The grumpy thread

Hope you get the citalopram situation under control SambaS. Been on medication before and the best way to phase them out is slowly rather than completely in one go. I'm sure Sporty-shite and Micrashed will agree with me on this.

Very minor grump in comparison - I finally got a response from the div whom I won the old Alpine head unit from on eBay. He took an absolute age to reply and reckoned a fault with paypal was stopping him from claiming the money I sent. He won't confirm whether he still has the unit and won't send me his bank details so I can do a direct transfer.

It's getting on for three weeks since I 'won' the auction. I want this head unit and I'm not letting this go until he sorts this out.

Why is it impossible to sell a great car that everyone likes?!

i dunno. It just is it seems.

This isn't going to sound very helpful, but it's probably just bad luck with the timing.  There was a bit of a spate of purchases a couple of months ago when the weather was good, and I suspect lots of people have got full driveways and are discovering new rain leaks that need sorting.  Those are my excuses, anyway.  Christmas may be casting its shadow over budgets, too.  Can you hang on to it for a bit?

I've noticed people posting much nastier Merc CEs on the eBay thread recently, which must be irritating.  I feel your pain.

Edit:  Just checked your brown Merc thread, which suggests all of the above is irrelevant.  So your eBay General never showed up, then?  Morons.

Cheers Skizz. It's not AS I'm whinging about. It's fucking EBay time wasters and Carandclassic dreamers. At least shiteists are honest about the amount of money they haven't got!

SambaS - if you need the meds, stay on them.  No harm/shame staying on stuff for years if you can't function without them.  I'm still on Epilepsy medication despite not having a 'turn' for 16 years now, but I'm buggered if I'll risk it coming back just for the sake of not taking something.  OK I might end up with a fried liver come my 70th birthday or something, but rather that than not be able to drive now.

Let me help you with that.  Stay well, SambaS.

PS, I do hope you keep a handle on things Samba. Mrs Shitpeas has come off her dose gradually and still had a meltdown.

It's a hard job, ballancing meds and I hope you find a nice happy medium.

Puts car selling grumps in perspective.

Where is this fella with the head unit? If is local to anyone on here maybe someone could offer to collect it with cash, then he has no excuses and you get your head unit..... Just a thought like.

A couple of weeks ago I sent a parcel to a friend in South Africa with UPS.  The value of the package was about £250, and UPS charged an unpleasant, but 'competitive' as we went through a price comparison/shipping agent, £70-odd for the delivery.

Now it's arrived in SA, but UPS is refusing to release it until we pay an additional £200 in unspecified 'brokerage' fees.

Can anyone help me understand how that's not 1) in breach of both basic contract law and the Unfair Contract Terms Act, since I have a piece of paper saying customs brokerage is free and there is nothing more to pay, and 2) criminal extortion?

Remember this?

UPS are fucking thieves.  They changed their claim from 'brokerage fees' to customs duty, which should either be zero or 7% depending on how the goods are classified - not 80%.  We sent them proof of purchase value and they flagged it as disputed - but then they demanded the £200 from the recipients or they'd destroy the goods.  Unfortunately the recipient paid up - which I will now have to reimburse.

I am fucking furious.

"Threatened to destroy", as in "permanently deprive of"?  Is that not theft, not to mention demanding money with menaces?

IANAL, etc.

^ Yep, extortion.  There's fraud in there, too.  And it's not just some scrote in South Africa - complicit in this also is what UPS laughingly call their UK Customer Resolution Team.

Unfortunately my wife has been dealing with this up to now, since she organised the original shipping, and she's far too bloody nice about it.

Bloody hell... We should start a "which companies NOT to use" thread... So far we've learnt about RAC and UPS, I'm sure there's plenty of others !

Whats up with RAC? I know they tried it on recently with my annual renewal, so I said I would leave and guess what?

Like a miracle they checked their system and found they could do it cheaper. (I know, its amazing isn't it)

FFS why not offer this in the first place instead of trying to rip me off. And they have no record of the Scorpio breakdown last June so according to them I have never called them out :?

I hadn't seen that, but on some forums you have to have 50 posts or something before you can 'trade.'  Whether that's a good or a bad thing is a matter of opinion I reckon, and by doing so might put genuine people off with interesting/cheap old rammel to sell.

I hate forums that limit sales posts to "established" members.

If I have something to offer, I just want to advertise it to the people most likely to buy it and not have to chat 50 posts of shit before I am allowed to.

Even worse are those that expect payment of some kind of club membership first. They can sing for it and I will take my chances with Ebay.

Minimum post count for posting ads just encourages the word association thread.

EFA.

Harlow, in Essex. What a good idea - anyone local? I may go down on the train myself.

I thought about joining the Rolls Royce enthusiasts club. As it can be helpful to get access to info etc. They also make out that you should join the club because that is where you will find the best cars for sale and not be sold a pup. £105 fuckin quid to get a 68 page glossy magazine full of trade ads every 2 months. I think not !!!!!!!. I mentioned this silly idea to the trader who is supplying my parts and he told me to search out the austrailia club and all the info you would ever need is there and free.

..... joining the Rolls Royce enthusiasts club.

I got kicked out of the Daimler/Lanchester owners club once in the past. Apparently, they thought a Fleetline in mid restoration lowered the tone at their events...

You're a bad man, your new car makes owning a Royce sound like a sensible proposition.   There's one for sale on my road, petrol has just gone down to $2.70 a gallon, must resist...

I thought DHL was Driver Hopelessly Lost? They lost a 45 foot trailer full of stuff for IBM once.

Yodel (Your Order Delivered Extremely Late) aren't any better.

Parcelfarce and Royal Mail are about the best of them in my experience so either they are exceptional or the rest are abysmal.

There was someone asking about marina bits, one wanting stuff to do with some old dealer, then that one with the 626 who seemed a bit weird.

I'm not saying you should have a post count type block but none of them have posted again or anything. This is an amazing site with an amazing bunch of people. If they bothered to join in they might have found that out

I could block access to For sale/wanted thread till they have 5 posts if needed.
