Some don't seem to help themselves though - some of the quotes I've had back from 'testing' the cost of moving contents of a 3 bedroomed house (10 years of junk, furniture, etc) 100 miles away - well, they'd hardly even make their fuel money back, let alone pay for any of their time. Bonkers.

I suspect they already had a one-way job in the other direction? In which case, they'd just want to cover the extra fuel they'd use with a full load, as opposed to empty.

One or two yes - all 12 or 13 that have offered? - doubt it! I'd be concerned about my stuff being held to ransom for more £ on the day and will take the pain of shifting some stuff to storage over the next couple of weeks (and subsequent retrieval) and round up family's friends-with-vans for the rest I think.

I usually pop on Google Earth if I've got some hours to kill. Using the full fat one instead of the pissy tablet version, you get this sort of 'timeline' where you can see what your town/city looked like in 1999 (earliest before that is 1945) It's amazing to see how many factories there used to be around here before many of the razed in favour if yet more bloody supermarkets and housing.

I'm currently going through some of the newer supermarkets in the West Midlands to see what they used to be (inspired by FPB7s comment that Oldbury Asda used to be a car auction place. I cant find any mention of it on the web yet)

It's also interesting to see the road alterations and now disused roads that were once used. A lot of it simply doesn't make sense.

It's great the timeline feature, I love it. Wish my area was included in the 1945 mapping. Amazing how some places have doubled in size while others are almost identical between then and now.

I hope Google are keeping all the old Streetview data safe somewhere. Imagine how wonderful it would be to have every version of that in years to come.

LS, look up the Morrisons at the top of the Soho Road. Built on a bit of the site of BRCW - you can still make out the size of the works from Gmaps - huge!

The one right next to the m5? I remember that as being an auction. Maybe about ten or so years ago?

Yes it was an auction house! The building was listed for some odd reason and had to be incorporated into the new supermarket. I think it was all done in the late 1990s

I believe it's Google policy to keep every single byte of data that passes through their virtual hands, for all eternity. In fact, if you looked at their Maps in 30 years' time, the biggest difference would be the number of warehouses built to house their servers.

Customer - New printer doesn't switch on, tried another power lead.

Me - Connected up and powered on, test printed etc.

Customer - Sent it back again saying it's a problem with the motherboard according to manufacturer.

Me - Errr ok. Still powers on and prints.

Customer Service & Team Leader - Replace it.

I don't know why I bother...

I've finally caught the bug that's been doing the rounds and to top it off my doctor called today and informed me I've a broken back, they didn't spot it in hospital after the x rays (spent about 30 secs looking at the head to toe images) it's only come to light after the quacks have requested the pics because I was wanting some physio for me pegs and shoulder. This rather annoyingly puts a dampener on racing Sunday.

Oh a grump from me....

Needed to swap the tax on the Multipla from disabled tax to regular full fat tax, according to the web this can only be done at the local DVLA office, i.e Shrewsbury, 30 miles away. I checked the opening hours online and as they only open office hours I booked today off work to go and sort everything out.

Anyway, I turned up at the DOOVLA office only to find it had moved, fair enough, only 5 miles away. Turned up there to find it had closed down altogether! No mention of it on the web or anything!

A quick phone call resulted in a trip to a post office just down the road where the whole transaction was carried out in about 2 minutes. Turns out post offices can now alter tax classes. I could have just sorted the road tax at my local PO instead of dragging my ass to Shrewsbury and wasting a day off work.  PAH!!

Invoice them for the wasted time. There's no excuse for an organisation that size having out of date information on their website.

/\/\  This.

If more people kicked off - about everything, not just the Doovla fiasco - things would start getting bloody sorted. But this is oppressed England, and that's about as likely as me getting it on with Kylie...

Ratty man's been round, looks like we're spending christmas living at my bloody mothers! He tested the water tanks in the loft and their heavily ratty, so thats why we've all been ill. He's baited the place up to the nines as it's now empty, coming back on the 20th to check and clean etc. Also been told to get environmental health out to get the property sealed up (loads of holes around the place)

Fucking great, still had to pay council tax for the month, although we haven't paid the rent yet. The landlady wont notice so fuck her, we're just keeping quiet. Means I can't wash hoovers there as the waters infected, so most of my projects are now on hold.

Was it not featured in CAR circa late 80s or am I thinking of somewhere else. Run by an Australian?

I've just left the Autoshite Facebook group, I really can't understand why anyone still goes on there. It's got over 2000 members who mainly seem to drivel on about dull moderns and post pictures of barried Corsas with the caption "Corsa shite" then other people comment and say "shit not shite". What the fuck man.

Posted

Haven't been a member of it for ages. This forum is where the quality is. Annoyingly, I still get updates when friends post to the Autoshite page so every once in a blue moon, I do think "ah, I'd be interested in discussing that." But if it's not on this forum, sod it.

I'm the same now. Tried it when it was shiny and new but this place feels like home. Even if we are now in a permanant building rather than a leaking asbestos shed.

I was going to post the same gump myself recently, the Facebook page has dropped recently in quality, my wall in being spammed full of posts saying "Corsashite" or "Vectrashite", or some bloke posting photos of his modern BMW telling everyone how it's shite. It's just fookin boring now.

Who's the man/women who constantly posts pictures of mid spec mk3 mondeo's? V

I tired of the Autoshite FB group when that tedious kit car obsessive starting parping on about Boxsters [sic] accompanied with pictures of five year old Range Rover Sports. I BUY THE BEST CAR'S FOR MY FAMILY.

Now you just have blurry camera phone snaps of CORSA'S, spam posts from the DeLorean Owners' Club and repeated dreary cobblers about Mk3 Mondeos. GO AWAY.

I've only recently rejoined and it's still as shit as ever.

I don't have a Feacebook account and I don't want one, but can whoever set it up not close it down? I'm sure all the sad bastards posting up pics of new BMWs and modded Focuses will find somewhere else to post up thier crap. I'm not sure we want the term 'Autoshite' sullied with 58-plate Beemers and the like.

There's a gay diver. Once the world has got over this incredible news, maybe those of us who don't give a flying one whose sexuality is what can listen to the radio or telly again now.
