I have got nothing done this weekend. I have done nothing to the Datsun for months. I'm unlikely to do anything other than the essentials to the van.

My latest plan is just to sell everytuing.

Things are worse than I imagined. Both now up for sale.

All the £750 Dolomites, Granadas and Datsuns are out there, only that they are £2,750 now.

Sadly, I know that  you are of course absolutely right.

It is just that I have yet to pay this sum of money for a motor car.   There is a divide going to have to be crossed sometime soon.....

Don't think power steering became standard on the K11 until 1998 so any normal/lower spec car before then should have the right rack.

I am exceedingly hungover, even at this late hour. Walking to the local shop and back I had to have a sit down as I thought I was going to pass out.

I really must stop getting so trousered of a weekend.

STRONGLY DISAGREE.

It's what the weekend is for. Missed Saturday, went out 5.30pm Sunday instead, got home at 1.30am or something on Monday. Absolutely blitzed the vodkas and felt like utter dog shit yesterday, can't wait to do it again.

The real problem is that money just isn't worth anything nowadays. It probably wasn't even in the 80s, but it was so much easier to come by.

It got a lot worse in the 90s and since this millennium without any redeeming features began, it became seriously tough.

So the more worthless money becomes, the harder it is to obtain, which is actually no wonder when five people have 60% of it.

Having a crap night (insomnia).

Having FINALLY dozed off, the bloody smoke alarm out on the upstairs landing decides to go off - for all of ten seconds - at 0341 in the morning. Cue frantic check of the whole house for any signs of any smoke.

Fire in the house is one of my recurring nightmares. That'll be it for me sleeping tonight then I guess.

if its any condolances

the other day a Phone I lent to my brother that he gave back to me saying he was done with it, suddenly went off at 9PM just when I thought I had finally managed to pass-out nod-off, (and when your in constant pain its not easy falling asleep, these days its more just passing out with sheer exhaustion...)

If anyone can help me find a part number for the rack it would be great, tried emailing Nissan Uk and the local dealer but got nothing back. If nothing comes from it, will have to buy second hand and send for refurb...

Try Googling Kiley-Clinton engineering. They may be able to help.

Yesterday morning..... bit of a stutter from the SAAB - no matter thinks I. Couple more on the way to work - ah well, I'll take a look this evening if I can be arsed - and parked up.

Evening - started up and sounds a bit 'off'..... been getting the 'wash fluid low' warning for a few days so CLEAR - didn't read it properly first though eh smart-arse*. Trundled home amid the odd misfire and a BING just short of destination. Read the fuggin message this time though - COOLANT LEVEL..... !!! Bolloxfuxtixwankpadmonkeyjizzguzzlingtwat......

Jumped out - checked top hose - fuck all in it..... fan going mental - off and into the house. Bastard......

Cooled down - topped up and started - steam from the exhaust and mayo confirms it..... OMGHGF

Temp never went stratospheric so probably saveable..... but it's going in the corner for now..... little bastard.

I swear it heard me muttering to myself how to organise getting another chod-mobie over in the coming month......

Liked in remembrance of hangovers passed - no more for me - moderation these days but fair play to you.

Liked because you've reminded me how Saabs bong for everything & put up messages on the SID for anything unimportant like washer level, yet oil pressure is a bong, warning light hidden behind the wheel & no message....

Why are classic insurers so useless now?

Phoned FJ, second car, agreed value, in owners club, 3000mi/year, kept on driveway etc etc. Perfect for a classic quote right?

Sorry we can't quote you, you aren't 25.

Not even going to bother trying the rest.

What was all that about giving young folks classics a few months ago? I'd bloody love to know how they get them insured.

Luckily I was expecting this and have many other avenues to explore.

So much for finding a house.  Surveyor's report came back today and even with us knocking them down to what seemed a reasonable price for the area, it's still £100k overpriced AND the house essentially needs demolishing and rebuilding anew because of problems with its construction.

Back to square one.

Buying a house sucks.  Buying a house in the south east sucks THE MOST.

oh this bodes well for me... (tho as mentioned in my invacar thread, imagine trying to insure an invacar via a regular insurer  )

This may be prime granny/egg interface, so apologies in advance, but take some brave pills and re-read the report through the eyes of a man whose whole job is to cover his back.

I'm not saying it'll do anything to improve the valuation aspect, but the most structurally sound, damp-free house imaginable can still acquire a survey which is covered in bright red boxes warning that the WIRING IS UNSAFE BECAUSE IT CAN'T BE SEEN and THERE MAY BE HIDDEN SUPPORT BEAMS WHICH ARE NO LONGER SAFE.

Of course, if the report says

Ya know that Phone I mentioned a few posts up? well my brother gave it back to me (after I handed it back to him when it woke me up with people trying to contact him on it) saying "it stopped working" I fiddle with it for a while and see that yeah somethings defiantly fucked with it, (it looked like the iPhone was not detecting its battery properly)

so I ask him WTF did you do to it? to which he responds with "I didn't do anything to it"

well I Opened it up just now...

didn't do anything to it my fucking arse. its swimming in coconut oil of all things... right pissed off by this as aside from the obvious reasons to be pissed, I had this iPhone Dual booting iOS 8.4.1 and 6.1.3 for software testing/development purposes and im not sure if ill be able to replicate that if I got another iPhone 5...

mercedade: The problem with the house mainly is that it's a temporary prefab built from materials with an unsuitably short lifespan but has been presented as a house that is built from something rather more substantial.  It's basically a dolled up static caravan which is fine for a holiday in Rhyl, but not for a house you want to live in for a few decades.  In a few years it will be beyond its lifespan and require replacing and that's not something we have the budget for, nor the desire to do even if we did.  On top of this is the fact the property, while nice looking and in a good location, requires work to make it fit our needs such as a driveway extension to fit all the vehicles.  A nearly-okay house with a nice location pricetag has turned into a liability because of the result of the surveyor's report.  Bullet dodged, but still massively annoying.

Posted

Oof, that's shocking. There are a few prefabs near me and when they come on the market they say quite clearly "non-standard built, cash buyers only"

I'd be rightly pissed off with the estate agents in your case.

To be fair FJ are still pretty decent compared to others, plenty of other providers are now 30 plus only, or quote obscene amounts.

1st Central and eSure are usually pretty well priced for your standard insurers.

Got a link to a zoopla advert or something similar? I looked at a couple of prefabs before we bought the house we're in now. Several different types actually, and I did a fair bit of research into what can go wrong with them.

As it's been presented as something else, I assume it's a hollow concrete panel design or something similar? The main house we looked at was a Cornish type 1 unit, which can be upgraded to brick-and-block construction surprisingly cheaply, hence considering it. Never went ahead in the end as the house was really very small.

Posted

No concrete or even proper wood in its construction, it's all ply, chipboard and other reconstituted cheap materials with a pretty facade.  It doesn't matter, it's off the list, we're moving on.  It's left something of a sour taste, tbqh and the listing won't really tell you anything.  Hollow concrete would at least have given us something to work with, but it's apparently not even that good.

You could always move to Chester. It's a lovely area, you might even strike lucky and find a reasonable priced, end of terrace 3 bedroomed house, with far reaching views over some horrible Ford cars.

If only we knew someone selling a house in that area. If only.

Hefty commute for the bf though, and we don't really need any Vauxhalls right now.

FJ want £287 just to cover my dad on a classic policy on my 416GSi. And I'd have to register it to him too...
