57k on the clock.

£3k price tag. Looks a flipping barg for the money. 205 watchers currently, so others clearly agree.

Ah shit, fella. Can't you persuade the seller that you're clearly the best future owner for the car?!

Tell him you're ready to wire the deposit.  I think in these scenarios (great cars, great price) it's cough up the deposit - then go look.  Even if it wasn't as good as you hoped, you'd always get out of it without a crippling financial loss.

Better luck next time bud.

Cheers. I bet an 'M' reg Mk2 is a rare one, iirc there were a few Mk1 (or Mk1.5, or whatever they were called) about. Hoping the prices settle down, at some point I'd like to try and have a Mk2 Capri again and a Mk4 Cortina.

Yes I think only a handful survived similar for K reg MK1 Granada.

Apart from escorts the less popular stuff that's advertised at silly prices doesn't sell at best it just changes hands between dealers.

All the cortina crayford s,mk3's bakkies Mk5 XR 6's  etc hold no nostalgic memories to 99% of UK enthusiast 's so are stuck in limbo, then you've MK3 GT 's that are sort after but most people are happy to just fit the grille while dealers are trying to ramp up the prices on.

There's going to be another early 90's crash on classic car prices/values with mainly the enthusiast suffering.

Can't recall a Mk2 'XL' before, always thought that they went to 'GL' after the Mk1.

GL replaced XL sometime between March and October 1975.

did the UK have unleaded then??????

Expand

No. I remember using a Supra Turbo fleet demo in 1989 it arrived with a can of petrol , just in case it ran out because unleaded was so rare and it would kill it if you put normal  petrol in! Presumably it had a Cat, if so it must have been one of the first on theUK market. The first place I remember having unleaded was  near the top of Baker St, the place that’s a 24hr Drive-in florist these days.

I think Toyota started putting cats on cars for the 1989 model year.  Celica and Supra were the first to get them if memory serves.  I seem to recall the advert strap line was something along the lines of "Yes it might not always be convenient to fill up with unleaded petrol, but aren't our children worth going out of the way for?"
