The grumpy thread

I guess it depends whether it was a garage or a bodyshop. The likes of Just Car Clinic over here don't do mechanical, it gets farmed out because 90% of crashes just need panels and paint and maybe a bit of alignment. As soon as the engine is hit, write off time.

Got an appointment next week with one of those car buying services. Time to offload the focus since it needs a £640 (fitted) DPF, the DMF is now feeling very tired and they're about £900 fitted, cambelt time in about three months too. It'll cost me £notinconsiderable to get rid and pay the finance off but I won't have lost out compared to what I've been paid in car allowance by my employer. Just about break even since I've been pocketing about a hundred quid a month that's the difference between finance and payments to me.

On the RR Ewok question, you have to hand it to JLR for having the business sense to develop and maintain two very distinct brands - one which retains an image of class and one aimed squarely at the footballer / lottery winner / drug dealer, rich chav market.

Land Rover products will be 100% chav once the actual Land Rover (not Defender, whatever the badge says) is discontinued. It doesn't really make sense to sell to old money types, their money gets old because they hang on to it.

I see that and raise you the BMW X6

Don't raise it too far - unless being HIABed on its final journey - those shitheaps are big enough already.

They seem to have forgotten to fit windows to the Evoque...

Would you want people to be able to see you?

Jaysuss, I am a grumpy ol' barsteward today!  Must be one of those manufactured 'celebration days' or something...  :P

While we're on the subject of gopping chav cars, I bring you this grump which, perhaps just shows how out of touch I am with modern motoring. I discovered today that, in addition to the hideous Q7, Audi make this baby version for people who have the aspiration but not the cash.

At least you seem to be able to get them in brown.

Feckin fathas feckin day....Had a banging night out in that there London last night, got up feeling a bit pale.   Cock all in the fridge so went up Morrisons to get scotch eggs and more beer (not an alky but there was none left to take camping tomorrow).   Bastard place full of Dad'n'Lad shopsters getting in the way cos they couldn't find anything.   Is that what Fathers Day is now - leave the mums at home and take the kids shopping in your matching England tops for a treat?   Get home all tetchy and we have had an endless stream of bloody visitors so now I have got piss all done.  Postponed my camping trip till tomorrow to get shit done and now I haven't.   Should have gone this morning, buggers.

Software installers....

"Are you sure you dont not want to not install this extra guff?"

wait....thats a triple negative? DO I CLICK YES OR NO? FUCK.

Also, "standard installation" now apparently means "install the software along with three extra toolbars, a security scanner and reset my homepage to Bing"

I do, but pretty much every time I visit my pals house I have to spend half an hour uninstalling all manner of crud from her computer.

It's always been something to watch out for on slightly shady software but even anti virus and anti-spyware programmes are at it now.

Posted

Anti virus and spyware are running a scam I think, bet they write half of them in house.

AVG won't even pick up some crap that keeps trying to install pops up and reports all's well.

Got a virus today somoto J :( running scan at the moment)

Went to a car show today and saw among the cars a really nice Mini. Then noticed the 1960's tax exempt number plates / its a later car with 12" wheels and wind up windows and no external door hinges. Twats only left all the windows in which are security etched with its real number. 9 years of free tax the bastard

I may have mentioned the rust hole in the Princess on Twitter.  A car finance company's Twitter account may have then Favourited said post.  Presumptuous bastards, I drive a fucking Princess, I'm a completely different sort of moron than the sort you're panning for.

Exactly the same happened to my primary school teacher's equally brown Allegro in 1980.  The culprit was caught by police and had to pay off the damage in weekly installments.  How I remember that from when I was 8, I have no idea.

Was it because it was a lot money out of your paper round?

Oh dear Wuvvum - how much weldage is involved??

Posted

Not a lot - a patch about 3" by 2" at the back of the offside sill by the jacking point.  It's annoying mainly because the car's never been welded before, and because I'm pissed off with myself that I didn't notice it deteriorating.  That and I spent the whole morning running round like a twat trying to get it ready - I thought I'd done everything but then I spotted a split in the offside CV boot so had to run out for a boot kit.  Now I've got to take it round my mate's and get him to weld a fugly patch on the sill which will stick out like a sore thumb.

Do Halfords do side skirts for Solaras??

That knobber who drove his girlfriends Polo onto the circuit during a race at Brands Hatch at the weekend (its been all over t'internet, you can't have missed it). He justified his wanky actions on the basis that 'you only live once' and was having some fun.

I hate that YOLO so fuck everyone else attitude. What a massive throbber. Hopefully his only living once will end shortly.
