The grumpy thread

I'm really not someone who gets physically angry but I punched the fuck out of my other (mechless) one when it went on one of it's fits where it just beeps and flashes "no usb device" every 5 seconds. I managed to smash all the stereo surround, knock and air vent out and push the fucker right through the hole and down into the dash but fair play to it, it was completely undamaged, sadly.

I'll have that radio out of the Corsa soon, promise, so if anyone is after a not-too-horrible unit for not-too-much delivered it could be the one for you.

I've got a hole that needs something putting in it, yeah. And I'm not really fussy.

I've got a Sony stereo like that, the controls on it are indeed wank. WTF you need a 'zap' button for I don't know.

My aldi head unit is great! Hands free isn't too awesome apparently but fuck it, SD card and Bluetooth all work grand!

I've had friends with Sony units, put me off them for life. As everything Sony, the price is always 40% more than it should be too!

The head units are an exception from that rule (which I deffo agree with) in that they aren't that expensive for what they do, which is why I reluctantly bought one. I would go with an Aldi head unit (I have one in the van) but I'm one of those bellends who has amplifiers and stuff, so I need preouts and crossovers.

Tomorrow I'm going to take the front off the stereo in to work and cut the PCB track for the zap button and rewire it to do "next track". Then I will put a load of rubber behind the "colour" button so it takes two hands to press and it will add about 2 years to my life.

I have a sony mp3 player (last sony thing I ever buy) with the zap button on it, I've discovered by accident what it does, I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would need something like that.

Is it mechless, cobs? The Clarion below has the cleanest face design I've seen for a while in a modern head unitI'm getting one for the KNOB_VAN at some stage. I have to go mechless because there's so little depth in the dashboard for a CD unit. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200917071438?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Thats nice, sort of what I'm sort of looking for really. I dislike the jazzy-shite head units that are forced upon us today, they are as dangerous to use too, multi-function buttons that are too small to use, too small to safely press and too many functions within those buttons.

I've got one of these:

$_57.JPG

Pioneer DEH 4000UB. Not got a clue what it means, I stuck it in because the Kenwood KDC-3031 I temporarily bashed in it was just as fiddly, even more gash looking and had this irritating demo mode that couldn't be switched off. I just want either a clock or the station I'm listening to on display, not a list of a 1000+ things it supposedly can do. As well as that, the Pioneer has a USB thingy in it, a bloody site more useful than bastard CDs sliding around the place, simple plug and play.

Incidently, last night after taking the rubbish out, I lost my USB with some copied music somewhere between the house and outside, I also stopped by next doors house. I couldn't find the fucking thing last night but managed to find it by next door neighbours door where it fell out of my pocket. So today, the USB function was put to good use.

I'd really like a Merc head unit in my car with a simple layout but with USB function. The Micra has the earlier version of the aforementioned Sony. It's quite simple to use and has done us proud for years. I wanted to replace it with a later Micra unit, but thought, what's the point? It works well and is pretty inoffensive.

That's nice Mo, not too "busy" looking.

I always used to like Kenwood systems in the 1990's as they were quite elegant. Blaupunkt seem to be one of the few makers that limit the gimmicky stuff on their ICE these days but they are expensive.

The zap button is not for people in their right minds - its for ADHD teenagers who cant concentrate on anything for more than 10 seconds.

Edit - went for a piss and was beaten to the punchline by messerschmitt owner.

Tell me about it, my wife teaches from home (I'm sure the neighbours can hear her shouting at them). Unless it's computer games (I nearly typed video games, I iz old :( ) in which case they're there for weeks months.

My SL had a fancy Alpine or Kenwood or something else mega expensive head unit in it (and a 12 disc cd player in the boot) which had a pop up TV screen in it and a dvd player as well. It was also  a touch screen thing with a fucking remote control unit (why? What the fuck do you need a remote for in a car? It's not like the stereo is miles away from you and you need to cross the passenger compartment on foot to change volume!) and it was totally wank.

I had to have my wife in the car to actually use it as there were so many screens and menus to go through it was impossible to use solo on the move. Hated the fucking thing and it got replaced with a proper Alpine with knobs that could be used without a degree in computer science.

Old Man has a Kenwood he's had in his past 2 Hondas seeing as neither had a radio. This one, but the buttons light up a different colour I think.

Simple enough, works well, sounds good. Reccomended - it's about 5 years old. OM didn't even choose it - dealer put it in his Prelude for him, he liked it so it stayed. And he's a picky bugger.

The new-to-me Citroën has a Blaupunkt radio/cassette, probably factory fit, and it's not easy to use in the dark because it's the only the LCD that lights up. I had to use a torch to see the single button that cycles through the radio stations to get from R3 to R4 last night. What's worse is that it will only fast forward the cassette, so no listening to that track again, or no going back to the start of the next one if you have skipped the one you don't like but overshot.

(Last night's tunes - Scorpions' Taken By Force.)

All our Optares came fitted with a Blaupunkt when new. the did not last very long before the buttons and knobs all failed. Most drivers did not use them anyway.

I'm trying to find a simple unit to put in the BX. The head unit has to be able to be used by touch as Citroen made sure it cannot be seen and it is also hidden behind the shifter in the auto version. so far impossible to get one. I may have to buy one with a remote. $$$ !

I had a Sony MDX-6500 years ago. It was ace, but unfortunately was only Minidisc, but had a Sony 10 CD changer in the boot.

I still have it. I bought another one for £10.

I always put the original stereos back in, here is my Starion:

I had the MD Sony head unit, it was great as MD doesn't skip where CD does, when you're young_Pillock and have a lowered car.

Booking fees.........

There is a big band night at Aylesbury soon.........try to book tickets and find there is a transaction fee AND ticket fees which come to £8.65 on top of a ticket (which is £18 each).

Too grumpy to book now. Wish they hadn't told me........just include it in the ticket price FFS and I wouldn't feel so dirty and used

When you change jobs why can't your previous employer just pay you what they owe you in one go, not in dribs and drabs?

Not been paid all my money, will have to wait until feb for the rest.

Tell me about it I had to go to the autosport show at the NEC last weekend with my girlfriends son. The advance tickets were £32 !!!! each (fucking rip off for a trade show if you ask me). On top of that is a £2 per ticket booking fee, then the £10 to park at the NEC it is soon a £100 day out to see a load of stock cars which is pretty much all that was there. Anyway have a picture of a corsa to cheer ourselves up.
