Using a 1995 Escort diesel for a cop car was a stroke of genius. You'd rather confess to every murder in Britain and several on the continent than spend 5 minutes inside one of those horrible piles of shit.

I had a Mk5 cabriolet with the rs2000 engine in it on either a j or k plate.

Had to be honest it was a lot nicer than the MK4 it replaced with PAS, all the electric bits etc but still didn't feel that ford had put much effort into it.

I think the Astra f was a better car in all honesty.

In spring and summer 2010 I was smoking around in this 1994 Escort Diesel L which was a former Essex Constabulary car. Best £250 I ever spent.

Is that beige denim seat fabric? Unbelievably cool.

Anyway back at Citroen R&D, 1973:

"Where shall we put the heater controls?"

"By the driver's arse"

"What about in the centre console?"

"No, we've already put an empty box there"

Oh Man!, you have no idea how tempting that is for me, :)  not just the number plate, but the very first car I can claim to have properly, driven, and the car I learnt clutch control in, so the one issue I *never* had when I started driving lessons was clutch control :) was with @Zelandeth and his Red Lada Riva estate,

https://autoshite.com/topic/32723-lightbulbfuns-invacar-general-ramble-thread-index-on-page-1-survivors-lists-on-pages-24134-adgecutlers-invacar-mk12-restoration-from-page-186-onwards-still-harping-on/page/53/

and I have always been saddened that we never got a chance to take it out on the road proper/outside of the car park, and I have always viewed that as unfinished business, especially now that I do have a full driving licence and all that, I am especially curious to know what a Lada is like to drive, beyond the car park!

so this has major appeal! (I would also like to buy it so I could bin off those wheel trims!)

Very overpriced, but possibly ample space for wiggle room? Seems top spec, donor for PAS and the like @grogee ?

I cannae see it, it's behind the FB wall.

I think I have learned that 2.0 EFi (and diesel?) uses a different PAS setup to 1.3/1.6 cars, something to do with the shape of the VW box versus the Honda box.

It's a car from the future right? They put that little box there for your phone.

Wasn't there another Citroen that had the radio (mounted vertically) where those heater controls are? I have a vague childhood memory of getting a lift in one in the 80s - I thought it was a CX but maybe it was a GS. It was batshit compared to my dad's Datsun anyway.

Yep, GS & GSA plus CX Mk2 had radio by your left arse cheek. It's a shame they'd not invented steering column stalk controls for remote radio control at that point.

My only childhood memory of such Citroens is getting a lift in a mate's dad's GS and the dad flapping about it overheating while we were idling and stopped. Which I don't really understand because it was air cooled...?

That would be a very useful source of spares including the PAS as you say. However it requires a) transporting and b) a house with enough space to take it to pieces. Neither of which I have at the moment. Annoying.
