The very sight of a W126 depresses me. There is just something about them that I really dislike. The Hewn From Granite W124 isn't far behind.

Don't even get me started on that W124 bollocks.

What an overhyped pile of pure, unadulterated shit, usually rotten to the core, because they didn't even want to match Lada quality in those days.

A friend of mine had a taxi company in Berlin back then. I'm talking 50+ cars at any given time and he was the spokesman of the Berliner Kraftdroschken Innung. Mind you, if you didn't provide Mercedes Diesel automatics, you didn't get any drivers (guess how I know. I tried it with Olds Delta 88 Diesels, people will never learn). Hence he got red carpet treatment by Mercedes and they always invited him to their 'preferred customers' venues.

After receiving yet another batch of W124s that didn't survive the first two weeks in service, some of them having been delivered without rear door locks (how's this for quality control?), at one of those Mercedes self vaunting parties, he stood up in front of the assembled clientele and asked the Mercedes brass when they are intending to catch up with the quality standards of Fiat.

I really need to try a 406 sooner rather than later. Such a handsome thing.

Has this tasty looking early 406 saloon been posted here yet?

Shite-worthy features include a 2.1 XUD, a beige velour interior with wood* and pathetically low mileage, all for just over £500.

Slight insurance hike but I could buy that. Someone tell me it's a bad idea...?

Is it only me who couldn't bear the sight of such a disgustingly gopping heap disfiguring his front garden?

Okay, the sight of a 306 would be even more aesthetically disturbing, but still.

I like it. Edit- i’d like it more if it were Petrol.

Currently at 2 grand with no reserve.

I have been quoted around Euro 15,000 for bodywork only

I recon a few folk on here could get that down to 200 quid with a large sheet of zintec and some Ford Sierra sills.

Shit. Going to view in just over an hour.

Damn, that 406 looks proper fit. An ex girlfriends parents had one identical to that back in the late 90’s, rode and drove really nicely as I recall. It was nearly new mind

Buy it

Think it's a DIY chop effort

Possibly, looks well done if it has been. I`ll try & wrangle more pics from him.

I seem to remember "hi-cube" tilt-covered Fiorino pick ups being theoretically available but can't remember seeing one.   The rear cab panel visible in the Ebay shot doesn't tally with the twin window design I associate with these, though.

The amount I've quoted myself today....

Delayed viewing until tomorrow evening. I hope this will be a comfy thing to take to Scotland and back....
