The grumpy thread

I've looked back at least half a page and can't see this rant has happened yet, so: Insurance.

I know I need it, I know it does me a favour in the event of my binning my car into a police station or something. I can't stand people who think they can drive around without it. I can even see why it costs so much, when a car accident plus whiplash plus legal cover plus all that other shite tots up.

But what annoys me, is it going up for no reason.

Last year, me and SWMBO got a joint policy. 2009 Focus, 2008 Touran, business use on both, I've got 8 years NCB and she had none. £660 or something.

This year, with another years NCB on both, everything else unchanged, the renewal comes through at £841.

I go on Admiral's website, get a new quote with identical details, £736.

That suggests that they're trying to make a quick buck. Even if you ignore the original cost - Mrs_P only had 320 days insurance or something to bring her into line with me, so they both renew on the same day; so you put on another 40-odd days it bumps the cost up (but not much) - the fact is that to renew costs over £100 more than to take out a new policy. WHY? With collectively two more years NCB?!

Insurance. The only instance where you are required by law to buy a product from a private business. If you have to have it by law why not fleece as much as you can?

How did laying new floor tiles in the bathroom become:

Lay new floor tiles

Replace bath panel

Repaint skirting

Tile in window reveal

Re-grout tiles

Paint coving

Replace bath taps

Paint walls

Paint medicine cabinet

Replace shower screen

The worse thing is I seem to have suggested all the extra work myself, some of which after reading a home improvement magazine in an optician's waiting room...

I saw an ad in one of the classic car papers for a car which I am interested in, and also noticed from the description that it was remarkably similar to one coming up at auction. So, being seriously interested, having wanted one of these cars for years now, picked up the blower at 8 pm. Here's a fairly accurate transcript of the brief ensuing conversation:

DIALLING TONE

WOMAN ANSWERS

ME: Good Evening, I phoning about the ...... ..... you have for sale.

SELLER: No, I don't wanna talk about it now, it's getting too late.

ME (taken aback somewhat): OK, well what's a good time to talk, then?

SELLER: Infact, no, I don't wanna talk about it all. Thank-you.

Phone gets put down.

I've never come across anything like this before - it doesn't seem to be the ideal way of trying to sell a car. I was seriously interested in that car aswell. I'll be waiting for another now, though.

Lol, unfortunately I couldn't bring myself to do that, and I've sadly ran out of booze. With hindsight it was more amusing than annoying - their loss ultimately.

I've had bother with pattern thermostats before, genuine ones have always worked fine.

Likewise.

At my main place of work the female staff have decorated the staff room with those hilarious signs about how men are useless and women are the best and being addicted to coffee.

Sigh.

Discrimination and harassment on grounds of gender.

Seriously. They can't have both ways.*

Fucking U.K court system!

As some may remember, my Mum came to an untimely end back in 2012 after being hit by an uninsured motorcycle. The court case was a bit of a farce as we were given the wrong dates and attended a day late, this happened twice. Also our victim impact statement wasn't read out for the same reasons. Total fuck up from start to finish TBH, even the police were given incorrect dates to attend.

The biker pleaded guilty to causing death through driving while uninsured but was given a fairly lenient sentence in crown court due to another case going to appeal in the supreme court over the technicalities of the law (i.e, how can a death be the fault of someone solely for having no insurance) Fair enough, time to get ourselves together and move on.

Fast forward to today and apparently the supreme court judgement came in in late 2012 stating that having no insurance can't be the only factor in causing death on the roads, there has to be another (dangerous driving e.t.c.) The biker then appealed his sentence, which was rejected by two different courts back in July 2013.

We only know this because my dad has been firing off letters to the CPS asking for updates and asking why we were not being kept of abreast of developments. Apparently the victims family are suppost to be kept informed of everything that's going on in a case, which we never were, infact we were denied the right to attend court because of the courts errors.

The whole lot is a shower of shit, we've been trying to move on from it all but it's brought it all back up again. My dad is in bits over it again.

My utmost sympathies, Tim.

Someone should be in deep shit over this. Is there not a severe complaint \ grievance procedure that can be followed? How are the CPS regulated?

Posted

There is, but there's a somewhat arbitrary six-month limit. However, if Fatha_Tim's most recent unanswered letter is inside that timeframe, I'd say it's worth a punt.

And if the CPS refuses to investigate itself, there are probably alternative options...

Seriously (note lack of asterisk*), I agree. Two wrongs don't make a right - women behaving as badly as men isn't fucking empowered, it's pathetic.

*Except the coffee signs should stay there. Coffee is essential.

I meant no offence, truly.

Must correct you on one point, though. Coffee alone is not enough; GOOD coffee is vital. Or a decent cup of tea, especially if your name is D. Wobbler, esq. ;-)

NO offence, honest - you were kidding about complaining - I wasn't: double standards annoy me. No girly calendars = no "hilarious"* posters about men's shortcomings. Everyone should be a bit nicer to each other. And yes, only ever drink GOOD coffee.

I am an equal opps feminazi ;P

Sympathies LT. The justice system can be a right crock of shit. IIRC, the uninsured, speeding driver who ran my nan down in 1991 didn't even get a prison sentence. Just a miserable fine. I was a properly angry 12-year old at the time, and a stint working for a solicitor years later did little to improve my view of the courts.

I'd be quite happy to trade a few pictures stuck on the fridge door of women wearing 1950's cleaners hats smoking fags saying blokes were lazy, for some nuddy pictures of Emma Bunton.

It mostly wouldn't bother me in the slightest, because I don't need to go in the kitchen as I'm a bloke.

Another ebay twat complaining there's a 'mark' on his pool ball gear knob, n it's a second hand ball, n he wants another free one for his mate compensation.

1) A duster will remove the speck of dust you have in the photo.

2) FFS, do you really think I could find the time to go round enough pubs to steal a few thousand pool balls ever year?

TWATBAY :(

That's terrible LT. :(

The thermostat was a pattern part - after explaining to the seller that it doesn't work because it stays open all the time, he asked me to be more specific in how it is faulty. I'm sure thermostats can only do one thing, and then do the other thing, so I'm not aware it can do another thing. It's either broken or it's not.

Someone has been vandalising my cars lately...

That red stripe that goes from the polo across to the 340 is...

Wait for it!

Tomato sauce!

They really showed me!

I haven't washed it off yet, they also sprinkled some flour on the volvo so one side of it feels like sandpaper.

yesterday i found some bread sprinkled on the bonnet and some more bird shit...

I park my cars in a free public carpark that's always full during the day and empty at night, maybe someone thinks i'm bringing down the neighbourhood with shit cars, I think a wireless camera from Aldi is in order!

You should come to Merseyside, or more specifically, Woodchurch (or any other places in Merseyside, take your pick). They still key cars round here for no reason.

We have really malicious people living here who for some reason either don't know or don't care how much it would cost to put something like this right. I've put the car in my garage - it's taxed and MOT'd, but I'm going to put it back where it was. It is hardly used, and I think some fat, jobless retarded c*nt must have a problem with it. I'm also going to park it on a slant, because fuck you, it's completely road legal. Someone has also relieved it of it's aerial (who steals aerials?), and also it's wheel dustcaps (of course).

I'm going to have to respray this lot again (and also fix that lacquer peel).
