The grumpy thread

Radio 6 is good but some of their presenters are self satified (Stuart Maconie) and occasionally the music verges off into sounding like my DAB radio has crashed. It's still much, much better than 90% of the rest of the dross available.

Can't remember what happened to the parking knobends thread, but this just appeared on the "twittersphere"

DAB is a bit modern and high tech for me like, even my analogue radio is gaffer taped on in an Onslow style after a small accident with a garage door and keeps fading out because of it.

Casablanca in a Metro 1.1 is a reasonable effort to be fair to him. Turin in a Pug 307 is the lamest one I've yet seen.

DAB is shit and already surpassed. They say that the wrong horse has been backed.

Anyway, I know it's been done, but would those idiots please turn of their fog lights. It's drizzly - not foggy.

Sadly, car manufacturers take an age to catch up so we're only just seeing dab in a good number of new cars. You can still buy plenty with FM only.

I found a new national DAB station called Team Rock. A nice mix of classic rock, metal, shouty stuff and whatever. And as far as I can tell, no adverts.

Can't abide any radio programs - well, the presenters.

Used to listen to Classic FM but before long the adverts and presenters got to be too much to bear.

Only listen to the CDs now.

Same with the telly, have only watched Dr. Who with my grandson, he stays here on a Saturday just for that, my daughter won't have a TV.

TV very rarely used otherwise.  A DVD maybe once a month.

I do watch Swedish films on the computer though, partly to keep up with the language.  No presenters, no adverts and watch when I like, not when it is on.

I think I've seen a few if those specialist Swedish films . They seem mainly plumber and window cleaner themed though.

I've had the same DAB radio in all my cars since 2005 and I've got a Pure Highway in my work van. I hate when I have to drive somebody else's vehicle and I'm stuck with Cooncil radio. DAB does suffer from the same problem as TV though, you've got about thirty channels that are essentially exactly the same and about three that are worth listening to.

Ebay seller with the head unit is ignoring me.

This is the second time in as many months people have taken the piss. I'm going off it pretty quick.

Nope, this sort of thing.

Mainly Maria Wern, Wallander, Irene Huss & Cammilla Läckberg (Fjällbacka Morden)

You have to register for some of them.

Are you sure these films aren't herring-based smut? I remain unconvinced.

Pretty tempted by that Moroccan Metro, we did a trip to Casablanca in 2008 in an Allegro without any non-self-inflicted breakdowns. Gibraltar to Dover in 2 days is possible...

I am half-way through that trip right now. The drive from Madrid down was so boring (flat flat flat hill flat dust flat hill dust flat) that I went round the coast via Valencia and Barcelona on the way up, even though it looks a bit longer.

It's not that I don't think it can be done, it's the pointlessness of it and the needless dumping of the metro.

Wallander is brilliant, I don't speak the lingo but I do appreciate the subtitles.  I wish all telly was more like BBC 4, but instead it's just full of gobshites.

Wonderful combination of a Vauxhall AND French electrics. I have those 'Morette' headlights fitted to my Astra and I'm having no end of bother with the drivers side dipped beam unit. Absolutely works only when it fupping wants to. Off, on then off again, replacing the bulb and fuse hasn't helped, nor has cleaning the spade connectors that connect the light unit to the loom. My mood is not helped by the fact that we currently have the slowest tiling job in the world going on in our house right now and the tiler has been working till 9 at night. Place is covered in grit and dirt, plus my garage has been overtaken by bits of random wood. These are getting howked out of there Sat night and the car returned to it's rightful place! HAPPINESS LEVEL: MINUS 2.5 COMPLAIN TO THE MANAGER.

It's MOT day for the Meriva, so I drove it in as it's only going up the road from work, and I FUCKING HATE IT

Devoid of any feel, just turn the wheel and the car follows like sloppy gravy.

Doesn't like going round corners slightly slower than I take them in the ZX

No acceleration AT ALL, even in low gears and 4.5k, just noise, and not nice noise

Seats are horrible

A-Pillars kill any visibility dead

Have to have the seat right up, as the clutch pushes sort of down, and having the seat right down makes it tricky

rear view mirror then blocks the middle of the windscreen

Stalls at the slightest lift of the clutch (may be me used to the ZX there though)

Stinks of fucking oil

used some pez, which I haven't experienced since selling the XM

no feel to the brakes, just push and slow, but you don't know you're braking too hard until it suddenly REALLY slows with no further pedal movement

Clonking from the suspension still, although a different clonk at least

I look like a prick driving it

I miss the ZX :-(  Still got to drive it 10 miles to the MOT station and back, including a steep hill start which I'm not looking forward to, and then 25 miles home again, once home I don't want to drive it any more than 'up on ramps' for the next 360 days!

I live near about 5 schoolsand it's Hallowe'en tonight.  I also have a dog that goes mental whenever someone knocks on the door.  I do hope it's not going to be a particularly long night as a result.

They don't know that, and it's hardly as if I own the town or even work for a significant publication.

It'll get resolved long before 'do you know who I am?' gets mentioned. I hated that line working in retail; It's an absolute, total, fleeting, last resort - and even then I wouldn't be that keen.

I'll be in Crowland this weekend if you need a hand smearing dog shit under his ticket machine? Will be with a dog too.... (my stepbrothers, not SWMBO...)

I live in a shared house run by a landlord the local kids are terrified of.

Plus, our Muslim neighbours aren't big on Halloween.

Please don't ever say 'do you know who I am?' it's the sign of the utmost arrogance. I have some stock replies when someone says that to me: Either start shouting 'Hey, there's a bloke here who doesn't know who he is' or 'Have you tried looking on the back of your shirt?' or 'I don't give a fuck who you are, fuck off.'

^^^what he said. I've had that from tinpot councilors, solicitors and the like all expecting that the world should revolve around them just because they have a certain job.

A close second is I'm family/friends with..... So fucking what?

That's why I could never own a hotel or restaurant or something: the moment some gobshite uttered those lines, they'd be on the street wearing their suitcase or dinner. Possibly both.
