The one from the photo is an estate. I do suspect it is a Mondeo still, just wondering if anyone recognised the headrest/windows

Oddly, the Mk2 Mondeo is a better match for the seat and headrest than the Mk1.  Agree that it appears to be an estate.

I managed to find a photo of Brydon driving the blue hatchback pictured earlier.  That is different inside.

Galaxy, Shirley? C-pillar much too upright for a Mondeo.

Could well be, although a couple of things don't quite look Galaxy-esque to me.  The Galaxy has a van-like seating position and Brydon seems to be sitting in manner one would better associate with driving an ordinary car - the steering wheel looks conventionally orientated, for example.  In addition, if you look through the window at the back of the car opposite, the ground clearance of Brydon's car seems to match - i.e. what one expects in a normal saloon.  The Galaxy was higher off the ground, if memory serves.  I could be wrong on that as haven't been in one for years!  My local taxi drivers all seem to have swapped their people carriers for van-based minibuses with more seats.  Shame really, as it means having to deal with sliding doors as a passenger.

1978 and we're in Bucharest again. This looks like a straightforward two-door tail-finned saloon from the mid 60s, with a plate registered in 1971-2. But I can't quite put my finger on it...

Thanks in advance!

So it is!

They were unusual but not impossible to see over there. As thanks, here's a really nasty coupe a friend spotted about 25 years ago.

Daihatsu Fellow Max, although they made a ton of different variations and bodies of them so finding the right version is a bit of a pain.

At my old work in Hull the joinery and general building repairs was done by a local firm who had a Pony pick up in pale blue (similar colour to an Anglia). It was epically reliable but I think rot finally got it.

What I'm trying to say is that they sold these in the UK.

Last time I saw a Pony pick-up it was being bangered at Belle Vue in Manchester, probably over 20 years ago now - and in with much bigger cars as well.  Brave (or stupid) fella!

It's a British car - George Turnbull ex-BLMC led the project with five other key British car engineers, Kenneth Barnett body design, engineers John Simpson and Edward Chapman, John Crosthwaite ex-BRM as chassis engineer and Peter Slater as chief development engineer.

Body is Italian by Giorgio Giugiaro.

Yes, I've thought about the Fairlane and it's similar, but the grill isn't.

I hadn't thought of that because it looked to me like a black metal part in the middle of the grill, but you may be right that it's just the driver's shadow.

I'm an idiot.

Yep.  1964 Fairlane, to be precise.
