The Audi's had a tiny "spider" crack in the screen for 2 years now and its not got any worse (yet)One of these autogimp's came out to use that resin and crazy machine you see on the advert,And for some unknown reason took it upon himself to use a heavy metal tool to remove it off the window screenI ain't no professional but putting alot of pressure with a heavy metal tool on a screen is not clever unless you want a bill for a new 'screen. The best screens have to be Ford's with the heating eliments in themI found it weird that the mondeo we owned never had one, but the Sapphire 2000E didGuess its spec' related.

The Ford heated screens are great. Very handy in this weather. Slightly less good when you have to replace them though as they are lots and lots of ££££££s.

Posted

Are there companies that can make them for other vehicles ? :)I imagine there rather pricy !!I only remember them in The 2 Granada's and the Sierra Sapphie 2000E We owned

The Autoglarse campaign is starting to look like scaremongering the stupid into getting their insurance to pay an inflated price for a pointless repair

Hardly a 'free' repair either.....up goes everybodys insurance premiums to pay for for them.

I had them in three Mondeos, two late Mk2's (T and V reg) and a new shape one. Automatic on the latest one, nice little frost symbol comes up in case you hadn't noticed it was bloody freezing on the way to the car!IIRC Ford had the patent on them and won't do licences, so Fords only until the patent expires. Didn't know they had them on Sierras tbh, first one I encountered was on a Mk5 Escrot.
Posted

Pretty sure some mk4 Escorts/Orions had them too...Got one on my 96 Mondeo but have been using the Bluebird through all the bad weather. Just cover the windscreen in the evening - no probs.

My Sierra has a heated screen that does a good impersonation of a bar code  Maybe I DO need autoglarse after all.*looks around for a rock or old sparkplug or something to lob at the screen!*Incidently, those heated screens can be a pain at night when on coming headlamps pick out the elements.

Text talk. Pointless, inane, fucking stupid dribble.M8? That's a motorway in Scotland, not a friend.PPL? Parts per Litre? Oh, you meant people did you? Why the fuck didn't you just type that then you twat?Do internet forums charge per letter? No they don't so piss right off.I can tolerate 'lol' and 'roflcopter' and I don't mind it used ironically but constant use of 'text talk', especially on the internet, is FUCKING STUPID.

Has anyone, in the combined motoring experience of Autoshite EVER seen a car heater crack the windscreen?Even with the best heater in the world on the coldest day on record? The Autoglarse campaign is starting to look like scaremongering the stupid into getting their insurance to pay an inflated price for a pointless repair. And it's getting worse with every ad.....

Sure have! It occurred on my friend's Aygo last week! heat induced crack that when prodded lightly in a sort of "what's that" way, got suddenly very large  I think the Ford heated windscreen was available on some Fiestas too

Autotrader's fucking survey.I did one once, it was all multiple guess, there was no text box for me to write "I've stopped using your stupid fucking website becausea) You ruined the interface by changing it for no fucking good reason ANDb) All the fucking pop up surveys get right on my tits!"

The one I did a while back had a text box. It asked why I visited the Autotrader site, I put "sexual gratification".

I stand corrected.I still say it's irritating scaremongering though.

They've been in Range Rovers since the early 90s.Possibly earlier on Saabs and Volvos.
That would be Landrover (owned by Ford at the time) and Volvo (still owned by Ford - I think)Also available on some Jaguars (owned by..... oh you get the idea!)Never been on Saabs. Could you imagine the price of a heated wraparound 900 screen?

But yea, I'd think it was only in very specific situations that it could occur.

Vectras used to crack their screens all the bloody time when I worked in car hire. Crack about 4" above the top of the dash, right across. The staff drivers who hated Vectras used to do it all the bloody time if it was sub zero outside. Cracked screen meant it couldn't go on hire, so the lads would deliberately do it, heater on absolute full blast at the screen with all the other vents closed. Leave the ice on the screen deliberately, leave the car running for 5-10 minutes and it would do the job and they'd toddle off happy in a Focus or Mondeo. They'd disconnect the batteries on cars without aircon in summer so they lost the radio code and couldn't be rented out as well.Tricky bastards..

Land Rover wasn't owned by FoMoCo until 2000.My '97 Range Rover had a heated front screen and I know they were fitted to some RR Classics in the early 90s.
I appear to be full of shit today, sorry about that. I did find this from 2001 http://www.glassonweb.com/news/index/83/

Happened this morning on a Vito van that a customer was on his way to view! Glad it was the owner who started it up and forgot he left it running for over an hour!:oops:

Had a brown trews moment on Saturday when I chucked hot water on the Zafira windscreen and heard a "crrrriiiiickkk" and saw a line appear near the radar detector.... It turned out it was the ice on the inside of the screen that had cracked, not the screen.

Phew.

We had 5 Transit van's parked outside our messroom at work the other night in the freezing ice running for 6 hours without moving with the fan heaters on full blast and they never cracked.Still hate that Gavin from autoglass twat though.

Mate of mine had a G plate last of the line Mk2 Onion with heated screen and trip computer. Tidy motor too, sold it to a bloke who exported it to Cyprus for his retirement!!!!

I remember Lagunas having a slightly blue tinted windscreen back then.

I recall that too, Xantias had similar treatment to the sunroof - what wazzit? some sort of polariser/ UV shieldness? All this talk of autoglarse ads reminds me how much I hate ANY bank advert. The way they depict life as all happy and nice in spite of their miserable banker products. Not to mention that Hafiflax actively STEAL from current account owners who may be overdrawn but are within their authorised overdraft limit. THey essentially shifted the goals.Ah, me went off on tangentski

Fucking Virgin 24 Hour Telephone banking that no longer is 24 hours - its now 8am to 8pm mon to fri, 10am to 5pm sat and shut Sunday.all of which I could possibly just cope with if a) you had actually told people you were shifting your hoursb) you didnt keep me waiting for an opperator for 3 hour because all our lines are busy. Thats why I liked the 24 hour thing - I could call you on Christmas day at 4am when the kids woke up and pay my visa bill and I didnt have to hold the line.

I dont get how SPAR is one of the most numerous stores in the UK, I never ever see any.I wish the snow would go away, okay yeh its nice and pretty, but its a pain to walk on. In the past year I have experianced more snow than i ever have in my lifetime. Im sick of it!

Posted

Spar - best shop anywhere for milk that's on the turn before you buy it and bread that's hard as iron on the outside and uncooked on the inside. :D

Overpriced Whiskas cat food as well. Bastards.

Weather forecasters....gone on, admit it, you're still using some sea weed and a pile of pine bloody cones. We were supposed to get eleventy billion feet of snow on Sunday, got about 3 flakes and a light drizzle. Tomorrow we MAY get sleet, heavy rain, hail, snow, or a plague of fucking locusts, depending on which forecast you hear/see/read.
