The grumpy thread

My PC is wired, i have a Ethernet cable from the wall to the white Openreach box, another cable to the black home hub 3 then another Ethernet cable from the hub to the wall powerline adapter then out if the other adapter in the dining room to the PC.

It sounds like a router problem trigger as it's not assigned your PC an IP address. I think red sparrow is suggesting you stick the network cable into the bit closest to were it comes in the wall to eliminate the system that uses the elecy as a network.

I've found these to be historically to be a bit shit as it's relying on an electrical system, which isn't really shielded to handle network traffic that well.

Does your wireless work (can you get on internet) when you pull the network cable?

Posted

The wireless is working fine as I'm able to connect to the web via my mobile, just got of the phone to some Indian bod from BT who said my internet is working fine and it's a issue with my end, most likely the internet service settings on my PC, it was working ok before last evening so it can't be that can it?.

My moneys on the Powerline adapters being shite, I'll take them back to maplins tomorrow i think.

If your PC can't connect to the router via this power line stuff then it'll not be able to get assigned an IP address. It could be that the network cable between your PC and the powerline thing is tricking your PC into thinking it's plugged into some kind of network even though there's nothing at the other end.

I processed about half a dozen sets of those TP efforts today (all returned faulty) plus assorted other TP tat.

My box is downstairs the same - I have a direct cable running up the stairs to where my pc is... been there a few months already as it's working and I can't be arsed trying to feed it under the floorboards.

Sounds like i wasted £60 buying 3 TP-LINK boxes then, I'll see if maplins will return the twin pack (my 3rd single box came of ebay) and I'll hardware it from the hallway, it does means ripping up carpets and making holes in walls though FFS.

Remember when pistonheads used to be good for find sub 1000 stuff? I used to rate it as a class-A high addiction source of tat alongside gumtree but now it's completely shite. If you look for cars under a grand it's just all over priced dealer PX and Bentleys with no price specified. I think they got new management who thought it wise to removed the free adverts thinking were going to coin it in. No 1 way to kill a site as you lose all the general traffic from folk like me who go there to look at the tat. Shitehawks.

I believe part of the reason was trying to get rid of the Barryboy specials that were clogging up the pages. But it is now full of trade dross that isn't remotely interesting or sporty. I still get free adverts on there, but have had my Bleubird up for about 6 weeks and in that time - well, you know the story.

Anyway, today is my 30th birthday. Can't say this is quite what I thought I'd be doing at this point in life, and since I deleted Facebook it's basically passed everyone by aside from people who are related to me, Confused.com and Ebuyer

I deleted my birthday from facebook and the following year, rather than the 30 messages from those who "remembered" - last year I got 3. But those ones meant a whole lot more.

Happy Birthday sir.

Didn't realise you were older than me Alex, hope you have a good day, the benefit of people not remembering is you get to do exactly what you want with it!

Happy Birthday mate. Your only slightly older than me by a few months.

Happy birthday NC. I had similar thoughts re my position in life on my 30th birthday. I did have vague thoughts at the time about trying to get off my arse and do something about it. I turned 33 today and I haven't got round to doing owt yet...

And I also got a birthday message from Confused.com. :?

Grumping with a cold and regreting my no tv in the bedroom idea after all night shivering while listening to the BBC World Service.

Managed to drag myself downstairs so watched Das Boot on BluRay.

Has anybody ever done "delay repay" on the trains before? First Great Western have cumulatively wasted almost 90 minutes of my life today, for £27.05

I did it once with Virgin trains. Train was stuck just outside Watford for about an hour and a half due to that fire under a railway bridge that made the news.

When I got off the train there were people there handing out forms to send in. I filled mine out, sent it in and received a cheque from Virgin about a week later for the full cost of the (one way) ticket. I was quite happy with that.

happy birthday to N C. It won't be long before you are half my age !

The cock knocker in the metallic blue Picasso between Sheffield and Manchester earlier: Any particular reason why you were doing 35-40mph at most in the unrestricted zones and then sped up in the 30/40 zones? Twat.

It's been sunny all week, but it's the MG Rover meet at the Halfway House today and it's absolutely hammering it down :( Not sure whether to go or not, it did sound very good with a Met Police Rover 800 and an MG dealer offering test drives in an MG6 booked. Bollocks :?
