that sunny coooop, i'm surprised that there are 7 on the road and another 14 on sorn.

 

they seemed to be a really common car once apon a time, just like a metro or rover 213.

 

a cannot believe that there are as few of theme left as that. :-(

This Rover 800 diesel looks class, but it's about £1500 overpriced.

 

 

There is a crack In the Sump pan and it is leaking oil, but I will have this fixed if some one wants before any exchange of money as long as they definitely want to buy her! The ABS light comes on and off since I changed over the CV Joints, It’s the NS and I think it’s the sensor, again I will have this sorted. 

There is also a wheel bearing going but I have one ready to replace and again I can sort this out. 

She does have a few stone chips and scratches which are touched up but is generally very tidy. 

The dash is lifting but I haven't been too fussed about fixing it.

Brightwells next auction, guide price £5500 to £7500.

I don't like the idea of auctions at all, and this sort of carry on only makes me more nervous.

 

If this '130 was "properly" for sale as nearby as the auction house is and within that guide price range then I would be seriously kicking it's tyres 'cos it is just gorgeous. How could it be improved?

its a good looking motor but as suggested by the OP its also well over priced for what it is.

 

and i LOVE rover 800's.

 

almost as much as that Fiat 130 Coupe.

 

i've only seen one of them in the metal once, and believe me, they are even more beautiful than they look in a picture.

I saw one the other year at Brooklands auto Italia. Fantastic looking car in deep blue with bright blue velour interior. I love the styling straight from the get a ruler school.

Could be a few more and the DVLA have 'em classified wrong. So long since I've seen one though.

yes it looks dreadful, but it wouldn't get kicked off of my drive....

 

 

They do look about as sporty as watching darts on tv, but I do have a soft spot for the ZX ones. I believe Car magazine listed the main positive as it had large rear speakers.

Now I've got a job that requires me to have a sensible, modern car, I am at a loss as to how I'm going to fulfill the part of me that likes risk-taking with my cars.

Which is why I'm now gently caressing the idea of doing just a wee bit of saving, and then seeing if I can basically buy, tax and insure a car for under £500.

 

I've yet to investigate directly with my insurance company whether they would either laugh me off the phone or decide that they were happier with me insuring two vehicles and give me super-discounts. Preliminary research seems to suggest that I've hit a plateau - no matter what I whack through the Meerkats the lowest I've had is £260 fully comp 2,000 miles PA car on road outside house no commuting blahblahblah (a 1.6 Toyota Carina). Given how insurance companies work, I've literally no idea what they would say.

 

This thread in particular is helpful as it shows that the purchasing of a vehicle for well under that is incredibly achievable.

 

I really need to learn how to open the bonnet of the car and not go white at the idea of doing proper mechanical things to it. I'm one from the generation that probably have older Shiters tearing their hair out, in that I would probably call the AA to change a fucked tyre rather than risk doing it by the side of the road myself. I need to address this, and having an older simpler car would encourage me to tinker without fretting about hurting the only car I've got.

 

Ideally I'd like an older boxy estate vehicle, which I can use to collect bulky items, lug stuff about for people with, and do tip runs in, so it's put to good use amongst my family/friends circle and I continue to enjoy the S60's refinement and power and not resent the fact it isn't very practical in the boot or for rear passengers.

 

So far any older Volvo is looking promising, as is the wonderfully bland offerings from Toyota (Avensis, or preferably Carina). I'm watching this thread very keenly indeed. And the raffles. Car would need to have at least 3 months MOT, have no major mechanical issues (I'd rather start by addressing cosmetics).

 

MrsYoof has already cautiously said it sounds like a fun thing to do (for me)...her biggest concern is where it would be parked (on the road, in front of the house). I might put a sticker on it that says "This is a pile of shite, don't worry if you ding it". :D

Trying to do it for £500 is tough unless you already have, say 10 years NCD on a 2nd car.

 

pre-2001 mid sized saloon under 1549cc (£85 cheaper on the tax)?

So I've been having a bit of a bid on this.

My main issue is it's 120 miles away, with no MOT and hasn't seen a road for 2+ years.

Anyone in the Bristol area know of somewhere I can bung it for an MOT and establish what it might need? +- store +- can repair it.

 

It fulfills many of my current want criteria for a WBOD/ work hack.
