thus far..

My housing situation has been nothing but grief recently and when I move next week it will be for the 5th time in as many years.

The amount of money I've dumped down estate agencies for essentially FUCK ALL when I've been pretty much breadline without a quid to my name is scandalous.

They all seem to be smarmy twats aswell, you get the feeling that even the nice ones are only nice to make it easier to squeeze every last drop out of folks who are already in a bit of a financial hole.
