The grumpy thread

I can't see how things like power tools end up at car boot sales and the like legitimately, surely they get used until they wear out and then are replaced, they don't get replaced half way through their service life.

My left knee is killing me. It flares up every now and again but it's been painful for the last week or so, locking up, clicking and giving way under weight. I injured it motor racing about 15 years ago and never had it looked at. I should have it checked out but I can't afford any more time off work, especially if I end up off for a few weeks or something.

To follow up on my grump from yesterday, although this isn't really a grump, just an update.

The C2 Loeb I viewed apparently sold at 9pm the same day.

A guy came up from St Andrews and bought it there and then, in the dark.

This is all according to my colleague who was trying to sell it, but he was an Indian guy who does pizza delivery and runs some hand car washes, he looked it over for all of a couple of minutes, handed over cash, and assured them that he "would tax and insure it immediately" then drove off, after getting a lift there in a blinged-up BMW 3 series.

I asked my colleague if he could tick off any more stereotypes.

Fuds who shout unintelligible nonsense out of their car windows at me when I'm out cycling. Piss off!

I'm dying!

I just ate a 500g panettone, 1925calories!

Don't think I'll be needing lunch today...

Panettone? Is that food or some sort of building material?!

It's actually a type of large furniture van. HTH.

Two-thirds of PIP appeals succeed.  Worth a go.

Putting in Conor's PIP appeal today. Government says "only a fraction" of PIP appeals succeed, but 2/3 is a fraction so they aren't actually lying.

Sounds about usual after a trip to skeg! Too many screaming folk causing headaches and dodgy quick cooked food for Gipping stomach when I go yet I never learn.

No, that will be in the post next - they have to send me their "evidence" which consists entirely of things I sent them that they have ignored, and some unsubstantiated opinion from a civil servant and a nurse.

Guns at the ready!!!

After getting another Volvo after a number of years I've gone back onto the VOC forum and joined the Facebook group and I have to be honest I'm a little disappointed. Years ago you'd chat to time served 240 owners (probably with beard and sandals) who were mostly down to earth, full of good advice and always willing to help. Nowadays The forum and FB group seem to be full of twats dishing out opinion and wild speculation as fact and generally speaking complete bollocks. Not everyone I hasten to add, but it seems to be a sizeable amount.

Disappointing.

Bloody customers !! Last week had an MGF fail it's mot on a whole load of work, mainly rear suspension and wheel bearings. Told the customer it was uneconomical to repair. So she decides not to listen to me and orders all the parts to get it through the mot. The parts arrive here today, all secondhand and all pretty much as bad as I am taking off it. She paid 300 quid for this lot as well. Now no doubt it will all be my fault, I should tell her to bugger off really. The only trouble with that is I will end up getting slagged off for not taking her money. You just can't win sometimes.

All modern cars are shite. I've got a 4 year old Dodge Charger thats in for a service, and a few other bits. They've had to change the bottom arms, tension arms and roll bar bushes under warranty. Fair enough, i'm not paying but its the second time the bottom arms have had to he changed in 4 years. That's proper shite, that is.

Anyone who wants me to fit second hand wheelbearings gets told to bugger off, MGF or not.

Oh she did buy a complete hub which I would of fitted except the idiot who removed it has hit the top of the ball joint thread which makes it pretty pointless even trying to fit it. I don't mind fitting secondhand if the parts were actually any good and removed properly rather than the crap she has had delivered. It came from a supposed specialist Rover breakers who don't even supply invoices, just a compliments slip with £300 written on it. They certainly know how to charge that was for a secondhand hub a pair of rear track arms (that are wrong anyway) a radiator (that is bent slightly at the top) a front fog light switch (it needs a rear fog switch) A front exhaust pipe (this actually looks pretty good) and a new but really cheap aftermarket cat.

Wow. I'd have sold you an entire MGF for that.

Been a bit busy lately, some Pleasure but mostly Work.   48 hours since Friday.   Looking forward to a couple of days off trundling the Cowley around Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset back roads so I swapped cars in my storage unit after work today.   Even remembered to take my half-eaten sandwiches out of the Minor.....

Well, that idea is all fucked now......They are Gritting The Bloody Road outside.   WTF?   This is southern Hampshire not the bloody Cairngorms.   Now there will be three tons of salt in every gutter and verge across the county.    Looks like I will be painting the bathroom like she wants, then.

Must be an American car thing... PT Cruiser bottom arms and ARB bushes are also basically a service item ...every two years or 20,000 miles. The only good thing about it is they are piss easy to change and relatively cheap to buy.

Must be 25 degrees here in oxfordshire, may brave opening the sunroof on the way to work this morning!

eBay idiots asking how many miles my 30 year old van has on the clock. Then moanin that 160k is a lot, ignoring the fact that the engine and gearbox have done half that and most of the suspension is new. And it's a 30 year old van FFS, most vans have done that by 5 years old!

This. Having handed back my membership card after dickheadgate 2017 (storied episode #1819) I can but concur with your findings.

I'll renew next year so I get an insurance discount. The VEC seems hell bent on imploding.

Key cutting update - Timpsons did 4 keys for 18 quid including the blanks. Saving me well over a score compared to using my local independent. Even better, I asked the bloke in there if they'd been busy. 'Yes which is good as I don't have to talk to customers'  :-D  I will definitely be using that at some point on an irritating Saturday at work.
