I'm actually willing this shit computer on to die, so I can get a new one that isn't Windows 8.

There's a place near me that will 'downgrade' Windows 8 to 7 for about £30, all properly registered etc. Apparently they have an unending stream of customers wanting it done. Maybe see if an indy PC shop near you will do it?

new bolt - tighten - hammer - turn - tighten - hammer - annoyingly the spare one came off really easily! It's the one from the car that doesn't want to come off.

Is it the comically shite Start screen and metro apps you don't get on with, or something else? I used to run Win 8.1 in my last job and had got it to almost Win 7 levels of usability. It's a couple of years since I've used it but Start8 from Stardock put a neat start menu back, it was £1.99 or something back then. I have a feeling they've probably added loads of features but nothing really of value since then, but I could be totally wrong. Classic shell is a bit rough around the edges but gratis. There's a command you can run in commant prompt to scrap the Metro/full screen "apps", though I can't remember it off the top of my head now. If there's a particular annoyance you have about 8.1 I might know a workaround.

I'd be reluctant to go back to 7 nowadays because it's kicking on for 5 years old, and already in the Microsoft "red headed stepchild" phase of being out of mainstream support and receiving security patches only. There are some benefits like faster bootup and better security too.

I've not really been following the Windows 10 story but I think they might be offering a free upgrade and it's meant to be out in the next month or two. It's a shame Win 8/8.1 is such a mess on a desktop, it's great on a phone. Makes you wonder what (if anything) they were thinking!

Spent 4 days fitting a new bathroom. New bath has a mixer tap (TECHNOLOGY!) but it's fuck all use cos the hot water pressure is so shit that if you put both taps on at once it backfeeds up the hot water pipe and pumps all the hot water out through the header tank overflow down the side of the house and washes all the plants out of our lasses hanging baskets, then you have to wait another three hours for it to warm up before you can try again at having a bath to soothe your back back after spending four days carrying sheets of plasterboard, toilets, baths and shitloads of wood up loads of stairs.

They were probably thinking that everyone would be ditching their laptops and desktops for touch-screens, in the space of a few months. It wouldn't be the first time a big tech company got their predictions horribly wrong.

Not been able to get out and do car shizzle due to circumstances beyond my control for the last week which is annoying as I really wanted the GT6 MOT'd by now. Hopefully I might have a good run at it in the next few days before we get our moving date. Still have not seen inside the garage of the new place to see what its like.

Just realised my passport runs out soon so thats another £80 I have to find before going off to Greece this summer, that could have been my excess windscreen money for the 75. :-(

Oh joy of effing joys.

Two weeks ago I lost a nights' work due to extreme congestion in the area. Never mind, I made it up by doing six shifts last week.

I was off yesterday, so I had another tyre fitted to the V70 (mot on the 31st), fitted another courtesy light panel, and the thought I'd sort the parking brake as it was hanging on after release. Did the passenger side - all good. Removed the drivers' side disc/drum and BOTH handbrake shoe linings fell out. Fuckit. Never mind, just wind the adjuster right in and don't use the handbrake, I don't normally anyway being an automatic. New shoes on their way.

Went out to go to work tonight, battery is stone dead. Right out of the blue. Just died like it's had an electronic heart attack.

Mrs Tetley at work until 10pm tonight, so absolutely shafted. Another nights' work lost, can't make it up next week, coz I've only got Sunday off anyway. Arsewipes!!!

How do you attract the attention of the car in front when they're not apparently looking in their mirrors? Honda Jazz on the way home had its back box hanging off the rear hanger only, with the front half and section of pipe dragging along the road with sparks. Flashed my lights and waved to no avail, she just accelerated away in a shower of sparks. Must have been noisy inside though.

And this morning some other newish Honda looked like it was trying a masking smoke screen - was too white for oil but smelt oily- brake fluid?

Moving out of rental property and landlord being a prick.

Inspection is Friday morning except he is now going to be around doing jobs wed Thurs and Friday. And now wants to show potential renters round on Thursday.

I think I might be cooking fish Wednesday evening. That will help create an ambience I think.

Did I mention he is a prick ...

If it's not convenient for you, then he can't without your approval.

I've wasted time before now waiting in to show a new prospective tenant around and they didn't show up.

What little jobs does he want to do now you're moving out that he didn't want to bother doing before?

Another grump from yesterday. Our local 2cv club night and also my birthday, so I thought I'd have dinner at the pub for the meeting. A pint of youngs springtime ale £4.45, fish and chips £12. Yes, it was very nice, but over £16 for fish and chips and a pint! London prices - no wonder the place was almost empty.

Moog, kippers breakfast Thursday morning, that'll make sure.

mixer tap [being a twat]

Cobblers, if you've just re-done your bathroom, you've probably installed those little isolation valves on the supply to each tap..? (The quarter-turn-with-a-screwdriver jobs.)

Just turn the supply down on the cold water feed by 70-80% to reduce the flow, so it balances the hot pressure.

That should sort you right out. :)

its a shame that the moog won't be able to get either some of those fermented herrings that the norwegians like(?) or some of those rancid "1000" year old eggs that the chinese consider to be such a delicacy.

they aren't actually eggs that are 1000 years old, but they are i think about 18 months old.

doesn't that look appetizing-

I think I dissected something looking like that in biology! Pretty sure that was a cow eye though.

All the jobs he promised he would do and didn't are getting done.

Thing is we have been really reasonable as he has had house on market and up for rent and have made time for viewings. No one round here likes him, seriously I have never met such a c###.

Did a little karma thing by popping into letting agents to tell them he is doing private viewings to avoid paying them any fees. They were most interested. Will hit him where it hurts.

Kippers sound a treat :-)

Make sure you burn them a bit. Oh, and I believe boiled cabbage goes really nicely with them.

I did put some of them in, but they are a bit further up the chain so they'd affect the bog filler and the shower too.

Anyway it turns out that this bath is about 9000 litres so the hot water tank can barely fill it sufficiently to cover my knackers, so there's no need for cold - just put the hot on and wait til it runs out then finish it off with the cold til it's palatable, then sit back relax and enjoy the warm water around your heels, shoulders and kidney area.

Those "Ancient Eggs" aren't too offensive to be honest.

On water front news, affinity water wanted to come round last week as the meter number didn't match their records. Turns out one of their lot came and changed all seven meters here sometime last year after my last reading. But it's not recorded who, when, or even what the reading was before they chucked it away. No one here in the houses knew anything about new meters until last week. The new ones weren't even showing which meters served which property.
