Details. Downtime was less than forecast, main thing is we're back online. Massive thanks to the back room boys for generous gift of time and skills. Much appreciated.

No thanks please, I'm British.

In all seriousness, if anyone wants to say thanks do any of these things please:

  • Post more car content. Its why we are here for and what ultimately glues everyone together (despite very differing views).
  • If able to without any financial hardship, feel free to send a bit of money here so we keep paying the hosting provider and can continue running the site:

I don't want any personal thanks (I'm weird) as I'm just doing a job that needs doing, just more car content will do please!
I'm happy to keep doing this in the background if people still want to post car content on here. Next updates from now on hopefully should be quicker and less noticable.

Not sure I follow. Was there an option previously to lock a thread? I thought that was an admin option only.

I believe delete has always been there to the OP.

Expand

Correct on both points.  A user cannot lock a thread, only an Admin/mod.

i thought if you originated a thread you could do that?

maybe not?

i dont try and lock stuff much :D

(im not potty mouth like @beko1987:D )

Okay just reverted my personal test install and checked the settings. Looks like the update reverted the font out of a couple that could be chosen.

image.png

Lato is the font that was previously used. Inter is the font used on the default theme.

I've just changed it back to Lato. It still _may_ not exactly the same due to the font upgrade may change the rendering a tad, but it should be near enough identical unless you're a font aficionado.

The autistic side of Autoshite (which is probably 80% of the users) thanks you.

Bit of an odd one... Not sure if it is a synching issue or what, but some threads that I've posted in aren't showing the star to show that I've posted in them. Searching for the posts shows that they're still there.

Lame. Works fine for me but I'm still admin. Tried flushing cache and another browser?

Does web developer mode show anything untoward, especially missing resources?

The seemingly random feature where the editor will decide to just delete large chunks of what you'd just been writing is apparently still alive and well.  It's been a while, but it just happened to me again.

It's annoying on a desktop but you can usually retrieve most things by using undo there...when you're on an Android phone it's bloody maddening as once the text is gone, it's gone.

Point of fact: I really, really hate this editor.  Have done ever since it appeared.  PhpBB still feels orders of magnitude easier to use...but then again I am probably consdered a total luddite these days!

Can the mods attend to a new user registration issue please? A friend has wanted access for some time and had tried several times to register. Most recently, he tried to sign up with the email address oliver at inavision dot co

The site responds with 'this email address is already in use'

Great! Thinks he, i have successfully registered on one of the previous attempts. And because he gets the option to reset the password on this login, he chooses to.

He gets the email to reset the password, resets the password and straight away gets the following displayed:

Reset password  and this came up right away

IMG-20230820-WA0003.thumb.jpg.a4b3c3e4adc44a195e066873c3beeefb.jpg

Which considering he's never got to the point of posting anything seems a bit unfair.

Can you look into this please, mods?

Thanks!

@chodweaver: should be sorted now - ask him to log in again.

Since Thursday, after around the time the downtime finished, I've not been able to view the site on my mobile internet, I can only view it on wi-fi.

I'm with 3, and now with their mobile contracts, safesearch is locked on, which has been the case with this phone. Thinking that the site's name might have suddenly triggered the safesearch filter, I went down the 3 shop, and arranged for safesearch to be turned off. It's off now, but I still can't access the site, only on wi-fi.

I'm a complete doofus when it comes to tech, so anyone have any ideas guys?

Cheers.

As seen on my front page just now.

I posted in the ebay thread, not that one! Something's gone a bit fucky.

Was it the reporting on the home page that was wrong or it ended up in the wrong thread? It looks okay at the moment but it's now an hour later.

Further to this, I started being able to get on the site yesterday but today, it's back to only being able to get on via wi-fi.

This is the message I now get,

Screenshot_20230822_222443.thumb.jpg.6cebb16bc926fc69c42930b1185724c1.jpg

Previously, it was the "took too long to respond" message.

Also, after every time I fail to get on using 3, when I go on via wi-fi, I have to sign back in every time.

Any ideas please guys, before I have to traipse into town back to the phone shop?

Only suggestion I can make would be to clear the cache, maybe it’s remembering the site when it was down on your mobile data. But I’m no technowizard. Seems odd to me.

We seem to have an issue with an expired certificate today.

Might be all sorted now, but this is what I was getting between midnight and 8.30-ish.

Yeah somethink went wrong with the auto-renewal.

I've made a sticky post at the top but I'll do a write up later on the server infrastructure thread.

This has been on my radar to reply, but I haven't had a chance the last week to reply properly.

Could you see if you can access this:

https://autoshite.com/can_you_see_us.txt

If you can, then its probably on our side. If not, then for whatever reason 3 isn't allowing traffic to route to autoshite and not a whole lot I can do.

Is there anyone else using 3 and having issues or does it work?

I genuinely can’t believe you have a PAYG phone, although I guess you can use WiFi for the 3 million MOT checks a day you do? 🤪

when your housebound due to disability, paying a rolling contract for data one would never use, seems a bit of a waste no?

Do you use that little credit that a £10 sim only isn’t cost affective? Im only curious - wasn’t slating, it’s just rare to see these days!

£5 or £2.50 at the moment for Lebara with 1GB a month, rolling contract.

given I can go literally months without ever using the cellular modem part of my phone, when I do need to use it I top it up with credit and away I go until next time :)

Tried 1p mobile? 1p per min of calls and 1p per text though...

We had mum on it for a while as she got phone savvy in her 50s and bar having to chuck £20 on it 3 times a year it was grand.

Until she outgrew it and it became more cost effective to put a £6/month sim in it, even though she uses piss all data too.
