eddyramrod Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 I've just been over on Open Forum - I know, I really shouldn't, it boils my piss far too often - and seen someone use the "word" outwith in a post; not once but twice! WTF is outwith? It seems to have been used as a replacement for outside, in both cases. What was wrong with outside? Is that not a perfectly good well-established easily-understood English word? Show me who invented outwith. I'll show you a red stain on the wall where his head used to be. chodweaver, myglaren, mrbenn and 10 others 4 9

Parky Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 We’ve all been put on consultation. 120 staff, 30 to go straightaway, remainder to get the chance to reapply for new contracts. Informed some departments will be hit quite hard, others barely affected. My one is due for what was termed as decimation. So it looks like I am probably out of work at the end of June. It does make the “shall we shan’t we” discussions about moving back to New Zealand a little easier BorniteIdentity, mrbenn, Lord Sterling and 6 others 9

cort1977 Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 Outwith is a well established Scottish word, I was similarly surprised when i first moved up here. Because of all the Scots in the oil industry it spreads like Covid19, i was reviewing a document written by a Brazilian the other day and it was full of outwith this and that. I always change it to outside because as shown on this thread it's fairly obscure. I'm always tempted to say reach around instead of reaching out in a meeting but haven't quite worked up the courage yet... Supernaut, BorniteIdentity, myglaren and 1 other 1 3

Mally Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I've just broke a tooth. Right at the back, been filled years ago and a peice has broken off the side. Not hurting, so hope for the best. Not a lot of dentistry being done at the moment.
iainrcz Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I seem to have woken up this morning in a parallel universe. I'm having a glance at car insurance quotes. Unbelievably at 40 years of age and 20 years worth of no claims bonus the cheapest I've found is £708. Are they confusing my vehicle details with a fucking Ferrari or something!??! 2 minutes ago, Mally said: I've just broke a tooth. I broke my front crown off a month or two ago, apart from making me look like even more of a prat it's not causing any issues so it can wait.

purplebargeken Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I am doing my NHS nursey job from the office. This is normally where it all happens anyway. I didn't want to work from home as home is shit, the bandwidth is super shit, ben and Mrs PBK work from home and suck up all the bandwidth. I have nowhere confidential to work from at home. I am working on my own in an office that normally holds about 50 staff. I am rarely disturbed. Just had a phonecall from our 'organisational' team leader to say t hat I cannot work in the office from tomorrow on and can only work from home. Why? I ask. I explain the issues. They are heard sympathetically. They are swept aside as the 'big bosses' have decreed that the place be emptied of all staff and the place virtually sterilised. Well, that will make it all better won't it. The first person to walk into the building will undo all the good work*. My work mobile data use is being bumped up hugely to compensate for the shitty home wifi. So, I'll be stuck at home in a shitty situation with no respite whatsoever. That will make it all bearable won't it. Thanks a bunch you wankers. My one and only escape, now fucked. puddlethumper, Coprolalia, myglaren and 3 others 6

purplebargeken Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I live in lovely Edmonton, the capitol of stupid shouty noisy people. No such thing as quiet here sadly. This is one of the reasons I would like to fuck off somewhere a bit more French.
