Thanks, it reminded me of a Lada but the picture is too old for that and I had completely forgotten about the Fiat today.

I wasn't aware they did a 125 estate but apparently so. Different shape tailgate though, the one in the pic is 124 shape.

There's been a couple of old pictures in other threads from various parts of the EU that have featured TKs - Bedford seem to have had a bit of an export market at some point.

They must have had. But from what I have gathered, the trucks were not exactly flawless, they probably had the same reputation then as Iveco has now.

I drove TK/TLs from 1990s to around 2010 and they were very basic/simple bits of engineering. Most of the technology was 1950s era. Brakes were poor, if you forgot to keep the  kingpins greased they'd wear out and they were dreadfully slow and noisy.
Chassis made from railway lines but cabwork out of old baked bean tins. Company failed to move with the times really.

Episode 1

(Man interviewed in crumbling old building, sat on uncomfortable chair)

"I built a 309 estate":

But then an image started circulating on dull car forums frequented by middle-aged men and all hell broke loose:

SKIP INTRO (overlaid images of tape recorders spooling round and images of a Peugeot 309)

Cut to: drone shot of roads. A ringtone is heard:

"Yeah, I'd like to report my displeasure at what some bloke's done to a Peugeot. It's not on"

Cut to: Uncomfortable chair interview man says some dialogue which totally isn't several takes in and is purposely a bit misleading/could be taken 2 ways.

"I mean, I don't know what all the fuss was about. My car, my rules. Those blokes on forums do my head in".

45 minutes of needless speculation later:

A reveal:

THERE WERE TWO FLIPPING 309 ESTATES!

And a logical explanation:

THE END.

Actually, my Netflix doco comparison falls a little short here, as in this instance, the outcome is solved. And it's at least 2 episodes too short.

Reminds me of the Renault 25 estate someone (Heuliez maybe?) made where the entire estate conversion was the bootlid. Google "Renault 25 estate" and it time warps you back to these very pages.

I know the guys behind the 309 estates - yes they are banger racers, but they are what banger racers should be in my eyes.  They race purely for a bit of fun, always racing silly cars whenever possible and doing their best to entertain, and only racing really rusty old rubbish that is way too far gone for the road.  Their build diaries of some of them are brilliant too.

Sadly that's pretty much the British truck industry in a nutshell.

Also throw in a helping of a 'take it or leave it" attitude especially in the late 60s early 1970's & you can see why it all went wrong.

So sad.
