Ebay tossers - sold items Thursday night and paid on 1 of them 11.58pm. Other Paid late Friday night. Both sending threatening / moaning emails that they have not got them yesterday morning. Advert stated postage in 3 working days.

SWMBO fired up the meriva to go to work and it engulfed us in blue smoke, and puffed it merrily out the back as she drove away. Quick google suggests valve stem seals, wtf are they?

Hardly worth responding, since they clearly can't read...

Is that still the case? I had it in my head that EU block exemption had been dropped/overturned by the manufacturers...my dad was asking me the question this morning as he fancies ordering a new Note next year, but wants our trusted independent to service it if possible, without invalidating the warranty.

It does still apply but the rub is that it invalidates the anti corrosion warranty if a main dealer doesn't service it as the anti corrosion checks are usually done as part of the service at the main dealer, you can of course get it serviced at an independent, then book the car into the dealer and pay an arm and a leg for a separate anti corrosion check which will end up negating any saving on servicing elsewhere.

I found the way round it was to get the car serviced at a dealer but get their fixed price "own" service rather than the manufacturer service, meaning you get oil and filter, air filter and spark plugs replaced with genuine parts plus the usual "checks" and importantly the corrosion check for £89 rather than £200+ at the same place by the same guy using the same parts and same stamp in the book.

They're the seals for the valve stems :) .

Oil leaks through overnight and gets burnt causing blue smoke. Other explanations are available.

Worn valve stem seals means you have to buy a bit more oil every month, and not look in the rear view mirror when you're pulling away. That'll fix* it.

This to the power of eleventy.

One day I'm going to snap and reply back "Shit you've foiled my cunning scheme to rob you of £1.50. I've only been sending stuff out for the last 9 years to get 25,000 feedback so you wouldn't be suspicious when your £1.50 item didn't instantly arrive. I was hoping to get out the country with your money before you realised you've been conned. I'd have got away with it too if it wasn't for those meddling kids!"

Sounds plausible! Certainly doesn't sound worthwhile to fix given its value. What are the big renault megane scenics like in pez form, 99\2000 age?

Shit.

They're not even that good, if the Scenic-shaped turd my sister had is anything to go by.

Rediscovering all the reasons I had to get away last week this morning.  Joy*.

To quote the inside of my Aunt's cutlery drawer just under where the knives live "don't let the bastards grind you down".  I'm sure that one piece of paper has saved more lives than the maker of it ever intended.

I have an unfortunate need to set up my old A3 scanner again.  It is a reasonable enough bit of kit but most of the time does a very good impression of an expensive door stop.  I've spent 2 hours now, with help from people that know more about these things than I do, to no avail.  The scanner can see the PC, five wireless networks (all open) and has up to date drivers and all the rest.  The PC can see the scanner and does try to communicate with it both wirelessly and via a wired connection.  But the scanner, as usual, refuses to talk.

I have one person left that knows how to resolve this, there is apparently a weird conflict the scanner produces that it shouldn't so hopefully he can resolve that for me when he finished work.  Until then, I'll have to Heath Robinson some way of scanning stuff on the A4 scanner I've been borrowing.

Printers and scanners man..... They are the herpes and crabs of the technology world.

Seriously - its 2014. Say that out loud "The year is Twenty Fourteen" - That reads like the intro to the science fiction novels I used to read as a kid. We are living in the future...a time of marvels and wonder. There is a dude at NASA sitting at his desk right now remotely operating a nuclear powered robot on the surface of Mars! So why the ACTUAL FUCK do printers and scanners not just work?

To add to the depressing thought of the failure of technology, consider how little was actually required to put a man on the moon.

It used to be a massive pain in the arse to make peripherals work but generally they accepted their defeat once you had ground them down. Now the amount of effort to make them work has increased and they never stay working- they are like the Black Knight and won't accept they are beaten until you chop all their appendages off and walk away.

I have started to run around like a complete idiot. It´s called "jogging". Why? Because I´ve got 10 kilos too much on my hips and need to get them down because I will be 30 years old this october and it will get harder the older I get. Said my sporty misses. :?

No chocolate in front of the television in the evening too. Cancelled. :?

Haven't posted on here for a while, but in the last 24 hours I have managed to put out a rear quarter window in my Sintra with a washing machine going round a corner

and also managed to crack the thermostat housing replacing the thermostat on my diesel maestro.

It's easier to find a thermostat housing for a 25 year old perkins than a window for a Sintra!

Now I need to go take a shower, I feel dirty after looking at these pictures.... :?
