Must be one of those "depends on the tester" things I suppose.  It's fairly obvious what a flashing red light on one side of the car means after all.  (Unless you're cadence braking and have a brake light out obvs.)

About £250 would be right. Surely the nadir of Daimler prices / Chrysler build quality*, the W210 is like a rusty hand-grenade just waiting to crumble in your hand shortly before you lob it.

I was looking on carandclassic last night.  I think they should change their website address to be www.lolhowmuch.co. They should be trying to encourage their users to price sensibly as I've pretty much stopped going in it now as all the prices bonkers and not reflective of what things really sell for.

Although both of the bargainous ADO16s recently purchased by shiters have come from C&C, so there must still be some genuine sellers on there.

My dream daily and forever car &  looks fairly reasonably priced.

Sometimes I get SUCH a strong urge to get a massive bank loan and live in poverty happily ever after.

indeed i agree 100% with that! (and with what @The Mighty Quinn etc said)

as mentioned it would be very good to have some sort of "registration number is non transferable on historic grounds" or something such :)

(I like the idea about it being something you can apply for and I would not just limit it to just pre 63, although thats where a lot of it happens, but It would be good to have the option to apply for later vehicles, as I have seen a few vehicles suffix vehicles etc get robbed of their plates as well sadly)

as a side note, this is still on its orignal plate VOX 510 looks like as I thought the seller was not able to rob it of its number plate :)

It always slightly niggled me that the plate which was original to my Impreza Catalunya from a few years back was robbed from it quite early on.

It was originally R32 EVL, which currently resides on a R32 Golf, funnily enough.

Your own sleuthing confirmed the car is still around and now wearing R3 ARU. I still prefer the original!

not sure how it is for other enthusiasts, perhaps its my Routemaster upbringing combined with rigorous DVLA research etc

but age related plates (especially ageless plates so pre 1963) stick out like a sore thumb and it always makes me sad when I see one on a historic vehicle

especially so when it happens to a fleet vehicle where the number plate has greater significance to the vehicle then it would in a private Motorcar

and the robbing of number plates, can royally mess up someones research into a vehicle or vehicle type etc (this one I know from personal experience!)

and in the end it just seems like a massive shame, when a car has had its same number plate for say 50 years it seems a shame to part the 2 just for the sake of a quick buck...

and that story would not work, all age related plates are from registration series that were never issued, if the car was actually from such a remote location it would probably still have an AB1234 style number plate :) a number of locations never actually ran out of their original 1903 style numbers until forced onto suffix plates in 1965!

this is coincidentally where some AAxxxx age related plates for pre 1930 vehicles come from today for those wondering

I think we can safely say you would definitely be in the 2% ( maybe 0.02%) of numberplate savvy enthusiasts, I mentioned.

I bet R32 EVL went for decent money to whoever has the golf though, i don't have an issue with original plates getting taken off cars.

I couldn't agree more, Mr SK10ODA.  ;)

Touché!

It’s still on retention though, in spite of the fact that I bought another Skoda two years ago next month — which shows you how much I can be arsed with such things.

Indeed.

Twenty five grand for a garden variety P6 with no MOT, anyone?

Most likely.

That's great that you don't have an issue with original plates being removed from cars. Obviously it's the polar opposite of my own opinion. Thanks for that though.

Big portion of their sellers are flippers anyway.

There is some nuggets of gold in their but it's surrounded by so much over priced shite it makes it frustrating to use.

I think carandclassic would be in a a great position to turn themselves into the UK's bringatrailer and host curated auctions rather than just listing gallons of over priced shit.

I know Chris Harris is trying to do this with his collectingcars website but they don;t have the traffic carandclassic does.

Yes, I sold an Audi 100 and BMW 520 on there in the last couple of years for a nice profit each time.

Theyve both reappeared for even more since- in fact the Audi is on there at  the moment!

For C&C filter on £1000-£2500, or <£1000 but also with the For Sale filter on.  Otherwise you get loads of the 'hire a Ferrari' shite or parts for sale ads.

Oh look! A dismal Fiat Tipo Diesel with MOT for £300.

I'd suggest it for @bramz7 but he's probably alreday owned it.
